Light Six Studios YOUR PLAIN Decidedly FORING THEM
There are plenty of good AT GROW-why the Studebaker light six so such quantities all over Orange county, says Harry D. Riley, distributor. For example:
At all driving speeds up to fifty-five miles an hour, the light six is freer from vibration than any car of its approximate size and weight yet produced in Europe of America.
The powerful motor contains noteworthy inventions and improvements by Studebaker engineers, and is most efficient in utilizing the low grades of fuel now on the market.
The clutch, transmission, axles, gears, brakes and operating mechanism generally are co-ordinated in design, manufactured by one organization, and function harmoniously as a complete, well-built, reliable automobile.
The light-six is built complete in the most modern and complete automobile plant in the world, erected by Studebaker at South Bend especially for the production of this car. Over $20,000,000 have been spent, and the buildings, machinery and entire plant equipment are the finest that money can buy. Noteworthy for precision of measurement, quality, and completeness is the wonderful equipment of tools, jigs, dies, and gauges. All of the tools were designed and many of them made by Studebaker experts. The engines, axles, transmissions, frames, bodies, tops and other parts of the car are produced complete, under scientific methods and constant inspections to prevent errors.
DODGE CARS ARE SELLING FAST
Mann has sold all the cars of the changed models he was able to obtain and now over some more, which are likely to just as fast as the first ones.
The Dodge always has been a dependable machine mechanically, and the improvements are rather in the line of improving appearances. The company has at the same time cut costs of manufacture and given the purchaser the benefit.
"Wood practically is eliminated from the construction of the business coupe, which is the first all-stel car ever marketed in America," says Mann. "Hence the costly and tedious individual work required on wood bodies is ended, and quantity production is possible. Even the framework and panels are of steel, and the natural result is a lighter, quieter and more durable car. Steel prolongs the life and reduces the possibility of squeaks and rattles."
"It is in reality a coupe at a roadster price."
"The car is built to stand the hammering of everyday use, but it possesses the beauty of line which everybody is accustomed to look for in Dodge cars." Mann continued. "It lacks only what I might term the depreciation liabilities of the more expensive coupes. It is upholstered in genuine leather, has a wide, comfortable straight seat, is equipped with cord tires, heater, dome-light, windshield cleaner and adjustments for lowering and raising windows."
Regarding the changes in other cars, Mann said that it was the company's policy to make changes year after year and month after month to maintain the progress toward better things which Dodge cars always have displayed.

Hudson-Essex Outfit
Breaks All Records
The output of the Hudson Motor Car Co., and Essex Motors on June 20 reached the largest number of cars ever made by the companies in their history in a single day—305 Hudson and Essex cars being produced in nine hours.
The largest previous single day's production was on April 7, when 300 cars were turned out in 10 hours and 20 minutes.
On the following day, with less than six months of 1922 gone, Hudson and Essex surpassed their total 1921 production of 27,143, according to word just received from the factory at Detroit by H. L. Grove, local manager of Townsend & Nudery, Hudson-Essex dealers.
"Hudson and Essex are now out to beat their output for their greatest year heretofore—1920," says Grove. "They plan to do it by early fall. Even after all records are broken, officials inform me that the company's big plant is certain to continue heavy production because of the unprecedented demand for Hudson and Essex cars—particularly the new coach models."
"Hudson and Essex have enjoyed a remarkable year to date. March sales were greater than those for any month since July, 1920. April exceeded March by a considerable margin. May's were the greatest in the history of the two companies, and June totals, when compiled will be found to be even higher."
WOMEN DIG OWN
GRAVES WITH TEETH
LONDON, July 1.—"Women eat too much."
Thus Cecil Webb Johnson, a London doctor, claims that women, "dig their graves with their teeth."
"I feel it to be a public duty to warn women that if they increase the amount of food they take in the 24 hours the only people who will benefit will be the doctors," he declared.
He attributes the prime cause of premature illness and death among women to:
Incessant "nibbling."
Too many "messes" and not enough fruit.
Forcing food down at all hours instead of eating regularly.
Too much tea drinking.
Lack of green stuffs, salads, spinach, etc.
Too much meat.

It seems impossible, doesn't it, but it is absolutely true. This was done with a Ford car in the city of Chicago a few weeks ago. This assertion is backed by the A.A.A. and the Auto Club of Chicago. This car was fitted with one of the new type O-F Stromberg carburetors which are taking the country by storm. This carburetor sells for only $15.75, complete with all fittings including a hot spot manifold and is installed on 10 days trial. If at the end of this time the Ford owner is not thoroughly satisfied or more than satisfied purchase price is refunded.
West Bros. are No. Orange-co distributors for the Stromberg carburetor and have a number of this type carburetor sold. On account of the great demand customers are taken care of in the order that their names are received. This wonderful product can be seen at West Bros., The Auto Electric Maintenance Co., at Los Angeles and Chestnut-sts., Anaheim. They will be glad to tell you all about the world's greatest carburetor.
Goodyear Advice Free, But Valuable
Is a tire only a tire? Nenno & Bock, local distributors of the Goodyear, don't think so. A tire's a shock absorber, to a certain extent, and means much in the comfort of driving. A tire may cut upkeep expenses tremendously. In cases where the cargo is delicate, the tire may fit the need, just as it does with the passengers it carries. It may save mileage and oil. Yes, tires are important, says the firm.
Goodyear service stations, of which Nenno & Bock's is the local one, tell you what is the correct tire for your vehicle, whether it is a truck or pleasure car. They tell you how to take care of your tires, realizing there's no money in losing a good customer. They'll tell you the proper rims to use. They'll give you in short the benefit of all the mistakes corrected, which largely is what experience means.

