MORGE DAIRIES TO FERTILIZE RANCHES
Warning those present that fertilizer is constantly increasing in price, D. Eyman Huff, manager of the Hewes Realty Company, of El Modena, which operates a large ranch, urged at La Habra Saturday that all citrus growers who have considerable ranches have dairies. He said there would be a ready market for the milk and butter produced because of the constantly growing population, while the couws would be a source of fertilizer. The coming in of the tractor and truck have deprived the ranches of manure, he reminded his hearers. He said at least one cow and 100 chickens were necessary for every ranch.
Huff's speech was delivered at the first annual session of the newly organized Southern California Purebred Livestock Association. The central theme was "The Permanence of Agriculture Through the Promotion of Livestock Breeding." There was a barbecue at 12:30 on the arrival of the delegates, the decorations consisting of flowers and labels from the boxes of the D. J. Basturchury ranch. Floyd Scott, assistant farm advisor, presided and introduced the speakers. E. S. Boice, president of the La Habra Businessmen's Association, welcomed the delegates. M. Michaels, president of the association, who is manager of the Santa Monica Dairy Company of Venice, made a few remarks.
Charles W. Campbell of Wilson & Company, Chicago packers, spoke on "The Advantages of Purebred Livestock from a Market Standpoint," and Dr. E. M. Keefe senior veterinary of the State Department of Agriculture, on "Health Regulations."

SHOW SHAVI
Visitors to the Laguna Beach Art Ass'n's tent have been asking themselves whether W. A. Griffith's picture "In the Irvine Pasture" is from a scene on the Irvine ranch beyond Santa Ana. Griffith is one of the most notable painters showing works at the show, and his picture is a lovely creation, depicting a sloping corner of a pasture in spring time, with the lush green in grass and the brown rocks showing.
A game of "Big Six" indoor baseball on cardboards was played yesterday at the O'Brien Novelty Co.'s booth at the local Orange show. Two teams from Fremont school, the Junior Elks and the Shamrocks were represented. Guy Duckworth was the captain of the Junior Elks and Gus Galvin of the Shamrocks. The score was two to one in favor of the Junior Elks. The pitching was remarkable.
Members of Anaheim Ebell have in charge sale of paintings in the Laguna Beach Art Assn., on exhibition at the Orange Show.
Mrs. J. P. Probst and Mrs. A. K. Dahl have sold the only paintings that have been disposed of and they are very happy over these sales, as their commission adds to the funds for the new club house. It also shows what sales women they are.
Help the Ebell ladies by buying a picture at the art exhibit, and remember there is only tonight and tomorrow in which you can make your selection.
Frank P. Taggart is a chesty individual these days, but most anyone would feel elated if they happened to be distributor for the Chevrolet.
Last month Taggart received the news that the months of March and April were peak periods in sales for the Chevrolet. Now he is able to announce that this car is at the top in number of sales that have been made at the Orange show, with 22 purchases since the opening.
"The thing that impresses me in most cases," said Taggart, "is that everybody that visits the booth is thoroughly acquainted with the qualities of the Chevrolet and ready to buy when he makes some call 'em peaches, but they dos. Some call 'em pippins and some peaches, but they're really avocados. E. E. Knight has been spending most of his time giving domestic science lessons to the ladies in front of the booth. This is the fruit that sells at $1.00 a piece and up. We've just ordered a box.
Miss Gloriana and King Valencia have fallen out and turned their backs on each other. We knew that Bathing Girls' revue would cause trouble sooner or later.
Red, white and blue are not confined to the decorations. The caterer’s man has adopted the colors. This chap when he stands still, properly posed, is the nearest resemblance to a wax effigy of anybody we ever saw, on or off the stage.
L. M. Railsback Co. includes a former Anahelmer, Herman F. Locke, who is vice-president and secretary. Locke still has a grove in the county. He says the concern is as much Anahelmer as Angeleno. The company is giving away $75 worth of merchandise tomorrow, on chances drawn each day of the show. That's the only thing connected with their exhibit about which anybody need take a chance, says Locke. Sales include a sprayer to W. T. Davis & Son, sprayment, and a Killefer orchard cultivator to B. M. Yorba of Anaheim.
