MANY CHARACTERS LEND GIRL'S PARTY MYSTERIOUS AIR
HAVING reached the dignified age of eight years, Miss Ethel Polomaries of S. Kroeger street, invited in a dozen of her friends to help celebrate the occasion. Games were played and some of the more talented young folks entertained the others. Miss Helen Maxwell very cleverly contributed three dances, the Japanese, fan and Spanish. Miss Lorena Murphy also entertained with a dance. Miss Grace Spielman as a bride, was on the program. The guests came in costumes and much pleasure was enjoyed guessing the identity of other characters.
Miss Ethel invited her guests in the house where a delicious luncheon was served, the piece de resistance being the large birthday cake.
Guests at the happy affair included the Misses Lorena Murphy, Helen Maxwell, Camille Hall, Grace Spielman, Marion Miller, Esther Miller, Hazel Filer, Marion Flier, Marjorie Spielman, Hetty Rinderhagen and Mr. Willis Hasson, and hostess, Miss Polomaries. A number of the neighborhood women were guests of Mrs. Polomaries.
The girls came in the costumes of clown, kypsy, Japanese, bride, fairy and butterflies.

Rector's Family Returned
Rev. and Mrs. G. R. Messias and daughter, Miss Priscilla, returned yesterday afternoon about three o'clock from their month's vacation passed in the Ojal valley, and although they had a delightful outing, they are glad to again be at home.
The Messias family greatly enjoyed meeting their former friends in Ventura where Rey. Messias was rector of the Episcopal church for four years, leaving there about six years ago. A day was spent at Matilja Hot Springs and Wheeler Hot Springs and other places of interest were included in the frequent side trips.
Leaving at 8 o'clock yesterday morning, the journey home was made through Santa Suzanne Pass. Rev. Messias will occupy his pulpit in St. Michael's next Sunday morning.

Nurse to Take Vacation
Miss Margaret Kuehl is planning to take a vacation beginning the first of September. Miss Kuehl's activities as community nurse keep her continually on the move, and her responsibilities are second only to those of the parents and physicians, and in many cases physicians only. The monthly reports submitted to the Public Welfare Committee at each meeting shows an average of 250 consultations of one kind or another each month, more than half of them requiring a personal visit to the home or the school.
Miss Alma Karlsson, former community nurse of Fullerton, is also planning a vacation, leaving that city today. She will return at the opening of school, as her new duties will be among the school children, although she stands ready to assist the community at her every convenience. Miss Karlsson's successor has not been appointed.
Final Calls For Picnics

Look to Armistice Day
Already plans for observing Armistice Day are being discussed, although the date is three months distant. But it required more than three years to get ready for the day during the world war, and compared to that, the time is not long.
Fullerton Auxiliary is arranging for a really formal observation of the day, in that they will be in uniform and are now deciding what style and color can be best used. Mrs. Belle Benchley is chairman of the committee. Just what part in the Legion's celebration will be given to the Auxiliary is not decided but they stand ready to do whatever is needed, just as they did in the terrible days agone.
Discuss Operetta Costumes
The Boys' Glee Club will meet Friday at 2 p.m., at the home of Mrs. C. A. McCullah.
