THE ORANGE
SHORT SHAVINGS
Miss Anaheim Gloriana still wears that smile that won't come off. The only danger that Miss Gloriana has experienced so far was when the mertopolitan models cast green looks of envy at her. She should worry.
What's a little girl made of? Ask little Miriam Stroup.
The ex-service men's show, under the management of Private H. E. Wooding of Venice, containing relics of the World War, is well worth visiting. The exhibit has been shown at the principal cities of the state. Too bad the Germans have to be shown at their worst, though.
The Ninth Wonder of the World has migrated to a point near Myers Garage.
Yes, there's one $2500 picture and another $700 one at the exhibition of the Laguna Beach Art Assn. The former is that of President Couprlen and the latter the one by Payne.
"They're comin' and comin' and comin'," says P. H. Powers, who succeeded Herman Porner as proprietor of the Square Deal filling station on South Los Angeles street. Powers says he has been noticing a good many touring cars—the big kind that are equipped to travel 1,000 miles or more—passing his place. Travel both to and from San Diego also is heavy.
One timid little miss of five summers bashfully presented her dolly to Mr. Rollo Cornell, official photographer of the Baby Welfare tent, saying: "Here's a baby who wants her picture taken," and carefully placed her treasure in the little chair, then stood back with her head on one side and admiration in her eye, second to no real mother.
A 3½ year red-headed, red-blooded young American who had been photographed, examined and surely rated in high figures, amused himself this morning while awaiting his mother and baby brother, by placing the little chairs all in a row and "trying on" each one in turn. Not a loud sound did he make, not a false movement, but worked like a beaver to accomplish his purpose as though time were precious. He had finished his task when his mother reappeared, and cheerfully took her hand, after one longing look at the train of chairs.
Mr. and Mrs. George Prince motored down from Los Angeles last night to view the Orange Show. They thought it was mighty fine, much better than last year, and were amazed at the magnitude. The tent which houses the Industrial and Automobile exhibits is the largest they ever saw.
The Orange Show was given another boost yesterday when Joe Kustiner, clothier; John O. Reed, orange grower; Harry Horn, grocer; Wm. Dugas, cafe owner, and A. J. Dutton, jeweler, of Anaheim, all driving their Studebaker six touring cars, assisted by three Studebakers from the Paul G. Los Angeles, volunteered the use of their cars and drivers for service in parading thru the Los Angeles business district, carrying a full load of pretty local girls and the young ladies who participated in the Fashion Show last evening, and large banners advertising the Orange Show. The girls distributed several boxes of our beat oranges as they paraded. It was quite an attraction. One of the cars carried an electrical piano, loaned by the Danz Music Co., which was played by Frank Horbach, the popular young realtor.
Harry D. Riley is getting real well acquainted with the justices of the peace in Southern California. One does not have to drive very fast in order to do this little thing, either. (Take it from him.) The excuse he offered was the size and weight or his feet, pressing too hard on the throttle, thereby making his Studebaker big six "step" just a little bit too fast. It cost him $35.00 in Justice Brown's court in Los Angeles for driving over 30 miles an hour on the highway between Norwalk and Santa Fe Springs. Maybe the Judge thought he owned an old well or two. Understand now he's going to start on a diet and reduce, as carrying around a lot of extra weight is rather expensive at times. Too many things on a fellow's mind make him forget to watch his speedometer as closely as he should. He advises his friends to "BEWARE."
Miss Hannah Horowitz of the office of Judge Howard on So. Los Angeles st., has made a pretty little window decoration to adorn the office of her employers during the orange show. It represents a young lady driving a double team of horses to the orange show.
Mrs. Charity M. Remsberg, sister of President Harding, is the most notable visitor perhaps at the show so far. She was invited by personal letter from Managir Malcolm A. Fraser and responded, in her own handwriting, with a cordial note which has been posted upon the walls of the outer office. Fraser offered to send a car for her, but she democratically answered she could use the buss, which passes her house on North Main street, Santa Ana.
Other visitors are N. R. Poweley, division commercial superintendent of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company, with headquarters in Los Angeles, and Prof. Larkin of Mt. Lowe observatory.
The Valencia Hotel is full and overflowing. Would-be guests are being turned away today. Persons intending to come to the show, however, needn't be discouraged, if they will put in reservations ahead of time, because Orange Show guests are only one-day or two-day transients. Yes, business is good.
The friends of Mrs. A. E. Harrogrove are complimenting her on her work in decorating the Realty Board's booth. Forrest F. Fowler of the Hargrove office, also is getting some of the bouquets.

SUCCEEDS WHERE DOCTORS FAIL
Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound Often Does That. —Read Mrs. Miner's Testimony
Churubusco, N.Y.—"I was under the doctor's care for over five years for backache and had no relief from his medicine. One day a neighbor told me about your Vegetable Compound and I took it. It helped me so much that I wish to advise all women to try Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound for female troubles and backache. It is a great help in carrying a child as I have noticed a difference when I didn't take it. I thank you for this medicine and if I ever come to this point again I do not want to be without the Vegetable Compound. I give you permission to publish this letter so that all women can take my advice."—Mrs. FRED MINER, Box 102, Churubusco, N.Y.
It's the same story over again. Women suffer from ailments for years. They try doctors and different medicines, but feel no better. Finally they take Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound and you can see its value in the case of Mrs. Miner.
That's the truth of the matter. If you are suffering from any of the troubles women have, you ought to try this medicine. It can be taken in safety by young or old, as it contains no harmful drugs.
