HUNTINGTON BEACH
JUMPS 2000 BBLS.
With Oil Operators
Huntington Beach operators were rewarded with several nice producers the last week. The Amalgamated Oil Co. redrilled and put Huntington 1-B on production at 300 barrels. This was one of the first producers in the field, it came in a 200 barrel well two years ago and gradually declined. The deepening more than doubled the production and shows what the Huntington Beach field is capable of doing in the deeper sands.
The Argonaut Oil Co. duplicated the work of the Amalgamated by deepening Turley No. 1 and doubling its production. Like the A. O. Co.'s Huntington the Turley well was one of the first to produce at Huntington Beach in the upper sands. Deepened 316 feet the production was raised from 100 to 200 barrels.
The Golden Dome Oil Co. seemingly has a commercial producer in sight. Completed at 3007 feet this well has been shut in to build up a gas pressure. It is the impression that if the well falls to flow it will make a good pumper. The Golden Dome will have considerable to do with future development of the east side of the field and its coming into production is being watched with great interest.
The Petroleum Midway's Pearce No. 1 recently shut off water at 3236 in 10-inch and on drilling out the cement the well started flowing. The flow has been allowed to continue and this well is doing better than 150 barrels thru the ten inch casing, and is proving quite a remarkable well.
The Republic Petroleum after a half year of trouble and disappointments at No. 2 (Crane) has been rewarded with something nice. The Crane well was completed at 3015 feet and is flowing 275 barrels.
John F. Tracy, a Pasadena man, took over the andburg Petroleum well, drilled it to 2696 and is putting it on production.

Bell of Montebello Produces 350 Bbls.
With Oil Operators
The Bell of Montebello (Triangle Syndicate) is now a producing company. The Bell brought in a 350 barrel well at 3732 feet. At the time Huntington Beach was discovered, the Bell of Montebello had just finished a 5200 dry hole at Montebello, pulled steaks and went into Huntington Beach, secured leases that have proven valuable, and how the small and struggling company is on the way up.
The Western Star Oil (O'Donnell) completed its first Huntington Beach producer and brought in a 400 barrel well on the Judd lease. Judd No.1 was finished at 3671 and looks like one of the good producers of the field.
The Standard Oil Co. put two wells on production, Huntington A-9 a 100 barrel well at 2664 ft and A-13 a 400 barrel well at 3505.

Well, I don't say nothin', Then pretty soon another feller parks his. Still I don't say nothin'. But when a third does the same thing, I gets fretful.
"Say,' I says, 'what's the big idea?"
"Pardner,' one of the fellers says, 'you don't think we're goin' to take no chances by turmin' our heads, do you?'"

SH-H-H! SECRET! BEBE DANIELS IS FRECKLED
Bebe Daniels
in the Paramount Picture
North of the Rio Grande
Would you believe it? Bebe Daniels has freckles!
The tell-tale evidence was accumulated on a month's "location" in the rought and rugged Arizona cow-country for scenes in "North of the Rio Grande," a western picture in which she co-stars with Jack Holt.
The appearance of the freckles is explained by the fact that this picture offered the first long sequence of "out door stuff" pretty Bebe has done for several years.
They do say that the exquisite Danielian nose became plentifully decorated with the brown "beauty spots" generally considered to be the exclusive property of Wesley Barry, the juvenile of the screen.
"North of the Rio Grande" will be shown at the California theatre to day and tomorrow.

L. B. PRODUCTION CLIMBS TO 41,000
With Oil Operators
Production rose to staggering figures at Long Beach during the past week. The daily output is now 41. barrels, and this figure will be doubled inside of the next thirty days completion come up to expectations. Long Beach has made the most phenomenal record of any field in California. Less than a year old this field has attained the biggest production from the smallest number of wells in the shortest time of any of the fields. The average production from the 35 wells now making the 41,000 barrels is better than a 1000 barrels per well, an average that is a record breaker. The smallest well in the field is making 80 barrels, the largest is doing over 3400. There are any number of wells doing 1000, 2000 and 3000 barrels. The gravity of the oil produced runs from 21 to 27.1. Every well that is flowing a 1000 barrels or more is producing from 3 to 10 million cubic feet of gas. There is little doubt now about Long Beach being a long lived field. The production is coming from wells that have producing sands running from a 100 to 500 feet in thickness.
The Shell Company of California, the company that has the honor of discovering Signal Hill, is producing more than half the daily output of NO CAUSE FOR WORRY
Although far coffee-colored husband had just completed advantageous trade in the mule market, Mrs. Jefferson Lee was perturbed.
"Rastus," she worried, "yo-all tol Mister Jackson dat mule was gentle, on yo' knows she's a reg'lar debbil S'posin' she kicks Mister Jackson. Den he'll bring dat mule back an' raise flits."
"Lissen,' looman..." returned her husband tranquilly. "If dat mule breaks mah guarantee and kicks Mistah Jackson, Mistah Jackson ain't gwine brin gdat mule back. No, ma'am. Ah knows dat mule's power."
THE INFORMATION BUREAU*
A guest hurried up to the hotel clerk's counter. He had just ten minutes to pay his bill, reach the station and board his train.
"Hang it!" he exclaimed, I've forgotten something. Here, boy, run up to my room—No. 427—and see if I left my pajamas and shaving kit. Hurry, I've only five minutes now."
The boy hurried. In four minutes he returned out of breath.
"Yes, sir," he panted. "You left them."