NEW AUTO FENDER STOPS CAR AS HIT
Photo shows the test of a really new safety device for automobiles, tried out in the presence of Chief of Police O'Brien of San Francisco. A spring cable "bumper" is so connected that on hitting a pedestrian it instantly shuts off the ignition and applies the brakes. In this test a car going fifteen miles an hour was stopped in two feet automatically. A secondary bumper is designed to protect the machine itself should a solid object be struck. The spring cable bumper "gives" a foot, eliminating the first shock when the pedestrian is struck.
GOWNS OF MOVIE STAR WILL DAZZLE
Maron Aye, the beautiful film queen whose vaudeville debut will take place at the California theatre tomorrow, promises a real treat in two manners. First of all, she is going to display some remarkable gowns. Her wardrobe has just arrived from New York and according to the pretty star, should dazzle the eyes of all who witness it. Next in order is the nature of her entertainment.
Miss Aye has surrounded herself with one of the jazziest of jazz bands who promise to jazz things up entirely in keeping with Maryon's ultra-nothing costumes and Irving Grossman, known throughout the country as one of the finest lyric tenors, will serve the song fest of the occasion. Miss Aye and Mr. Grossman do several things.
FRENCH MOTHERS DEBATE LIBERTY
PARIS, July 1. — Paris mothers are stirred over a question of propriety.
Should they allow their daughters on the streets unaccompanied and, if so, at what age can they be safely turned loose from the protecting eye?
Before the war came to upset traditions, the question could simply never have been raised as there could have been but one answer—a negative one. The burdens which women of all ages, however, were called upon to play during the war have wrought a change in the whole social fabric and just how great this change has been, may be reflected on some of the views expressed by readers in the French press.
The remarkable feature of the discussion is that not a single mother's voice has been raised in protest against allowing young women to go about unaccompanied, the discussion has centered on determining the age...
GOODYear service stations, of which Nenno & Bock's is the local one, tell you what is the correct wire for your vehicle, whether it is a truck or pleasure car. They'll give you in short the benefit of all the mistakes corrected, which largely is what experience means.
COLDEST SPOT ON EARTH 515 BELOW
WASHINGTON, July 1. — The coldest spot in the world has been found. By comparison the North Pole is warmer than the tropics.
A person able to stand this new frigidity could explore the Arctic circle if a hula hula skirt.
It is so much colder than any other spot in the universe that comparisons are almost impossible. To be exact, it is 515 degrees Fahrenheit, below zero.
The known temperature near the North Pole varies from 30 to 60 degrees below zero. At the highest altitude ever reached in an airplane the temperature hovered around 60 degrees below zero. This was nearly seven miles up.
This record low temperature was produced in the cryogenic laboratory of the bureau of mines department of interior, where for more than two years scientists have been working in an effort to liquefy helium gas, purify it and make it 100 per cent efficient in the lift of giant dirigibles.
There is no limit to what may be expected, except in the insulation of the condenser coils. These must be absolutely protected from any outside temperatures, and constructing a vacuum about them has been one of the most difficult obstacles to overcome.
GUARD SPURNS GOLD FOR SIGHT OF CELL
PARIS, July 1. — Another division has been added to the classic trip to Versalles, which every conscientious American tourist feels bound to devote a day to.
In the old days, the 'trippers' were content to visit the palace of the grand monarch, the man of many—er, favorites. But nowadays they demand to visit the prison of Landru, the man of many fiances.
They find the prison guardian adamant, however. No, not for any tip under the sun will he let them visit the condemned cell of the man of the mighty beard. All they can do to get a thrill is to stand outside the prison on the very spot where, that cold February morning, Landru's severed head dropped into the waiting basket.

Grossman do several exceptional numbers together and their offering has been regarded as one of the season's finest.
Maryon Aye is a picture star of no mean repute. Her pictures have been released throughout the world and she has just completed a movie contract in which she made and delivered eighteen Western films starring in all of them. Chief among these are "A Streak of Yellow," "No Man's Gold," "When East Meets West," "The Artful Avenger," "Phantom of the Hills," and many others. She was a Vitagraph and Fox star for many months and will return to the movies in the fall—after her summer vaudeville tour.
Maryon Aye has won many honors for her beauty and form divine. Bert Levy, the famed London cartoonist and painter submitted a series of twelve studies of Miss Aye in the Annual London Art Exhibit. The display won first prizes. She has posed for many of the world's greatest artists and her face has appeared on the covers of practically every magazine in the country. Miss Aye was the first movie star to sign the much talked about morality clause in picture stars' contracts. The picture program is also very enticing, to say the least. Betty Compson, darling of the screen, will appear in her newest photoplay. "Over the Border."
Unquestionably, this is Betty's greatest picture and should create much comment here Sunday and Monday.
The photoplay program also includes another thrilling chapter of "Robinson Crusoe," which will be shown Sunday afternoon only. It will afford the kiddies another opportunity to get punches for their cards, and some boy or girl going to win that Catalina free trip, so get busy, kiddies.
With DeWitt Reese at the monster Wurlitzer organ, and the other splendid subjects on the bill, it promises to be one of the most sensational programs here in many a day.
