ANOTHER MOTHER DAY CELEBRATED AT MILLS HOME FAMILY reunion and dinner party occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Mills yesterday in honor of the birthday anniversary of Mrs. Mills. Cecil Bruner roses and ferns were used very generously for decorative effect and the subtle fragrance was also pleasing. A sumptuous dinner was served at 1:30, which was concluded with ice cream and the birthday cake, a lovely big article of pastry ice and trimmed most appropriately. Mrs. Mills was remembered with many pretty gifts, among them several of great value. Covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Curtis, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Davis and little daughter, Miss Irene Mills, Miss Laura Adams, Mr. Clarence Zincke and Mr. Lawrence Mills. Visiting and enjoying music was the afternoon amusement. IS BRINGING BRIDE HOME Anaheim and Fullerton friends of Melvin S. Salverson are eagerly awaiting his arrival home as he is bringing with him his bride of less than a week, who formerly was Miss Alpha Knox, of Santa Ana, and a graduate of University of California; class of '22. The wedding occurred Wednesday afternoon, May 17, after Miss Knox received her B. A. degree from the School of Letters and Science in the morning. The ceremony was performed in the First Presbyterian church of Berkeley, in the presence of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Knox, Miss Zella Darrell and a group of her college friends, Shir wore a beige Crepe Romaine, with hat to match, and carried an arm bouquet of bride's roses and lilies of the valley. The happy couple are now honeymooning in COUNTY CLUB OFFERS PRIVILEGE The Orange County Music Teachers association has made a convenient arrangement for prospective members of the coming year, in that they are privileged to attend the annual state convention which comes in July, in the University of Southern California, provided they present their application for membership at the next meeting. This will be held Tuesday evening in Santa Ana, at the home of Mrs. Arnold Peak, 1425 North Main street, when Earl Meeker, president of the state association, will be present, accompanied by several other musicians. Officers for the coming year will be elected at the short business session opening at 8 o'clock. LADIES NIGHT AT C. OF C. The Associated Chamber of Commerce meeting tomorrow night in the high school will be an especially nice one, as it is Ladies' night, and the wives, sweethearts and friends of the members are all going to be there. Dinner will be served at 6:30. The meeting will be over early enough that all may attend the California Valencia Orange show, thus enjoying two special privileges in one evening. Upon returning Mr. and Mrs. Salveson will be at home to their friends on the ranch near Anaheim. Mr. Salveson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Salveson, of Fullerton, and is well known in both Anaheim and Fullerton. It is a rule of the annual senior women's banquet that all existing engagements are announced, and of the fifty-seven announcements made from a class of 1000 girls, Miss Knox and Mr. Silverson were one. STATE CONVENTION THIS WEEK The State Women’s Christian Temperance Union will meet in annual convention in Glendale this week, opening May 23 and continuing to May 27, inclusive. The local union has selected as delegates Mrs. J. L. Findley and Mrs. Cornelius, both of whom will attend. Mrs. T. H. Walker and Mrs. U. D. Hemml will also be present the greater portion of the time. The program includes many celebrated workers, both men and women, who will address the several sessions. Social features are scheduled for an evening or two, in the way of informal affairs. TWO WEEKS MOTOR JOURNEY Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Smith returned Saturday night from a two weeks motor trip well over California, which took them into the first to San Francisco. After a visit there, they drove to the Big Basin country and enjoyed a fishing trip whirlin they were quite successful. Going on to Yosemite park they made a week stop there, at Camp Curry, during which time they hiked through the snow to Glacier Point. Although they enjoyed a most wonderful outing, they are glad to be again at home, and are now resting in anticipation of another big sight—the California Valencia Orange show. VISITS SISTERS HERE Friends of Henry Morningstar are giving him the glad hand and happily renewing acquaintance after an absence of ten months in which he has been living at Big Bear. He will visit this week with his sisters, Mrs. Jessie Coykendall and Miss Morningstar, and other relatives. PICNIC AT ROCKY POINT Motoring to Rocky