STRAUSS, President American Society of Thrift "The greatest of faults," says Carlyle, "is to be conscious of none." No man who has made progress in the world has done so without making mistakes. Errors of judgment and faulty decisions are bound to occur. But progress and success come through learning the lessons that our mistakes teach us. Failure on the other hand, comes through the repetition of one's errors. To eliminate mistakes, as the result of the close study of one’s personal problems, is efficiency. It is this quality that distinguishes the thrift man from the man who is thriftless. The latter continues the mistakes of wasting money, time, energies and opportunities. The thrift man learns in the school of experience that these things mean retrocession. While he makes mistakes, he is personally organized along such lines of efficiency that he is not likely to repeat them. His practices of thrift and self-denial have developed will power and character. Therefore his mistakes become sources of strength. Instead of milestones about his neck he makes them stepping stones to greater accomplishments. Do not bemoan your mistakes. If you are a young man or young woman standing today on the threshold of life, do not imagine that you will go through the journey without making mistakes or displaying shortcomings. The question of your success or failure in life will not depend on whether you make errors. For you are sure to do this. It will depend on your ability to take advantage of them, to avoid their repetition and utilize them as necessary lessons in. 6,000 BARRING NEW OIL PRODUCTION By Ellwood New production six thousand barrels to be a habit Every time a new field must be two or better or it does mention Some appearing in the elements depicting the Long Beach field daily average product is close to 75,000 without parallel in California petroleum The Angeles-Missisippi was located well in the midst drilling district and side of the Hill sion was located velopment of the well looked upon with first announced.T completed for the Company by the lwards Drilling Counderson Petroleum 360 per cent interest ducer. Munger New production from three to six thousand barrels a week is getting to be a habit at Long Beach. Every time a new well is brought in the initial production ranges from four to five thousand and then settles down to 1500 and 2000 barrels. A well in the Long Beach field must be two thousand barrels or better or it does not get even a mention. Some high figures are appearing in the promoters' advertisements depicting the wonders of the Long Beach field. However, the daily average production of the field is close to 75,000, a record that is without parallel in the history of California petroleum. The Angeles-Mission Oil Company at 3227 brought in a 1500 barrel well in the midst of the congested drilling district area on the west side of the Hill. The Angeles Mission was located early in the development of the west side and was looked upon with little favor when first announced. This big well was completed for the Angeles-Mission Company by the Rodgers and Edwards Drilling Company. The Henderson Petroleum Syndicate holds a 60 per cent interest in the new producer. Joseph R. Dabney has the making of easily a 1000 barrel well at No. 10. Completed at 3200 feet, the well started off nicely and then the water developed. Dabney has shut down temporarily at No. 10 and will await some water shutoff experiments on a nearby well before taking any action. Dabney has started work on the Wildermere tract near the Petroleum Midway's Fields No. 1 and will be drilling in a few days. A. T. Jergens stepped into the petroleum lime light by showing the existence of a 2500 or 3000 barrel well on the City's Reservoir Hill. The Jergens well come in "bare-footed" under 3000 feet and made a flow that fully justifies the prediction that the Reservoir Hill property is one of the best pieces of oil property in Southern California. TO FLOP ABOUT IN FOR-TRIMMED RUBBER BOOTS SEARCH FOR LETTER OF MURDER PLAN SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 4. — Search was under way today for a "confession" letter reported by police to have been written to Captain of Detectives Mathewson by Walter Castor some time prior to his killing Detective Timothy J. Bailey, Mrs. Robert Castor and himself yesterday when trapped by police at the home of his mother in Kansas street. According to disclosures to police of Robert Castor, a brother, the letter contained a full account of Walter Castor's part in the slaying of Mrs. Henry Wilkens. Through the death of Castor the police already have secured valuable light on the murder of Mrs. Wilkens, for which Henry Wilkens, her husband, must stand trial. MANY ITALIANS KILLED IN BATTLE ROME, Aug. 4—Fighting in which many persons were killed and wounded broke out today in various northern cities between Fascisti and Socialists. Gabriel d'Annunzio, poet playwright and warrior, who seized and held Flume in defiance of Italy and Jugo-Slavia, joined the Fascisti at Milan. The Fascisti at Milan forced the mayor to resign. Four persons were killed in fighting at Ancona. to 3000 feet and will be in the oil sand in a few days. Operators voiced considerable disapproval to the foot idea in that comes pretty close to taking the other man's oil. The Shell Company's completions for the week net 3000 barrels of new production. Lynch No. 1 finished at 3396, went on at 1400 barrels. Pickler No. 2 finished at the same depth, started off at 1600 barrels. The Shell Company is starting new wells on the Cresson and Jones leases. Indications point to the Oceanic bringing in a big well at No. 2. This well for some time has been the northern wildcat well. A nice body of sand was struck at 3156 and all the uncertainty has been removed. The United Oil Company has added another 1500 barrel well to the field by finishing Denni No. 4 at 3353. This well gives the United Oil Company an aggregate production a little larger than any other one of the smaller companies in the field. The success of the United Oil Co. on Signal Hill has been nothing short of phenomenal. Huntington Beach is taking a special place among the oil producing fields of Southern California. This field, now two years old, is not bringing in any gushers, but is developing 1000 barrel wells in the deep sands that will undoubtedly outlive the spectacular gushers that have come in in the upper zones. The Amalgamated Oil Company has just completed a well on the Pearce property at 4076 feet. The result was a 900 barrel producer, yielding 25 gravity oil. Marchis Bros. redrilled and put Reliance No. 1 down to 3977 and got a 700 barrel well, making 24 gravity oil. Last week the Petroleum Midway brought in two big wells that clearly proves the success of deep drilling. Ellott No. 1 at 3430 came in better than 1000 barrels. Volmer-Meyer No. 2 completed at 4114 is making 600 In the Heart of Anaheim's Business District In the Heart of Anaheim’s Business District Market Private Telephones Market DAILY Anaheim, Cal.
