SIGNAL HILL HAS ANOTHER GAS WELL
Blowing off all valves and controls the No. 1 well of the Robinson Western Star at Burnett street and Cherry avenue, Long Beach, came in a roaring gasser yesterday, and tonight is still out of control. It was estimated that it is yielding 20,000,000 cubic feet of gas and 500 barrels of oil per day. It is the sixth big gasser to come in on Signal Hill in as many months.
Housing around the Robinson rig prevents the oil spray from drifting toward the residence districts to the south of the oil district, but the drilling area to the north of the well is spattered for several blocks.
Washing out at the 3220 level was carried on at the Robinson yesterday and bailing of the eight-inch had just been started when the well blew out. A control valve was blown out as the gas made its escape. It is several hundred feet deeper than at any other point where gas in heavy volume was found, and about 300 feet deeper than the gas pocket found at the Lakas.

Either 20 or 22 teachers will make the total employed for for this grammar school district this coming term as against 14 for the sessions just closed. Five teachers will be needed at the West End school, which is for the Mexican children, three having handled the work this year. Five teachers will be needed at the West End school, which is for the Mexican Children, three having handled the work this year. Ivan Heaton a local man who has just completed his course at Stanford University this year has been elected principal of this school. The trustees have decided to create a new department for the schools next year, that of music and art. The school closed this year with a graduating class of 27, the largest ever sent forth and it is thought that the enrollment for next September will be enough over the 440 who attended this year to make the commencement of 1923 another record class.
Not only members of the La Habra Woman's Club but the business men and citizens are working enthusiastically this week toward making the community fair and street dance, planned for next Saturday afternoon and evening a great success. The enterprise is for the benefit of the club's building fund. As one big attraction, it has been possible to secure a large radio outfit which will offer free concerts during the afternoon and evening from various broadcasting stations in So. Cal.
Each chairman and her committee seems determined to make her special booth the most attractive and during the afternoon various wares including handicraft and cooked food. The Japanese tea room which Mrs. Fred Drake has in charge will offer dainty refreshments during the afternoon. Lunches will be served by those in charge of the cooked food.
The street between Erna and Central ave on Hyatt-st will be roped off and here the dance will be held in the evening. Whattell's orchestra is to furnish the same muse which plays for the Standard舞es and a raised platform in the middle of this outdoor pavilion will be arranged. The whole place will be brilliantly lighted.
Men of the La Habra Brotherhood listened to the problem of the boy Tuesday night at its regular dinner meeting. The speaker was F. Nellis, superintendent of the state reform school at Whittler. Dialect readings by J. F. Wagg were another feature of the program.
Friends of Mr. and Mrs. J. Evans from La Habra and Los Angeles surprised them Sunday with a picnic dinner. It was to give the newly completed home of the Evans' house warming that the day was arranged. An informal afternoon followed the dinner. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Honey, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Terry and families of Los Angeles, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rogers, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rogers, Mrs. Lida Elder, Mrs. Aubrey Monperplexing one.
