WOMAN'S PAC
CALVARY WOMEN'S UNION PERFECTS ORGANIZATION
THE Women's Union of the Calvary Baptist church met at the German Baptist church yesterday for permanent organization. There were a number of guests present from other towns and among these were Mrs. Sitton of Fullerton, who led the devotional meeting. Mrs. McBride also of Fullerton, rendered a delightful solo.
Mrs. Holmes and Mrs. Catland of the Santa Ana Baptist Union, association president and secretary, told of the work which the Santa Ana Union was doing and volunteered to give instructions for carrying on the work here.
The officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Mrs. T. C. Jones, president; Mrs. H. H. Knox, first vice president; Mrs. David Maltbey, second vice-president; Mrs. Amo Mock, third vice-president; Mrs. H. J. Wilson, fourth vice-president; Mrs. R. W. Coriell, fifth vice-president; Mrs. G. R. Schee, recording secretary; Mrs. J. F. Jenkins, corresponding secretary; Mrs. F. H. Wessler, treasurer; Mrs. T. C. Jordan acted as chairman until the new president was elected.
Mrs. Jones acknowledged her election as president and a prayer was offered before the meeting adjourned. Light refreshments were served later.
Dinner For Friend
An informal house warming, last evening, given by the newly-weds, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Losey, was a delightfully pretty affair. The traditional joke of a bride's inability to cook was entirely disproven at the dinner served in three courses at 7 clock, to the merry little company, with Mr. Delmar Branch, a college chum of the host, as guest of honor.
Other guests included the Misses Club Meets In New Home
Undaunted by the summer weather which caused the abandonment of meetings of several clubs during July and August, the Coterie club met yesterday with Mrs. Herman Shindler at her lovely new Spanish home, on south Palmst. The hostess graciously showed her guests over her pretty home before the games, much to their pleasure.
Three tables of five hundred were played, highest scores going to Mrs. George Peck, Mrs. Rosie Van Horn and Mrs. C. B. Harrison. No consolation presents are given by the club.
Other members playing, of whom there are several new ones, were the Mesdames C. B., Harrison, William Lake, Joe Stroup, Fred, Mang, Richard Groos, Henry Heying, F.G. Mauer, Henry Husmann, Henry Schindler, and Henrietta Simms.
Tables were cleared of cards and quickly arranged for the delicious luncheon which Mrs. Schindler served at 4:20.
Compliments Missionaries
Miss Viola Hill, of Santa Ana, who will sail in August for Ningpo, China, to again take up her duties as missionary, Mrs. William Ashmore, also a missionary, who has been in the states for the benefit of her health, was also a guest of honor.
With her husband, Mrs. Ashmore, too, will resume missionary work in the Orient.
Several ladies from Anaheim were among those attending the program and to bid the honored guests goodbye. A shower of gifts was a pleasing and surprising feature which all enjoyed quite as much as the honorees. A program of music contributed by members from the Long Beach delegation, after which a luncheon was served in the dining room of the Santa Ana First Baptist church, where the pleasant meeting was held.
