YORBA-LINDA, Aug. 18. (Spl.)—Clarence Kennon, who is employed at the Huntington Beach oil fields had the misfortune to run a hail through his foot while at work. The injury is painful, no serious results are anticipated.
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Seamans was a pretty setting for a large number of friends of Miss Marie Vernon, who gathered there for the purpose of giving her an aluminum shower. A short program was rendered, after which Miss Vernon was presented with a complete set of five aluminum pieces for the culinary department of the new home. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. R. Shook then served dainty refreshments. About 50 were present. Miss Vernon will wed Mr. Warrick Murray on the 30th day of this month.
Mr. and Mrs. Ward Holland and two children of Santa Monica arrived Wednesday to take charge of the "Rock Bottom Store." Mr. Holland succeeds Mr. Tyler, who with Mrs. Tyler are moving to Santa Ana where they have purchased a store. Mr. and Mrs. Holland are well known here, having resided here a number of years. They moved to Santa Monica four years ago. Mrs. Holland is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. S. Bernis and both have a large circle of friends who are glad to welcome them.
Mrs. Carl Seamons, Mr. Ben Moore and son Everett and Mrs. C. O. Burnison spent Monday at Long Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Adam Theis motored to Los Angeles Tuesday afternoon and brought back with them, Mrs. Theis moth who will remain for a several days visit.
Monday evening in Ley hall the O.E.S. entertained the past matrons and past patrons. A very enjoyable meeting was held, four new candidates being taken into the chapter. A social hour was enjoyed at which delicious refreshments of cantaloupe la mode and wafers were served. Several guests from Whittier, La Habra and ols Angeles were present.

CYPRESS, Aug. 18. (Spl.)—There was a slight accident Thursday morning at the intersection of Walker-st and Lincoln-ave, when a machine driven by a Riverside man collided with a Ford driven by Mildred Lucas. The Riverside machine was damaged some. No one was hurt.
Rev. Cart, pastor of the Church of the Nazareine, announces that beginning Aug. 20, there will be revival meetings conducted by Rev. Fred W. Suffield. Services each evening at 7:45.
Mr. and Mrs. R. Morey and son, Deolee, have moved to Long Beach where they intend to make their future home.
The Cypress Garage is installing machinery which will make it one of the most up-to-date garages in this section.
Earl Neely, broncho buster and oil worker, has gone in for mud baths. He was dressed in his Sunday best, and over viewing the progress of the Standard well at Buena Park when he suddenly took a back dive into the sump hole. That was alright but the inhabitants of the country object to mud bathers running home in their B.V.D.s.
Mrs. E. Cutter and son Arthur are back from a two weeks' visit to the Yosemite.

The pretender to the Monacan title proclaims himself to be the eleventh Marquis Grimaldi, as listed in the Genoan peerage. The reigning prince, who succeeded recently upon the death of his father, Albert I, is named Louis Grimaldi, and bases his title upon similar heritage.

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 18. Two more apartment house fires of apparent incendiar origin, which menaced the lives of scores of tenants, resulted in the opening of a drive by police to stamp out the wave of incendiarism believed responsible for the score of fires in the last few weeks.

OLINDA LEASE, Aug. 18. (Spl)—Mr. and Mrs. Bert Longstreet left Saturday for a five weeks' vacation touring the northern part of the state. Mrs. Moode and daughter of Los Angels are staying at the Longstreet home while they are gone.
Mrs. L. L. Lyman and children who have been at Hemet working in the fruit returned to their home Wednesday night.
Mrs. M. R. Scribner entertained her cousin Mrs. Annie Busey of Pasadena last Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Van Patten entertained Mrs. Meca and two daughters of Anaheim, Thursday.
Mrs. Mac Roberts and children have gone back to Hemet to continue working in the fruit.
