SCOUTS PICNIC AT NEWPORT JUNE 21ST
FRENCH SCOUTS
Boy Scouts Weekly News Letter
Boy Scouts of America are again cooperating with French Boy Scouts in furnishing supervision of them at their summer camp this year. Mr. Loren W. Barclay, National Director of Education for the Boy Scouts of America, has been in charge of the Boy Scouts camps in France for two years and this year will again assume charge of these camps. The French Scout Camps are made possible by troops throughout the country adopting a French scout and sending him to camp. These boys have for two years, camped in the devastated area of France and have done such wonderful work that the French government has awarded Mr. Barclay the highest awards it can give. One of the remarkable features of Mr. Barclay's supervision is that when he went to France for the first time he could not speak French at all but because of the Scout ideals he seemed to be able to impart the spirit of Scouting to those boys very readily. The Orange-co. troops, now numbering some 33, sent $25 to National Council to pay for French boy at camp this summer.
SWIMMING MEET
The first big summer event for Orangeco. Scouts is scheduled at Newport Beach June 21. The scouts of the entire county are going to accept the invitation of Newport Troop No. 1, under the direction of Scoutmaster A. J. Twist and put in a real day of sport, starting in the morning with a boat ride, having lunch on the beach, participating in a big swimming meet of speedy spectacular events in the afternoon and ending in the evening with a big weiner roast on the beach.
PREVENT THAT PUNCTURE
CAMPAIGN
Scouts of the entire county are getting into the contest to remove from the highways all articles that will puncture a tire. Several thousands and articles have already been gathered and it is expected by the end of the campaign, Sept. 1st, that there will be several hundred.

COUNTY VALUES UP
85 PCT. IN 4YEARS
In the four years between June 30, 1917, and June 30, 1921, the assessed valuation of Orange county has increased approximately 85 per cent or from $69,546,516 to $128,556,-171, an examination of the sports of the State Comptroller for 1917 and 1921 shows. The latter report has just appeared. Of the sums mentioned $9,556,651 and $12,826,986 respectively were operative.
On the other hand, total bonded indebtedness has increased from only $2,356,250 to $8,723,250. This is 58 per cent, which shows that tiny as the indebtedness was four years ago in comparison with the assessed valuation; it is still smaller now, comparatively speaking.
Four years ago general taxes amounted to $668,562.22, against $883,979.52 now. During this time fees have increased from $29,090.60 to only $38,798.76; firs and penalties from $9,645.00 to but $15,-508.75; privileges from $1,532.78 to only $2,600.34; interest and receipts from $3,086.08 to but $26,622.71; subventions and grants from $169,-906.36 to $264,953.00.

PREVENT THAT PUNCTURE
CAMPAIGN
Scouts of the entire county are getting into the contest to remove from the highways all articles that will puncture a tire. Several thousand articles have already been gathered and it is expected by the end of the campaign, Sept. 1st, that there will be several hundred thousand articles gathered. The boys have started out with determination to bear the record of Pasadena, where over 700,000 articles were gathered in two months. The Auto Club of So Calif., through its Safety Department, has offered a very beautiful plaque to the troop gathering the largest number of articles in this contest.
BREA
The BSA troop committee, under the direction of Rev. Earl Sechrist, chairman, is rapidly bringing Scouting to the front in this community. This committee is planning to call its first meeting of the Scouts, after a long period of inactivity, very shortly. Other members of the troop committee are J. C. Sexton, Rev. W. E. Spicer and Mr. High.
NEW TROOPS
A meeting of District Committee No. 4, consisting of Anaheim and the adjacent country, is planned for Thursday evening to form at least four new troops in Anaheim by Oct. 1st. The troop organization committee of the county is endeavoring to have at least 40 organized Scout troops in the county by the first of November. Mr. George W. Sloop is chairman of Dist. Committee No. 4.
WON'T STOP LIQUOR SALES
WASHINGTON, June 15.—The order authorizing the sale of liquor on shipping board vessels outside the three-mile limit will not be issued unless the Supreme Court rules that sales are illegal, Chairman Albert D. Lasker said.
OLINDA
Olinda Bey Scouts are very thankful to the women of the community who helped in any way with the Scout booth at the Anaheim Orange show. We cleared almost $60, which will go to the purchase of a troop flag, an American flag, and other articles we are in need of.

Three Year Guarantee That You Do Not Have to Use Water Is Given
A new type of automobile battery being shown here is the Mac-Dry battery, a feature of which it requires no water, acid or attention of any kind.
"Neither a dry cell or a wet battery, in the generally accepted sense of the term," said B. F. Herr, of 252 N. Los Angeles street, Anaheim, distributor, "the Mac-Dry battery is one that is sure to create much interest here and will prove itself popular to motorists. It is a starting, lighting and ignition battery but it requires no water, acid or attention of any kind. It is not a 'hot shot' battery but is a tried and proven automobile storage battery.
"The solution in the Mac-Dry battery is a crystal-like substance, giving off no moisture and having no water or acid to stop over and corrode battery terminals, battery box or anything else that it comes in contact with."
"Of patented construction, this battery has also done away with the separator plates and thus has eliminated another constant source of trouble and annoyance.
"Although a new-comer to the trade here, the Mac-Dry battery has been tested for the last three years."
"The rigid guarantee that goes with the battery warrants it to give entire satisfaction for a period of three years without water, acid or attention of any kind."

COULD NOT TURN IN BED
Operation Avoided by Taking Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound
Dayton, Ohio. "I had such pains that I had to be turned in bed every time I wished to move. They said an operation was necessary. My mother would keep saying: 'Why don't you take Pinkham's Henrietta?' and I'd say, 'Oh, mamma, it won't help me. I've tried too much.' One day she said, 'Let me get you one bottle of each kind. You won't be out very much if it don't help you.' I don't know if you will believe me or not, but I only took two bottles of Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound and one of Lydia E. Pinkham's Blood Medicine when I began to get relief and I am regular ever since without a pain or a headache.
When I lie down I can get up without help and without pain. I can't begin to tell you how I feel and look. I have begun to gain in weight and look more like I ought to. I think every day of ways I have been helped. Any one who does not believe me can write to me and I will tell them what shape I was in. I am ready to do anything I can to help your medicine."—Mrs. HENRIETTA MILLER, 137 Sprague St., Dayton, Ohio.
If you have any doubt write to Mrs. Miller and get her story direct.
