MANY NEW WELLS BEGUN AT SANTA FE WITH OIL OPERATORS While Santa Fe Springs did not bring in any new producers during the past week the number of new wells started eclipses all field records and shows the interest that the big operators are taking in this new wonder field. The Coalinga Mohawk started its third well, the General Petroleum made five new locations and started new work on five new wells, the C. C. Julian Company started two wells, the Standard Oil Company located and started construction of rigs for three wells on the Koonitz lease, and the Union Oil Company located and started rigs building on the Alexander 2, 3, 2nd 4. The Fullerton Oil Co. is losing faith in the Santa Fe Springs field, on account of getting a water sand at 3935 in the Bermudez No. 1. The Fullerton like the Central and Standard and Coalinga-Mohawk happened to choose the northside of the field which is proving out to be deep territory, the wells will run 4500 feet and deeper. The Union Oil Co.'s Flood No. 1 the northeast outpost well of the Santa Fe Springs field has passed the 4100 foot mark without showing any oil or even any indications of it. Aside from the General Petroleum's two big wells on the Santa Fe lease and the Union's big Bell discovery wells the Santa Fe Springs field has not proven the wonderful field it looked like it was going to become six months ago. The Amalgamated's Dallugge No. 1 has failed to come back, the Coalinga-Mohawk is a long ways from production in its two wells, the Getty Oil Co. has a gas well at its No. 1, the Petroleum Midway's Folx did not come up to expectations by any means and is now beeredrilled and deepened, the Standard Oil Company has wells running from 3800 to 4800 and has battled with water in all but one of them, the Union Oil Company has two producers, the Bell and the Alexander No. 2, to show for its tremendous development outlay. These conditions are mentioned not to hurt the field nor to detract from the interest, but are given as the actual conditions and CASEY, THE COP MIGOSH OFFICER THERE'S SOME ONE PROWLIN AROUND MY BACKYARD!! AMERICAN GIRLS HAVE FEW PASTIMES Amusements for girls are few and far between in South America. "You just cannot imagine life with none of the recreations to which you are accustomed at home," writes Miss Helen Kennedy Stevens from Buenos Aires. "The movies are the only form of public amusement and no senorita of any family can go without her mother. Young, unmarried women simply never go out of the house alone. The fun we have at home at picnics and going out in mixed parties is absolutely unknown here." "The public has been slow to recognize the importance of giving girls opportunities to learn to become better wives and mothers," she writes. "Things are far from easy because at every step you have to commit popular public opinion which holds no place for women and their mental and physical development." TYPES OF PEOPLE LIVING IN NORWAY There are two types of people in Norway—the tall, hardy blond and a short, dark race. The blonds are descended from a people who originally came from the Caucasian mountains. The dark race inhabited the peninsula at an early period and the darker types are descendants from these people. Honesty, simplicity and kindliness are three virtues for which the Norwegians are especially noted. From their brave Viking ancestors they inherit their fearlessness and love of the sea. Norwegian society bares the reputation of being the most democratic in the whole of Europe. There are no privilege classes and no orders of nobility. Almost three-fourths of the people live in rural communities along the coast and fjords. Baldwin Refrigerators save the group-Barnes Furniture Co. Witman, Eyesight specialist. ANAHEIM FEED & FUEL COMPANY Hay, Grain, Seeds, Poultry Supplies Fertilizers, Wood, Coal, Sprays and Insecticides Public Weigh Masters WELL AT REDONDO CONTINUES DECLINE With Oil Operators The discovery well at Redondo continues to decline on production and the action of the well has been the cause of some speculation and study. A month ago this well came in at 1000 barrels, dropped the next day to 800 barrels. At the end of the week the production fell to 360 barrels, today the well is making less than 200. It is thought that the well is sanding up, the natural decline in oil well never being as rapid as this well has fallen. The United Oil Co. re-cemented its Francis No. 1 shutting off the bottom water and putting the well in condition to produce at 3851. At 3906 feet the Francis developed bottom water in spite of the big showing of oil the well made. The Long Beach Con. the pioneer of the Newport field is putting its No. 1 on production at 3900 feet. The well has been pumping water and some oil color for ten days. It appears that the Long Beach Con. will have to go on deeper. Failure of the cement to set will hold up the San Pedro Point Fermin well another ten days. At 1268—12½ a cementing was made to shut off all surface water. On drilling out it was found that the cement had not set. LARGE SHEEP SHELTER What is claimed to be the world's largest sheep shelter, having accommodations for 70,000 animals has been built in Illinois by a railroad.
