CROSS RIB GOODYEAR CORDS BEST PRODUCT OF CALIFORNIA COMPANY, DEALERS ASSERT
No new line of tires brought out in recent years has met with the instantaneous reception that was accorded to the cross rib tire, recently placed on the market by The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., as a companion line to its famous All-Weather Tread, report Nenno & Bock, James the Vulcanizer and George Dunton, local distributors.
"Every motorist wants the dependability and wear and easy riding qualities of cord tire construction," they declare. "A good cord tire is the last word in tires. A good tire is the best tire that can be built. No factor in this business has been more pronounced than the way that cord tires have come o dominate the quality market within the last few years."
However, a good cord tire of standard reputable make costs a little more than the fabric tires. The Goodyear company recognized the need for a quality cord tire that could be build at a price that would enable the thousands of motorists to whom first cost is important, to still avail themselves of the advantage of correct cord tire construction.
"And so the cross-rib cord was brought out at popular prices and is proving a boon to thousands of car owners.
"The cross-rib cord is a mighty good tire. It is built of the same long staple fabric as is used in the all-weather tread. The patented grouped ply construction is used as on the all-weather tread.
"The tread design in the cross-rib cord is a good second to the all-weather tread in gripping traction qualities."
Because of the maximum tractive or non-skid qualities of the all-weather tread, it is necessary to use more rubber in the tread than is necessary in most tires. The tread of the cross-rib cord, while as good or better in tactivoid qualities than most tires, does not, because of its design, require quite as much rubber as the all-weather tread.
The tread rubber is of a tough, slow-wearing stock that should give excellent mileage. The economies in construction then are the lesser volume of rubber in the tread, the different tread stock, and the fact that the cross-rib cord is of single cure type.
These economies plus the saving due to quality production make up the difference in price and permitted the cross-rib cord to go on the market at popular prices.
As a matter of fact the mileage per dollar, or the final price of the tire will be found to be about the same as the all-weather. That is, while the consumer makes a smaller original investment in buying a cross-rib, he gets as much tire service per dollar as in the case of the all-weather tread-cord.
The two lines of tires simply occupy different price levels, each being a quality tire in its own level.
The Goodyear dealer organization is enthusiastic about the cross-rib cord tire, too, in that it is securing a lot of business that has been going to unknown brands offered in many localities at higher list prices but with long discounts."

Rickenbacker Co. Not To Change Its Prices
DETROIT, Mich., Aug. 5—Persistent rumors that the price of the Rickenbacker six would be increased August 1 were completely disbelied by a statement issued at the conclusion of a meeting of a board of directors of the company.
"The rapid and ready acceptance of the Rickenbacker product by the buying public which induced a larger production of the models than was even anticipated by the company officials was given as the reason for maintaining the price."
"When the car was unveiled to the public and the price announcement made at the National Automobile Show last January, prominent contemporary executives said it was impossible to build the Rickenbacker six at its listed price," said President B. F. Everitt of the company, "but because the public throughout the country has accepted the automobile with such unprecedented confidence it has been possible to greatly increase the production of cars in our factory and thus instead of adding to our price in the face of a raising market for materials it is our good fortune to be able to announce in reality a reduction by maintaining our price."
Capt. E. V. Rickenbacker who designed and built the car which bears his name, said: "It has been rumored ever since we announced the car that the price would have to be increased and we are elated to be able to continue to give the public such marvelous quality at the original price."
3 YEAR VELIE DOES 387 MILES 9 HOURS
From St. Louis to Chicago in nine hours, part of it in a blinding storm, is the record of Louis Landan's three-year-old Velie coupe. The careful record kept on all points of the performance is of especial interest just now.
"We left St. Louis at 7 a.m. and arrived at Chicago at 4 p.m. same day. Part of the run was made in a blinding storm.
"We rode all around Chicago and returned a few days later, leaving Chicago at 7 a.m. and arriving in St. Louis at 5 p.m.
"During the entire trip going and returning the gasoline and oil consumed amounted to $16.50, and I did not spend 5 cents for any kind of repairs or trouble.
"Going to Chicago, the mileage was 387½ and returning 384.
"We used the National Trail, and at many points on a stretch of 50 miles made 65 miles per hour."

Vesta Radio Batteries Last 2-4 Years, Claim
It has been recently estimated that there are upward of 500,000 radio outfits in use and the demand still continues greater than the supply. Considering the requirements of this comparatively new, and rapidly growing field, the Vesta engineering department spent a considerable portion of its time during the past several months perfecting different types of batteries best suited for radio work.
The first and most important consideration in buying a storage battery for radio use is to secure a battery which will retain its charge the longest.
Extra thick plates and separators are provided in Vesta radio batteries which not only enable them to hold their charge for a long period but insures exceptionally long life. These heavy plates give a steady and uniform current, thus preventing the dropping of current output at a critical moment when you are receiving from some distant city.

From two to four years service can be expected from Vesta radio batteries, say West Bros., managers of the local Vesta station, if kept watered as needed and recharged whenever gravity goes below 1200. The condition of your battery is always known to you if you have a hydrometer for taking provity readings. This instrument is inexpensive, and should be secured and used by all radio owners having storage batteries.
Vesta radio batteries will be marketed and serviced mainly thru Vesta service stations, who will be in a position to give advice and attention to such batteries.
West Bros. are Orange-co distributors, with their own stations in Anaheim and representatives throughout the county.
