CASEY THE COP
There Are Guarantees, Guarantees, Says Firm
Have you ever given the matter a thought? Just what does a guarantee as "so-called" by many manufacturers of storage batteries mean to the motorist today? If the battery in your car should "quit" today or tomorrow, what would be necessary for you to do? Naturally, if you bought this battery, and the service station that sold same to you told you that it was guaranteed for a period of time, you would, no doubt, go to this party and tell him your troubles. Practically all batteries are sold on an insurance basis and in case of a battery proving defective, and after inspection the battery dealer should find same to be beyond repair, he would allow you a certain amount for the service you did not receive from your battery, providing you gave it the proper care and attention since the day of purchase. The Vesta battery is not sold in this way but on an absolute guarantee of two years. The purchaser of a Vesta is given a written guarantee of two years' service without any repair expense during this period.

BABY DEATH RATE GREATLY REDUCED
WASHINGTON, July 14: Reduction of more than 14 per cent in the death rate of babies in the United States during 1921 was reported by the American Child Hygiene Association this week in a tabulation covering 537 cities of more than 10,000 population. The rate dropped from 32 per 100 in 1920 to 79 in 1921, which the report said, means that 11,797 lives were saved in the 537 cities, as compared with 1920, or approximately 30,000 for the whole country.
On the whole, the death rate was lowest in the large cities through Berkeley, Cal., and East Orange, N.J., have the lowest rates for 1921—39 and 48, respectively.
