FULLERTON DEPT. LA HABRA MAN IS OUT OF SAN QUENTIN Benjamin F. Elliott of La Habra, has just returned home after serving three and one-half years of an indeterminate sentence of from one to 15 years at San Quentin, where he was sent during the World war on the charge of having made unpatriotic assertions against the policy of the government. The arrest followed the alleged killing of Eugene Young, who, it is declared, was killed when he went into Elliott's house with other Liberty bond salesmen, and fought with Elliott after he had refused to buy the bonds. He was freed on the murder charge, because the salesmen were counted intruders, and a man under the law has a legal right to defend his home. Elliott is said to have been wealthy and to have owned about 200 acres of valuable land near La Habra and Fullerton. CITY BRIEFS Dale Bell and Perry Smith have returned from an outing at Big Bear Lake and have resumed their duties at the First National Bank. O. E. Hanson of the First National Bank has resumed his duties after a vacation spent at San Diego and other southern points of interest. Tom Remp of Brea was an Anaheim visitor yesterday. Mr. Remp was injured in the oil fields at Santa Fe Springs July 27th and this is the first time he has been away from his home since the accident. Miss Cecile Atherton is enjoying a vacation from her duties at the First National bank. Miss Verna Mitchell has returned to Anaheim after spending the past two months with friends at El Centro. The many friends of Miss Murle Gossett will be sorry to learn that she is ill at her home. Stretching the spine for a few minutes each day is the latest recipe for prolonged youth. MODERN CRANKCASE CLEANING SERVICE Your engine requires regular cleaning. Dealers who display this sign use Calol Flushing Oil for safety and thoroughness. They refill with Zero-lens of the correct grade. STANDARD OIL COMPANY (California) Wednesday afternoon the Dorcas society of the Temple Baptist church held a well attended meeting in the tabernacle when the meetings date were changed to be on the first and third Friday afternoons of each month. In order that expenses of maintenance for the La Habra free library may be met the committee in charge held a very successful food sale Saturday morning. The library must be supported by the community until November when the year of probation is up and the work is taken over by the county library. The project has been most satisfactory and the circulation far exceeds the number of borrowers proving that the patronage is well above the average, say those interested. Deer hunting was the attraction which took several local men up into Ventura county over the week-end. They enjoyed a fine trip but did not locate any game. Included among the hunters were Grant Sherman, C. E. Lilley, A. H. Johnson, C. M. Glazier, L. J. Wester and Roy Dunbar. James Moffett returned to La Habra this week after an absence of several years and is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Launer and other friends in the valley. Mr. Moffett has been trading in India and South Africa for the past eight years. Mrs. Moffett and their daughter are visiting relatives in England but are coming to the States in a month or so and the family expect to locate here. They resided in La Habra for some years before their venture in the far east and are well known in this vicinity. Under the direction of Mrs. F. S. Kniss, superintendent of that department the missionary department of the community Sunday school gave a program Sunday morning before the school. It was the first of a series of such programs. Miss Katherine Kniss Madeline Barker gave a little play, and scripture lesson was led by Miss Eleanor Schallert. There was special music. To picnic up Santa Ana canyon a number of Los Angeles friends motored out-Sunday taking with them Mrs. M. F. Davis of La Habra. Darnley has signed up that good welterweight from Los Angeles, Mike O'Leary to give battle to Jack Lowery, considered to be just about one of the best of his weight now boxing on the coast. Lowery is a San Francisco boy but at present is calling Anaheim his future home. Jack has been here several weeks working in the Oil Fields nearby and quietly training and keeping himself fit during his spare moments in anticipation of starting in the fore-ground game again. Lowery has a splendid record up in and around the Bay City where he has done most of his ring work. He is reputed to be a hard-hitting fast clever ringman and his style should go big here before local fight bugs. Mike O'Leary, his opponent-to-be, needs no introduction to local fans. Mike is a well known boy around these parts and never has failed to give a good account of himself while in the ring. He and Lowery figure to furnish just about the greatest all around main event that the local club has as yet dished up to local fight bugs in a long time. Joe Chaney will meet that hard-hitting rugged Tacoma lad, Johnny Ray in the semi-windup. Ray is the lad who took our own Paddy Dillons measure at last Friday's show but he had to work to do it for Paddy made him fight every inch of the way. That on the 27th day of July, 1922, the Board of Trustees of the City of Anaheim passed and adopted its resolution of intention No. 162 to order the following decision street work to be done in said city; to-wait: That North Zoyn Street in said city be opened and extended from the northerly line of West North Street to a point three hundred thirty and seventy-five hundredths ($30.75) feet northerly therefrom; also from the north line of West La Palma Avenue to the southerly line of North Angeles Street. SECTION 2. That the land deemed necessary to be taken for said work and improvement is situated within the City of Anaheim, County of Orange, State of California, and is described as follows, to-wait: Beginning at the most easterly corner of Lot 14, Bellair Tract, as shown on a map recorded in Book 12, Page 32 Miscellaneous Maps of Orange County, California; thence southerly parallel to the western line of North Los Angeles Street $30.75 feet to the northerly line of West North Street; thence easterly along said northerly line 53 feet; thence northerly parallel to the westerly line of North Los Angeles Street $30.75 feet; thence westerly parallel to the northerly line of West North Street 53 feet to the place of beginning: Also: Beginning at a point on the southerly line of Lot 1, Babinger Sub, as shown on a map recorded in Book 7, Page 22 Miscellaneous Maps of Orange County, California; said point being 18.69 feet easterly from the south- to local fans. Mike is a well known boy around these parts and never has failed to give a good account of himself while in the ring. He and Lowery figure to furnish just about the greatest all around main event that the local club has as yet dished up to local fight bugs in a long time. Joe Chaney will meet that hard-hitting ruged Tacoma lad, Johnny Ray in the semi-windup. Ray is the lad who took our own Paddy Dillons measure at last Friday's show but he had to work to do it for Paddy made him fight every inch of the way. It was Paddy's first defeat in his last nine starts. Ray and Chaney ought to furnish a whale of a scrap. Joe took the measure of the new Vernon sensation, Joe Layman, at the Covina show last Friday eve after a great fight and he is being figured upon by the Vernon and Hollywood matchmakers for some big league stuff very shortly. Darnley also has the usual good preliminaries being figured upon and a great show is being banked upon for next Fridays weekly card. Baseball Standings PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE W. L. P.c.