MABEE SAYS HE'S GETTING ANXIOUS
Roy Mabee, westside rancher and wrestler, in Anaheim today, announced he had been putting in Rome hard training recently on his ranch, with his brother, Jack Mabee, former cowbody.
The wrestler says he is getting anxious for the combat next Tuesday evening at the Grand theater when he has agreed to throw Al Sparkes and Vic Baden, both mat artists of note, twice each within the brief period of 60 minutes.
So far, it's a two to one vote that Mabee can't turn the trick, Baden and Sparkes both voting emphatically negative to Mabee's affirmative.
The double match promises to be one of the biggest drawing cards ever staged here.
A CHEERFUL GIVER
A colored revival was in full blast and one old fellow was exhibiting the people to contribute generously.
"Look what de Lawd's done fo' you-all, bredren!" he shouted.
"Give Him a portion of all you has. Give Him a tenth." A tenth belongs to de Lawd!"
"Amen!" yelled a perspiring member of the congregation, overcome by emotion. "Glory to de Lawd! Give Him mo'. Give Him a twentieth!"
There is no invention we think which has caused quite so much talk as the telephone.
FIGHT OVER STEEPLECHASE
LONDON, June 6.—A hot controversy is raging as to whether the Grand National Steeplechase, proudly designated as the "blue ribbon of steeplechasing," or cross-country horsemanship, the world over, is cruel, barbarous and unsportsmanlike.
The subject is not entirely new, but is raised annually. This year, of 32 starters, three tired animals managed to amble past the winning post, and two more completed the course after falling. Last year, of 30 odd runners, one horse finished alone, winning by a "distance" from two remounted casualties. But this year one horse fell and broke its neck, while another broke a leg and had to be destroyed.
largest is doing over 3400.
The Shell Company of California, the company that has the honor of discovering Signal Hill, is producing more than half the daily output of the field. The Shell Company has wells doing from a 1000 to 3400 barrels and is making a little better than 20,000 barrels of the field's output.
In addition to the half dozen or more new companies that have gone into Long Beach during the past week ten new wells have been located and work on the new wells is underway. The Apex Petroleum Co. has started its No. 2, The Coast States Oil Company is building a rig for No. 2, Geo. F. Getty and Herwick have gone in together on a well and will drill west of the Walter S. Fisher The Henderson Petroleum staked two wells, one adjoining the Helen de L., and one on the Dogge lease. The Holm's Oil Company on the eve of completing its No. 1 has a rig going up for No. 2. The Tehmescal Oil Co. and the Oceanic each have two and three wells respectively underway.
New production at Long Beach was increased 5500 barrels by two wells brought in by the Shell Company. Marcellus No. 1, the biggest well in since the Dobbyns came in at 3300 barrels, 26 gravity. Marcellus 1 was completed at 3310 feet. Cherry Hill No. 1, another gusher stopped drilling at 3355 and started off at 2200 barrels. Cherry Hill 1 has the honor of producing the Hill's highest gravity oil, 27.1.
The Standard Oil Company is doing the deep test work on the east and southeast side of the field and has four wells down over 4600 and three that have reached d 4700 feet, none of them todate showing any oil to speak of. The deep Standard Oil wells at Long Beach have been dubbed the "Chinese tunnels." Alamitos L has reached 4700 feet and is drilling in blue shale. Bixby 2 has passed the 4700 foot mark and is in blue shale. Lomita 1 stands cemented at 4688. The Long Beach Savings and Trust Well of 4685 feet deep. Torrance 1 is at 4585 and drilling.
