FRIENDS INVITE SELVES TO EDEN HOME LAST NITE A REAL surprise was spring last night when friends and neighbors went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Eden for a jolly reminner of their twentyth wedding anniversary. After the surprise of the visit and congratulations were over, tables were produced and the ever interesting game of five hundred was played for a lengthy time. Prizes were given to both men and ladies, the first going to Mrs. J. A. Planting, second to Mrs. Eden and consolation to Mrs. C. C. Lamb, for the ladies; first to Mr. L. R. Wilson, second, Mr. Eden, and consolation, O. R. Owen, for the men. Mr. and Mrs. Eden were represented with a set of beautiful cups and saucers and a handsome bed spread in honor of the two decades in which they have traveled life's road together. The self-invited guests took lunch on good things with them, which was served after the games. Present were Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Lamb, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Planting, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Owen, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Kaufer, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Dahman, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Wadsworth, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Davis and two children, Alfred and Leah, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Barmes, of Whittier, and Mr. and Mrs. Eden and family. NOTED WOMAN LECTURES SOON W. C. T. She will appear in Santa Ana in the Baptist church Tuesday evening, June 13, in a public lecture. She will speak on her experiences at the Home Clubs Social Happenings CELEBRATE 74TH BIRTHDAY Four years beyond the allotted three-score and ten is the good fortune of Mr. W. A. Ross, senior member of the Orange-co Realty Co., Saturday his sons, their families and a few close friends took basket supper, and hied themselves to Orange-co park for the afternoon and evening. Games and reminiscences of his earlier days were entertainment features among the adults while the children enjoyed themselves on the slides, etc. The bountiful birthday supper was spread at 6:30, and the company returned home at 8:30, wishing many more birthdays may come to the honoree, Mr. Ross. Forming the party were Mr. and Mrs. George M. Ross and son, Donald; Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Ross and children Billy, Leighton and Betty; Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ross and son, Lloyd; Mrs. Jeanette Johnston and Mrs. Kelsey. TEMPLE S. S. BOARD MEETS More than thirty members of the White Temple Sunday school board sat down to a most inviting spread at 6:30 last evening, which was a happy social gathering as well as pleasing to the inner man (and woman). The hostess committee contained Mrs. Bigelow, Mrs. Beck, Mrs. Maltble and Mrs. Gregg. At the business meeting following it was the regretful duty of the board to accept the resignations of several efficient members, among them Mrs. Wesley Wright, enrollment secretary, who, with her husband and her daughter, Miss Mabel Wright, will leave soon on a motor trip through Canada and eastern United States. She will speak on her experiences at the Disarmament conference, where she was one of the four women selected by President Harding on the advisory committee of 21 members of the American delegation. She will discuss municipal wage question and tell some of her experiences as leader in moral and social reforms among women and children. It is quite probable that a goodly representation of Anaheim W. C. T. U's will motor over to hear Mrs. Edson's address. CHRISTIAN EXECUTIVES MEET An executive meeting of the board of the Christian church was held yesterday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Markle. Plans for the coming year were discussed, and particularly interesting are some of the matters which will be furthered upon the arrival of the new minister, Rev. L. L. Myers. A meeting is being held this afternoon when new officers for the year are being chosen. A very busy season is planned, as the proposed new church will be an achievement of the coming year. M. Selover, of Olinda, was performed when she gave a lovely spring announcement shower in compliment to Miss Edith Bemis, who will be one of the early summer brides. A part of the afternoon was passed over five hundred in which Mrs. Howard Brown and Miss Olive Gall were the prize winners. The tables were then arranged for refreshments. The color motif was in pastel shades of pink, blue, yellow and green. Baskets of flowers contenged the tables, each tied with a huge bow to match, one table in pink, one in blue, one in yellow, one in green. Narrow ribbons trailed from the centerpieces to covers, and at the end of each was a tiny silver slipper containing the announcement, "Edith Bemis - Chauncy Eichler, June 22." Place cards, nut cups, refreshments of sundies and fancy cakes, all conformed to the color scheme of each table. Favors were tiny glass flower pots containing colored flowers to correspond. Miss Bobbie Selover, dressed as a fairy, brought numerous mysterious packages to Miss Bemis which contained beautiful articles