VALENCIA SHORTAGE PREDICTED BY BANK
Prices for oranges in eastern markets continue strong, the best grades of valencias now bringing from $12 to $13 per box as compared with $11 to $12 a month ago. The average price for all classes valencias, irrespective of quality, is now approximately $7.50 per box as compared with $6.50 to $7 at the time of the last monthly report. There is every indication that before the opening of the navel season there will be a shortage of California oranges, in spite of attempts to spread the remaining crop over the latter part of the season, says the bulletin of a prominent Los Angeles bank.
Total orange shipments from this territory since November 1, 1921, have amounted to approximately 25,000 car loads as compared with 29,000 car loads to this date last year. Because of the high temperatures in naval districts in the latter part of June, which have caused a rather severe drop, and the spotted bloom following last winter's frost, it is now estimated that the condition of the coming navel crop is only about 65 per cent of normal.
Comparatively cool weather in the eastern portion of the country has materially reduced the demand for California lemons. As a result, shipments have been materially under normal and prices have sagged somewhat, best grades now bringing $7.25 a box in eastern markets, with the average price approximately $4.75 a box, as compared with $5 to $5.50 a month ago.
Average weekly shipments during July were approximately 200 car loads as compared with 100 car loads a week during June. Since November there have been approximately 8200 car loads of lemons shipped from the State of California as compared with 9500 car loads to this time a year ago.

HAWAII FEARS LOSS OF BIG ATTRACTION
SAN FRANCISCO, July 31. — Whether they have a dying volcano on their hands is the question which is now worrying residents of Hawaii, according to Dr. L. Friedaelander, noted Italian volcanologist.
So worried were the citizens of the "Paradise of the Pacific" that they employed Dr. Friedaelander as a consulting physician, and asked him to diagnose Kilauea, or "Mime Pele," as they call their pet volcano.
Mike Ree' starteed out last fall in a very active manner. The lava began rising higher and higher, and the lakes of the molten rock became redder and brighter. The lava continued to rise steadily until it was within 100 feet of the top shortly before the first of June, and threatening a spectacular eruption.

Did You Know That—
"Nanook of the North," the big Pathe feature, is the first motion picture (6000 feet in length) photographed wholly in the Arctic Regions?
"Nanook of the North," the Pathe photoplay, is the first motion picture depicting the actual life of the Eskimo—being a truthful and vivid story of Father and Mother Eskimo and all the little Eskimos at home.
The big Pathe feature, "Nanook of the North," was made by Robert J. Flaherty, Engineer and Explorer of Sir William MacKenzie's Expeditions in the Barren Lands of the Far North East Coast of the Hudson Bay—as described by him in the published records of the American Geographical Society.
In "Nanook of the North," the big Pathe feature, the scenes of the picture were located in the vicinity of Cape Rufferih, N. W. Ungava, covering a large expanse of land and frozen sea about two-thirds of the way up the East Coast of Hudson Bay—uninhabited except by a small tribe of Eskimos which exists entirely independent of civilization.
All the activities in the life of the Eskimos—such as fishing and fighting with seals and walrus, building tents in summer and snow igloos in winter, built in an hour at the end of the winter's day of dog-sledge travel—are shown in the Pathe Special, "Nanook of the North," which comes to the California theatre Sunday.
