MORE WELLS SOON AT SANTA FE SPGS. While Santa Fe Springs did not furnish any new gushers last week, there are a number of wells near completion that will do credit to the field. The Standard Oil Co.'s Brownrigg-Kellar, completed at 4730, has shown evidences of equalling and possibly bettering the Amalgamated's Butterworth No. 1 adjoining. The Petroleum Midway is drilling the cement out at Wickman No. 1—3750 and production is expected about 3800. The Universal's Blanchar No. 1 will be testing water and drilling in soon, Parkford's Santa Fe Springs Oil Syndicate located in the south side of the field has all the earmarks of another Bell No. 1. The north side of the Santa Fe Springs field got a temporary set back when the B. G. T. Oil Company twisted off and left 20 stands of drill pipe in the hole at 3737. The fishing job has resolved into something of a complication and it will be some time probably before drilling can be resumed. Getting a nice showing of gas in the Scientific's No. 1 at the comparative shallow depth of 3000 feet has caused something of a stir. The showing comes much higher up than has hereofore been considered possible. The Nevada Ventura's excellent showing at 3600 along with the gas in the Scientific has upset the local ecological "dope." At the time the Scientific and the Nevada-Ventura went into the field, oil experts cheered them on with the statement that it would be necessary to go to 5000 feet before anything like an oil showing could be expected. The Union OH Company has been unable to find anything that would give any encouragement to operations in the north western side of the field, as the Flood well is close to 4500 feet and not showing anything. Core samples are being taken every ten feet, and there will be no chance for any one to say that the Union passed-up the "pay." Passing up sands has become a common criticism among those who have yet to learn much about the development and production of petroleum. The Amalgamated Oil Co. continues to make big money for the Miley-Keck interests at Huntington. Miley- H. R. H.