for her new home. Mrs. Selover was assisted by Mrs. Harold Marsh. The Spicers left Sunday morning at 5:30 by auto for a trip to Kansas by way of Lubbock, Texas, where they will visit en route. The early part of the evening was passed in playing progressive pitch, and later, music was enjoyed. Refreshments of ice cream and cake, candy, with cigars for the men, were served. The guests included the honorees, Mr. and Mrs. Spicer, Mr. and Mrs. Earl-Farwell, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Ripley, of West Anaheim; Mr. and Mrs. Hy House, of El Modina, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Langford, Newport; Mr. and Mrs. "Shortie" Bird, of Orange; Mr. and Mrs. Alex Jamison, of South Santa Ana. GRADUATES FROM S.A.JUNIOR COLLEGE Miss Vesta Newsom, of near Anaheim, is one of the Class of '22 graduating from Santa Ana Junior College. Commencement exercises will be held Thursday evening in the high school auditorium. Miss Newsom is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.V.Newsom, living southwest of Anaheim, and is a member of the Anaheim high school graduating class of 1920. Her former classmates and many friends in Anaheim and Garden Grove, where she also has a wide acquaintance are extending congratulations. COMMUNITY SHOP ONE YEAR OLD The Community Shop on South Los Angeles street will be open tomorrow afternoon, as usual, on Wednesday. The first year of its existence will be rounded out June 15, and a busy, prosperous year it has been.Many a needy family has been provided with clothing and other necessities through the shop at a small sum.The report to be issued soon will give surprising information. There was a discussion on clubhouse plans which are now progressing satisfactorily. PLACENTIA NEWS PLACENTIA, June 6.(Spl.) The Jolly Nine enjoyed a wonderful dinner and a gay evening in the Round Table club rooms on Friday evening.The tables were gay with dainty Cee Bruner roses and the large room was tastefully decorated with baskets or gallardia. After the dinner, all joined in singing old favorite songs for a shoot while then the evening was spent playing 500.High scores were awarded Mrs.Louis Jacoksen and Warren Bradford,with consolation going to Mrs.Knight and Thos M.Fadden.Gay good nights were sailed to the hosts and hostesses,Mr.Ans.Mrs.Dan New and Mr.Ans.Roy Charlton after the singing of "Good Night,Ladies." The barbecue given by the Round Table club on Thursday evening at Thos Strain's hill was quite well tended there being about 100 persons present.A jolly good time was reported by all and a very excellent supporter.The Placentia Round Table held last regular meeting on Wednesday. NEW OFFICERS FOR REBEKAHS The regular meeting of the Rebekah lodge was held Friday when new officers for the latter half of the year were elected. The choice was as follows: Noble grand, Mrs. Frances Scott; vice grand, Mrs. Carrie Booge; recording secretary, Miss Elizabeth Mang; financial secretary, Mrs. Elsa Borth; treasurer, Mrs. Nellie E. Terry; trustee, Mrs. Ida Tipton. The appointive officers will be selected before installation in July. Mrs. Estella Pollard, representative at the recent Rebekah Assembly in Santa Cruz, gave a first report of the meeting. After the meeting sumptuous refreshments were served. CHISPA OFFICERS VISIT All officers of Chispa chapter, O. E. S., went to Buena Park last evening where the initiatory work was given to two candidates for the Buena Park chapter. Short addresses were given by Mrs. J. P. Brastad and Mr. E. H. Metcalf, worthy matron and worthy patron of Chispa chapter. Choice refreshments were served late in the evening to the company, which was well represented from Anaheim, and the almost entire membership of Buena Park. PLAN LONG MOTOR TRIP Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Tobin and family, in their touring car, and Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Schlotter and daughter, in their sedan, leave Monday for a two months' motor trip that is planned to take them as far north as British Columbia. They will take their time, enjoying the scenery and fishing en route. If it's from Witman's it's good. PASTOR'S WIFE IMPROVING Mrs. J. A. Geissinger, who is a surgical patient in the sanitarium, has entirely rallied from the effects of the critical operation performed Friday morning, and slept naturally yesterday and last night. She is responding in a remarkably fine manner and complete recovery is anticipated in the very near future. I. O. O. F. TONIGHT Regular meeting of the local I. O. O. F. will be held this evening at which time a number of candidates will receive the first degree. The semi-annual election of officers will be held, and a large attendance is expected. RUSH WORK UPON ASSN. LABORATORY The new Association Laboratory, for the testing of soils and fertilizers, which is being erected in West Anaheim near the packing houses of the Anaheim Cooperative Orange Assn., and the Anaheim Citrus Fruit Assn., is progressing rapidly and will be finished soon. D. D. Waynick, a grower, is secretary and manager of the laboratory. All associations in the county are backing the project, says W. H. Schureman, manager of the Citrus Fruit Assn.
