HEAVY CANTALOUPE
SHIPMENTS START
With 30 carloads of cantaloupes leaving the Imperial valley today for the eastern markets, the largest number yet this season, shipments are on in volume. On Sunday seven cars were shipped. None went out yesterday.
Curtailment of shipments of valencias, due principally to competition from cantaloupes and the general policy to keep the market supplied thrust out the year instead of permitting a feast-famine state of affairs, will be continued probably next week and indefinitely. Manager W. H. Scureman of the Anaheim Citrus Fruit Ass'n said today. The same applies to all the associations of the California Fruit Grower's Exchange.
The orange and lemon market still holds up well, lower prices on Orange-co brands, where existing, being due principally to smaller sizes.
