Monday, August 21, 1922 SEBASTIAN BROS. STORE ENLARGED Anticipating a bigger, better business the coming winter, Sebastian Bos., were obliged to enlarge and thoroughly change the interior of their store on W. Center-st. The men's wear department has been moved to the front, in the new shelves added for the purpose. This gave room for the enlarged women's wear department, which now occupies the original quarters and the other side of the store also. Sebastain Bros. will add considerably to their stock of children's and women's coats, and a fine line of silk dresses will be added. The wash garments will also be increased in quantity. The bedding line is much increased, new tables being installed for a better showing. In all, the store is getting into arrangement for handling a big season's trade at greatest convenience. Cal. lawyer, backed by the official vote of the Los Angeles-co-bar Ass'n, Judge Victor E. Shaw, candidate for re-election to the district court of appeal, will receive a tremendous vote at the primary election, according to his friends. From every county leading lawyers are actively campaigning for Judge Shaw, declaring that because of his experience he is able to accomplish, on the bench, twice the work that the ordinary jurist can do in any given time. His friends point to the manner in which cases are handled in his court as a model for all appellate courts. As an appellate court official, Judge Shaw has served for the past sixteen years in reviewing trials, both civil and criminal, of superior judges. A district court of appeal judge must qualify to review, with his single talents, cases which superior judges try with the said of juries, and it is Judge Shaw's proven talent in this work that his friends are emphasizing now. STEWART SELLS THE FARMS AND GROVES 236 West Center St. OVER $5000 YEAR Clear profit is being made from a business proposition in Anaheim that can be bought for $8,000 complete. Owner retiring and going abroad; This is an extraordinary "GOOD BUSINESS" and never before offered, no information by phone, call in person before Wednesday, Aug. 23rd. ARTHUR E. STEWART 236 West Center St. YOU HAVE MADE A PROFIT" The minute you close a deal for ner in which cases are handled in his court as a model for all appellate courts. They point out that his experience, through these years, his maturity of judgment developed thereby, are of incomparable value, and that to replace them for inexperience and the immaturity of youth would be a grave loss to the courts. The Shaw Independent campaign committee is pointing out that the state supreme court opinion on medical practice was originally written by Judge Shaw on the appellate bench in 1916, and that the supreme court adopted it without a change. This decision, involving the right of medical doctors, chiropractors and Christian Science practitioners, included the following opinions: "The objection that those who profess to treat bodily affliction by prayer are not required to be proficient in diagnosis, and that their exemption, under the law, is the extension of a favor to them which is withheld from others, is met by the obvious answer that diagnosis is no part of such treatment. Those who believe that Divine power may be invoker by prayer for the healing of body believe also that God is all powerful. Patients receiving their ministrations know this and therefore no fraud or injury may be practiced upon such persons by reason of any lack of skill by the healers in determining the nature of diseases to be treated. But, a sufferer from a fever who summons a licensed physician holding himself out to the public as one qualified to treat the sick, is entitled to the services of a doctor who has been taught to discriminate between typhoid and smallpox. In other words, the right to practice medicine should carry with it some assurance to the public that the licensed practitioner possesses reasonable proficiency in the technique of his profession."
