EXPECT NEW LIFE IN RICHFIELD DIST.
With Oil Operators)
Richfield is scheduled for a new lease on life with the work of the Amalgamated Oil Co. at Placentia-Pacific No. 1. New hole is now being made at 3925 and the showings are beginning to indicate that the Amalgamated did not pick a lemon when it agreed to take this well over and make something out of it.
The Union Oil Co.'s Dickson No. 1 completed at 4800 feet is about to have the honor of the deepest California producer. The deep well was put on production a few days ago and started off making some water and 40 barrels of oil. However unless the Dickson well comes up on production its advent will not encourage deep drilling at Richfield. Chapman 20, another deep well recently put on production has increased its output to considerable better than 200 barrels.
There will be little surprise if the Standard Oil Company should ball some Chinamen cues out of Kellogg No. 2 now drilling at close to 5600 feet. Grey sand was struck soon after leaving 5000 feet and this formation has continued to 5575 with but few breaks. The chance for even a commercial producer is exceedingly small. However the Standard never quits until every chance for getting oil is exhausted, a policy that gives the land owners a lot of satisfaction, and a prestige in obtaining leases that few other companies enjoy.
"Jim" O'Donnell has started extensive development work on the Whitley Oil Company's properties at Ridecut Heights and some interesting things can be expected soon. O'Donnel will redrill and deepen No. 2, deepen and shut off water in No. 6, and spud in on No. 8 and drill it into production. The Whitley properties have possibilities and O'Donnel's experience and money should develop those possibilities.

EVANGELIST TELLS OF SUNDAY QUARRELS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., July 7.
—Rev. Melvin E. Trotter, evangelist, who is being sued for separate maintenance by his wife, collared during the trial here that the numerous quarrels between him and his wife usually took place on Sunday. H said:
"Our quarrels were always caused by the Sunday night worship when attendants would come forward after the service to speak to me. My wife said many women came to the mission, not to worship God, but to worship me."

INVESTIGATE ROBBERY
The robbery of the railway car at the local Santa Fe yards Wednesday night was being investigated today by Joe Mariollo, of Fullerton, special agent of the railway company, who was working under the direction of Deputy Sheriff Johnson of San Bernardino-co. He is trying to find the store in Anaheim which sold a man a bottle of Huffland bitters such as was left in the car. Part of the stolen cigars and tobacco have been recovered.
FEAR FOR HARDEN'S LIFE
WASHINGTON, July 7 — Maximilian Harden, who was seriously wounded in a recent assault in Berlin, is not yet out of danger, according to a radiogram received by A. E. Fontheir, stepson of Harden.

WATERSPOUT TERRIFIES
NEW YORK, July 7.—A water spout, a mile high, swept down upon the Cunard liner Carmania when the vessel was three days out from port, and for half an hour terrified passengers and threatened to engulf the vessel.
The story was told today when the Carmania docked at the end of a round trip to the near east. The water spout, drawn whirling up out of the ocean, towered in the wake of the Carmania, and for a time appeared to be overtaking the vessel.
It seemed as though the great mass of twisting water were actually pursuing the Carmania, office's said. Capt. Nelson quieted a near and signaled for full speed ahead, and the Carmania outdisanced the great fountain, which subsided.
CAR FARES CUT
CHICAGO, July 7.—Street car fares for Chicago were slashed from 8 to 6 cents today by the Illinois commerce commission.
Under the ruling of the commission, there will be no charge for transfers and children under 12 years of age will be charged half fare.
The town is the center of the Alaska salmon fishing industry, and is built at the foot of a mountain which rises abruptly from the sea. Since the baseball fans must have their game, they have reclaimed the only available flat surface from Clarence Etraits on a part time contract.
A commodious grandstand has been built inshore, but the diamond is not permanently laid out, being of necessity relaid before each game is begun. Similarly the tide tables must be consulted before the season's game schedule can be arranged. For when the tide is in the "ball park" becomes part of the Pacific Ocean and the game must be called.

Ruether's Public Market is abuzz with business these days and housewives who have patronized this clean and up-to-date market realize that here in Anaheim, in the center of the shopping district, is everything in abundance that can be desired. One need not look far for fruits, vegetables, meats, bread and pastries, cold meats, spices and different canned goods, and if one wishes to satisfy thirst and hunger, a stop at the lunch counter can quickly relieve this desire.
Robert A. Hall is meeting with wonderful success with his Sanitary Dairy Lunch. Young ladies in fifty white uniforms serve tasty lunches to suit the palate of all. This is an ideal place for the business man or woman to eat.
Delicious fruits and vegetables of all descriptions greet the eye of the shopper and J. W. Freda and his efficient clerks can please the most particular.
A pleasing aroma of coffee and teas greets the housewife as she enters the market, and she is at once directed to Billy Lake's coffee stand in the center section. He also carries spices and roasted peanuts. Mrs. Lake is introducing to Anaheim, Pierson's Apple Blossom powders and perfumes. All Anaheim ladies should go to the market and see Mrs. Lake and get a supply of these necessary articles for their vacation outing. Quality is their motto.
Meat is a necessity and Schneider Brothers figured on this when they engaged space in the new market. Oscar Schneider and his able assistant, "Duke Degryse," are pleasing housewives. They are doing a big business, far exceeding what they had figured on.
Mr. Hope, in charge of the Wm. Fassel "Quality and Service" Store, states that business is on the upward climb. They have a number of attractively arranged show cases and shelves and they

CHURCH MEMBERS BATTLE
MOSCOW, July 7.—The first
bloodshed growing out of the recent
decision to confiscate the treasures
of the churches, in order to assist
the famine-stricken regions, occurred at Shey, a town near the Urals.
Members of the congregation, resisting the authorities' attempt to confiscate the valuables during services, suffered losses of four killed and ten wounded.
Red guards, using their rifles and revolvers, forced a passage through the crowd, blocking the church doorway and allowing the town authorities to enter the building unarmed.
According to the Izvestia, the members of the congregation struck several of the authorities. When the congregation and the accompanying crowd refused to disperse orders were given to fire into the air as a warning. The crowd still refusing to disperse, the Red guards opened direct fire.

FROM STAGE TO CELL
LONDON, July 7.—A star comedian at a West End theatre went through his paces at the matinee while two policemen waited to take him to jail for nonpayment of income tax.
The performance over, the comedian went to his dressing room with the policemen and then went to jail. The policemen arrived at the theater just as the comedian was going on.
They were persuaded to wait until the performance was over.
THIRTY TONS OF GOLD
BRUSSELS, July 7.—Thirty tons of gold have been extracted from the Belgian government gold mines at Kilo Moto, in the Congo, according to a report by vice governor Monlaert, who is president of the special committee sent out 18 months ago to start operations.
Over 6,000 natives and 100 whites are employed on the work, the report stated.
