Senator Hi-ram Johnson opened his campaign for re-nomination. More than 5,000 could not gain admission, and Senator Johnson made a brief speech outside for their benefit. The candidate declared himself for the Four-Power pact, because it was in effect; attacked his opponents, again voiced his espousal of the Boulder Canyon project, and referred to California as the best-protected state in the Union if respect to the tariff.
