One of the most important new routes to be completed and ready for use today, according to the Auto Club of So. Cal., is the section of highway between Lancaster and Mohave on the inland trunk line which connects the Mexican boundary with the Inland points north. Hunters and fishermen who have occasion to tour north or south will welcome this news, as it means the elimination of that very bad stretch of road which caused many motor parties to give up camping trips last summer. The completed boulevard is 25 miles in length and effects the entire motoring body of So. Cal. An Auto club scout car just completed the trip from the Mexican border to Ensenada over the 90 mile route which was washed out last winter. According to the club's touring bureau, this road is now open to travel for those who wish to explore Mexico below the line. It will cost the party from five to fifteen dollars in tax to get out of Tia Juana. The road is not yet in first-class condition, but work is being rushed on it, as the Mexican authorities expect heavy travel down the coast this summer, says the Auto club. This route parallels the coast for 80 miles, and is more picturesque than the European Riviera, according to reports brought from Mexico. Vacationists will find Big Bear valley open via all routes by the end of this month. You can get in at the present time by way of the desert. M. ELTISTE & CO. SETS HIGH MARK Orange county can boast of having a farm tractor from which carried off national honors for having sold more International tractors than any other firm in this line in the United States. The firm refers to M. Eltiste and company of Orange, which has business branches at Santa Ana and Fullerton. Nearly a quarter of a million dollars worth of International tractors were sold by this firm since December last, which explains why the International Harvester company of Chicago paid for a banquet at Saint Anne's Inn recently in celebration of the big work accomplished in Orange county. Now, the Chicago office has never pursed holding for the biggest record to be made by any district agency selling the largest amount of international products, and the Southern California agency at Los Angeles, which includes Arizona territory, expects to carry off the honors and win the purse. The Eltiste house will play a big part in helping to win the prize. From February 3 to May 1, the Eltiste concern has sold 71 International tractors, aside from a large stock of other International products. Germany Now Buying MUCH OF INTEREST AT BEACHES NOW "Redondo, where the breezes blow." Here we have thus briefly expressed a slogan which has been employed for years with almost magical success by this charming beach city in its appeal to summer visitors. "The call of the open road" has its answer ever ready at Redondo, according to the inhabitants there, and the hundreds of persons engaged in catering to the whims and foibles of summer visitors. Winter and summer alike, Redondo is a spot that exerts a strong appeal to those who appreciate scenic splendors and from the cliffs there one obtains a matchless view of the ocean with Catalina in the distance and beautiful Los Palos Verdes to the south. Coast Road Plan Encircling Los Palos Verdes some day soon there will be built a link of the great highway system of California which, it is predicted, will result in quickly dotting the San Pedro hills with some of the finest residences on the Pacific Coast. This link in the coast highway system will open to visitors places now practically isolated, such as Malaga Cove, Flat Rock, Rocky Point, Resort Point, Point Vincentee, Portuguese Bend with its long whaling station, and other interesting spots along the rugged cliffs. All roads lead to Redondo, as is attested by the fact that Riverside boasts one, Long Beach another, the beach cities north of Santa Monica another and Los Angeles several of them. Bell Cord Tires Are In Maximum Oversize The Bell cord tires distributed by the Reliable Tire Co., at 147 Los Angeles street, are built the new maximum standard oversize. The new method of assembling or construction is the same as for fabric tires, with the exception that cord fabric is used instead of the square woven tire fabric, which makes the cord tire livelier than fabric tires. Cord tires will coast farther and require less power in running, than fabric, as well as being an easier hurry? Think when you have mud or water. Remain at the crossings. Germany Now Buying Bonds With Low Marks Many large industries and cities of Germany are making millions by buying up their own bonds with the present cheap money with the idea of relieving themselves of bonded indebtedness before the mark returns to too high a rate. Before the war, a 1000-mark bond sold for $238. Then Germany's paper money circulation was two billion marks with gold reserve of one and one-half billion. Now Germany has 130 billion paper marks and about one billion gold reserve. It is easy to understand why they are now buying them with $5 to $10 per 100 marks instead of writing until they are due and paying $238. The German government has already cancelled 62 billion marks of war bonds, one-third internal war debt. It would seem then that this is an inopportune time for American holders of German bonds to let them go. Germans are in the market for their own bonds, it is pretty good evidence they are looking for early and large increases in their value. In Maximum Oversize The Bell cord tires distributed by the Reliable Tire Co., at 147 Los Angeles street, are built the new maximum standard oversize. The new method of assembling or construction is the same as for fabric tires, with the exception that cord fabric is used instead of the square woven tire fabric, which makes the cord tire livelier than fabric tires. Cord tires will coast farther and require less power in running, than fabric, as well as being an easier riding and longer lasting tire. The cord fabric used in the construction of Bell cord tires is of special size and pick, being built under our own factory specifications by the mills, and has proven superior to other cord fabric. Cord fabric is just what the name implies. It is different from the square fabric, in that it consists of heavier, more tightly twisted parallel cords. They are not square woven together, but have a lock stitch of thread upheld in shape while building the carcass of the tire. This cord fabric is put in the tire layer on layer, each separate layer or ply running at right angles. This gives the great strength, or yet more elasticity. The friction that is used in the Bell cord tires has been tested for many months to stand the constant stretch that is necessary to keep the perfect union in the flexible cord construction. It has the stretch and strength to expand and contract with the rest of the tire. A special, extra heavy cushion is used in the construction of Bell cord tires which properly distributes the shock and works in harmony with the breaker strip as a protector to the crease of the tire. The breaker strip serves the same purpose in the cord tire as in a fabric tire. The tread used on the Bell has proven, after many months of experiments and tests, that it will stand an unlimited amount of hard usage on any kind of road, the quality being such that under perfect alignment the minimum service to be rendered from the tread of any Bell cord tire, regardless of size, is 1200 miles. In addition to the superior construction of Bell cord tires, it is an aristocratic in appearance, and adds THE ORANGE COUNTY PLAIN DEALER, ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA ANNOUCH To the patrons of the Stanley Buick Co. cinity: I have recently purchased from Lemon, and in the future will call it the Myers Mr. Motorist, I come to you with over to serve you INTELLIGENTLY, EFFE mechanic myself of 18 years’ experience working for me and know when the t the most essential requisites of a succe edge of how to discriminate between g tires, batteries, accessories and equipm I am surrounding myself with the best foreman of the Buiek Shop in Pasadena, Shore Motor School of Chicago, Ill., is Myers, who has had ten years experienc We expect to specialize on contract w do it by the hour. And a truck with pneumatic tires also can carry just as heavy a load as one with solid rubber tires. Faster than the solid-rubber tired truck, the pneumatic-tired vehicle will save the rancher many hours and dollars in transportation costs even on his own ranch. Carl Anderson, of Byron, California, says: "I have been a farmer all my life, and I have never been able to haul so quickly, safely and economically as on Goodyear cords. Hogs don’t die on the road any more. I carry three times as much produce as a team can haul in a day in one truck, and I have also carried 10 per cent more than a solid rubber tired truck of greater capacity." One truck on Goodyear cords saves the expense of six horses, says Anderson, leaving more than 30 acres to devote to food crops and eliminating the need of two drivers and three wagons. The pneumatic-tired truck negotiates the grades in sun and rain as sure as the sun rises. He never has had his truck laid up for repairs, except once, and that was after an accident. His Goodyear cord tires have furnished him 15,127 miles of service at one half per cent per tire per mile.
