GROOM IN WRECK; WEDDING DELAYED Carroll Gardiner of West Commonwealth was hurt yesterday when his bicycle was struck on Commonwealth-ave by a car driven by P. R. Brandenburg of Anaheim. Mr. Brandenburg was on the way to Riverside with his "best man" intending to get married to "the sweetest little girl in the world," and was speeding up for this purpose. But his hurry caused him to have to postpone the wedding, and take the injured boy to his home. The boy is expected to remain indoors a few days, tho he is said not to have been seriously injured. ATTEND LEGION COUNCIL American Legion members from Fullerton attended the regular meeting of the Orange-co Council of the Legion at Orange last night, where a supper was served. W. A. Moore of the Fullerton Realty Co. is in Long Beach today. Mrs. Robert Russell of Brea underwent an operation at the Fullerton hospital today. Mrs. W. A. Hall of Brea who has been a patient at the Fullerton hospital for some time was taken to her home this afternoon in a Seale ambulance. FIND BODY OF AGED WOMAN IN YARD INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., July 20.—The body of Mrs. Mary B. Toon, 74, who from marks of violence showing on her head, it was evident had been beaten to death, was found today by her son near a shed in the backyard of her home here. The aged woman's home was tightly locked up, and first police who arrived on the scene were unable to find a motive for the brutal murder. State News Briefs BREA NEWS ITEMS BREA, July 20. (Spl.)—Both were born in July 18,—well-it was the same year any how, so Mrs. H. R. Williams and Mrs. Earl Sechrist decided to celebrate the event. The ladies of Brea-Guild had planned a celebration in honor of Mrs. Sechrist their pastor's wife, so they decided to unite with Mrs. Williams and a most enjoyable affair was held at the Williams' home Tuesday evening. Mrs. J. C. Sexton and Mrs Churchill were hostesses. The evening was spent in playing games, etc. under the leadership of Mrs. Ella McGraw. Mr. H. N. High presented Mrs. Sechrist beautiful curtains, with best wishes from Brea Guild. Two beautiful birthday cakes with the proper number of candles were presented to the "honorees." Punch and cake were served by the ladies in charge. The guests were: Mr. and Mrs. H. N. High, J. C. Sexton, E. H. Peterkin, Culp, Wm. Churchill, Jno. Spohn, Pettit and Mesdames Goodwin, Fachleman, L. A. Sayles, Woodruff, Sales, Whitmer, J. G. Rohne, Duling, McIntire, Sarles, McGraw, Woods, Walter Smith, Mitchell and Miss Catherine Mitchell, Marie Woodruff and Rev. Sechrist. All report a most enjoyable evening. Mrs. O. E. Sadler of Los Angeles, formerly May Sellers, spent Tuesday and Wednesday with friends and relatives in Brea. Los Angeles St. Phone 713 TWO KILLED AS TRAINS COLLIDE ALSUMA, Okla., July 20.—Two railroad employees were killed and a number of passengers were injured today in a head-on collision between a Missouri, Kansas & Texas passenger and freight train between here and Tullo on the Osage division of the road. The dead are Edward Morris of Muskogee, engineer of the passenger train; and S. J. Richardson of Tulsa, head brakeman of the freight train. A misunderstanding of train orders was believed to have been responsible for the wreck. BUENA PARK BUENA PARK, July 20. SEEKS REVENGE WASHINGTON, July 20.—Declaring his claim for disability was disregarded by the United States veterans' bureau, Garland E. Carr, colored World War veteran, at Washington, D.C., bored a hole through a wall of the building in which the Washington bureau is housed, stuffed paper into the room and then touched a match to it.