Point yesterday, a jolly party passed the day on the sands with several dips in the ocean for variation. A picnic lunchon was a feature of the pleasure, also. Barbecued steaks, buns, salads and coffee were included in the menu, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the hungry crowd after a morning dip. Those participating in the happy affair were Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Brower and Mrs. Nelson, sister of Mrs. Brower, of Houston, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Weaver and three children, Mr. and Mrs. Bartyn Ramella, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Weaver and children, Mrs. Flora Weaver and Floyd Hubbard, making a company of sixteen members. PICNIC WITH CITY FRIENDS Mr. and Mrs. Louis Beck and family and Mr. and Mrs. F. N. Bungay and family went to Long Beach yesterday. There they met friends from Los Angeles and together enjoyed a picnic luncheon in Bixby park. The afternoon was passed in sightseeing about the city. TO CONVENE IN SAN DIEGO THE State Convention of the Congress of Mothers and Parent-Teacher association will be held in San Diego this week, opening Tuesday evening with Father's night. Among the notables scheduled to give addresses this evening are Govor Stephens, Will C. Wood, superintendent of schools, and Mr. Richard, principal of the San Diego schools. The convention proper will open on Wednesday morning at 9:00 in the Civic Auditorium at Balboa Park, and the sessions will continue until Friday. An interesting and instructive course has been outlined for every session. Other features for the week will be the organ recitals, the big supper at La Jolla, and the concerts given by Madam Katherine Tingley, at Point Loma. Mrs. G. H. Goodale will be present at the convention from Anaheim and Mrs. A. Kunzil of Brea, Mrs. Earl Morris, State president of the Congress of Mothers, will be present and also Mrs. John Clarkson, both of Santa Ana. DINNER PARTY SATURDAY Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Dahl entertained on Saturday evening with a pretty appointed dinner party from friends from Santa Ana. Covers were placed for Mr. and Mrs. T. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. George Barrot and Mr. and Mrs. Dahl and family. After the dinner the party enjoyed the show at the California and upon their return home spent a pleasant evening. HOUSE WARMING AND BIRTHDAY INSPIRE PARTY A HOUSE WARMING and birthday party was the incentive for a company of friends and relatives to take Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schindler by surprise Saturday evening. The self-invited guests slipped to the door of the beautiful new Schindler home, on Palm street, and in answer to their ring, were cordially received and happily greeted. After congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Schindler on their pretty abode and to Mr. Schindler for having attained his 'steenth birthday', tables were produced and the interesting game of five hundred began, five tables being filled. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Joe Stroup, first; Mrs Wm. Lake, second; Mrs Mauer, third and Mrs Wycoff, consolation, for the ladies, and to Mr. Henry Schindler, first; Mr. George Huber, second; Mr. Frank Tausch, thirta, and Mr. Wm. Lake, consolation. The visitors had thoughtfully carried lunchon aloha and this was spread on the small tables late in the evening. A tour of inspection of the pretty new home was a pleasant feature of the evening. Schmidt Music store will stage an event wherein the public will be given a chance to win three valuable musical instruments and to receive 3000 copies of sheet music free. At 7 o'clock in the evening of Tuesday, May 30, the last day of the show, Mr. Schmidt will wind up one of the powerful motors in a Brunswick Phonograph and leave it running until it stops of its own accord. The persons who guess most closely the number of revolutions it turns in one winding will receive the prizes, first, a Brunswick phonograph; second, a Stradivarius model violin; third, a Koa ukulele. Only one guess will be allowed to a family and the motor will not be wound until the close of the orange show, at 7 o'clock, so the first thing after leaving the tent late in the afternoon or just before entering on the final night, it will be well to turn attention to the matter of "motoring in a Brunswick." Mrs.Sadie Brooks, of Minneapolis is the guest for a few days of Ms.E.M.Schlotter, Mrs.Brooks is touring California and took the opportunity to attend the orange show and visit her friend at the same time.She intends visiting the Yellowstone park on her homeward trip, which will some time in July.
