Miss Mildred Johnson left on Wednesday evening for San Francisco where she will enter training at Lanes hospital. Mr. and Mrs. C A. Porter, Irma Robison and Ernest Kenin accompanied Miss Johnson as far as Los Angeles.
Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Wilsey and Mrs. L. J. Robson attended the funeral of Capt. M. B. Shaw at San Bernardo on Thursday.
A marriage license was issued to Miss Eleta Smith of La Habra and Webb Andrews.
Mrs. A. P. Van Wagoner returned to her home at Sawtelle after visiting a week with her daughter, Mrs. D.B. Brown.
Mrs. Carl Snyder and Miss Irma Robinson visited in Whittier on Tuesday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. William Schumacker and daughter were callers in town on Thursday evening.
Mrs. George Mahr is critically ill at her home on Ninth-st and her recovery is doubtful.

LOS ANGELES, July 29. The Philharmonic auditorium was crowded last night when U. S. Senator Hi-ram Johnson opened his campaign for re-nomination. More than 5,000 could not gain admission, and Senator Johnson made a brief speech outside for their benefit.
The candidate declared himself for the Four-Power pact, because it was in effect; attacked his opponents, again voiced his espousal of the Boulder Canyon project, and referred to California as the best-protected state in the Union if respect to the tariff.
Former Senator Frank P. Flint introduced Senator Johnson.
