CASEY, THE COP
FARM EXCURSION TO
CITRUS INSTITUTE
Citrus growers of Orange-co. are invited to join the auto excursions Friday and Saturday mornings, July 14th and 15th, for the So. Calif. Citrus Institute at Pomona. The pilgrimage will leave Tustin High School at 7:45 a.m. both mornings, Santa Ana Junior high school 8 a.m., Anaheim public library 8:30 a.m., Fulerton Masonic building 8:45 a.m., Brea Grammar school at 9 a.m.
The frost problem will be the subject of Friday's program. The cost of frost protection equipment and whether this cost is justifiable under Orange-co. conditions will be features of interest to the local growers.
Saturday, July 15th, will be devoted to problems of progress in citrus pest control. Fumigation, spraying and parisite control will be taken up by authoritative speakers and scientific investigators. Every grower in Orange-co. should attend these sessions, which have been arranged through considerable effort by the Agricultural Extension Services of Los Angeles and Orange-co.
The opening of the Brea Canyon road will make the Institute easily

MARGUERITA SYLVA
Notable names are included in the list of the artists who are active in the big open air performance of "Carmen", which will be given the evening of July 8 in the Hollywood Bowl. Marguerita Sylva will sing the leading role. Carl Gantvoort, celebrated basso of the Boston Opera Company, Edward Johnson, leading tenor of the Chicago Opera Company, Henri Scott, principal baritone of the Meropolitan Opera Company, and Edna Leopold, a lyric soprano with a large following on the concert stage, are all cast in important singing roles.

TROUBLE SOLVED IN PUENTE HILLS?
WITH OIL OPERATORS
It is believed that the Jose Oil Co. (Bardeen) has solved its difficulty in the Puente Hills by locating an intermediate water. For months the water has defied every effort to shut it off, and has held the well up. With the location of the water a certainty there seems to be little doubt now that a successful shut-off will be made and Hardoen will be able to prove his contention that the Puente Hills is the next oil field of importance.
The city of Redondo halted the General Petroleum's work on the Petitfield holdings last week. It seems some thirty days ago the Redondo city dads decided they did not want their beautiful city dug up and passed an ordinance for bidding drilling within the limits. The action of the city stops the General Petroleum's operations on the Petitfield lease on which one well is producing and two other wells were being prepared for drilling.
The Chansler-Canfield's discovery well Del Amo No. 1 has increased its production to 325 barrels, almost doubling the output of the week before. The sudden drop from 800 to 200 was the source of some anxiety on the part of those interested in the field. The decrease in production is believed to be due to sanding up, a condition that seems to be clearing up. The Fullerton Oil Company and W.M.Keck are the week's ne warrivals in the Redondo field, each will start new wells drilling in a few days.

WE TOLD YOU, YESTERDAY—
about how these groves in Cerro Villa, acquired now at only $1350 per acre, which price by the way includes an abundance of water, are bound to be worth in 1924 around $2000 an acre, in 1925 around $2750 an acre, in 1926, $3200 per acre and in 1928, $4000 or more per acre, and so on.
Now, about the income these groves should bring, based on actual production records taken from packing houses, good Valencia groves in this section yield about as follows, it being conceded that a 4 yr. old grove produces enough to pay all expenses:
5 yrs. old 7 yrs. old 9 yrs. old 11 yrs. old
$225 $750 $1125 $1575
per acre per acre per acre per acre
These figures show the average returns from good groves, not from the packing house, and from them must be deducted the expense of labor, water, fertilizer, fumigation, etc., which items on a bearing grove, figuring all the work hired, runs in the neighborhood of $200 to $250 per acre.
Possibly you would like to see these groves in Cerro Villa, or know more about them. Just phone us or come in and we will gladly show them to you. We also have a large, select list of bearing groves and walnut lands.
