NEARLY $350,000 DALEY STOCK SOLD The $350,000 sale of common stock of The Federal Grocery Co. owning and controlling Daley's chain of neighborhood grocery stores, now approaching a successful conclusion, is reflected in a greatly increased activity in the manufacturing plant of the company located at the warehouse headquarters, 732 Terminal-st., Los Angeles. Only a few units of the stock remain unsold, and it is expected that the issue will be withdrawn entirely June 1st. The installation of new machinery, the organization of new departments to facilitate production and distribution, the putting into operation of a fleet of new trucks, the employment of additional help—all together has made necessary a complete re-arrangement of the factory. Shipping facilities have been bettered, and efficiency has attained a high mark in the regular supply of freshly made merchandise to the store units. Visitors to the plant has been impressed by all these things. Complete equipment for the preserving and putting up of a complete line of jams, jellies and preserves has been placed. The "wheels will begin turning" in this new department within a week. Another blend of coffee has been added to the "Daleys" line, called "Daley's Hotel Blend" to supply a demand for a medium priced coffee of a good quality. A new Burna Roaster with a capacity of 3000 lbs. daily has just beer installed. Aluminum premiums will be given with this new coffee to help popularize it. Mr. Daley the president of the organization does not believe in premiums to sell it, placing quality above all other things to build a permanent business on any of his manufactured items. Dr. C. A. Rauscher, manufacturing chemist for 15 years with the Edward Western Tea & Spice Co., of St. Louis, a big central states concern, has been engaged to superintend the manufacture of all Daley's products. On his tents and experiments will be built the foundation of all manufactured goods. Mr. L. S. Hollensbe has been added to the Daleys forces in the capacity of sales manager. For 14 years department manager for a big New York concern, the Jones Bros. Tea Co. with a distributing organization of 182 units. Daley's Neighborhood Groceries may consider themselves FOIX NO. 1 NEXT SANTA FE GUSHER With Oil Operators Santa Fe Springs will get its next big gusher when the Petroleum Midway quit drilling on the Foix well and brings it in. Foix No. 1 at 3555 set the 8½ at 3490 and on drilling out the cement encountered—a tremendous gas pressure. It was with great difficulty that the well was mudded up so that drilling could continue. Indications from the amount of gas and oil showed during the mudding up process would warrant the prediction of a big producer. Core samples taken by the Amalgamated Oil Co. at Dallugge No. 1 show oil at 4150 feet. It begins to look as though the Dallugge property is good for a lot of deep producers. The south side of the Santa Fe Springs got a real boost when the General Petroleum Springs No. 1 showed oil in quantity at 3900 feet. Up to this time the best that this well has shown was 2 lot or gas. Santa Fe No. 4 flowed some oil and some water at 3710. The big wall of the field is still in the hands of the General Petroleum, Santa Fe No. 1. This giant producer produces 4250 barrels without any special effort. The extreme north side of the field is beginning to look encouraging with NEW TODAY WANTED—Serving girl range Show Cafeteria at FOR SALE—Pointer Plymouth Rock hens. 21 FOR RENT—2-room suitable for light housekeeper 161-J after 5 p.m. WANTED—Young man station in composing dealer. BIG CROWD HEARS FAMOUS LECTURER The largest crowd yet in attendance filled the great Chautauqua author and lecturer, Ople Read. His sallies of wit, the story of his experiences as reporter under the great editor, Henry Watterson, and his genial whole-souled philosophy delighted the appreciative audience. The program tonight will be given by the New York players who will put on the play, "Cappy Ricks." This is a dramatization of Peter B. Kynes' famous Saturday Evening Post stoley in a clean delightful day. American to the core, "Cappy Ricks" is an old retired sea captain who achieves great success in the shipping business. Captain Matty, a young man, enters into competition with "Cappy Ricks" in the shipping business. The story revolves around the strife of these two men. In the end the two become partners and the young man marries "Cappy Ricks'" daughter. The lecture tomorrow night will be delivered by Elmer Lynn Williams, of Chicago, and will deal with the cleaning of service conditions. Copeland, Commissioner of Health of the City of New York. Dr. Copeland said there was no reason why every man and woman in the country should not live to be 100. "The chief offenders in wring living are business and professional men," Dr. Copeland says. Make up your mind to do your duty towards yourself by daily exercises. Many business men work hard at their desks all week long and then take a week end and play 8 or 10 sets of tennis on Saturday and Sunday and wonder why they feel poorly the next week. Many business men work hard at their desks all week long and then take a week end and play 8 or 10 sets of tennis on Saturday and Sunday and wonder why they feel poorly the next week. Daily exercise is the panacea for what ails you. Make it an everyday affair. Take this advice, even though I don't set a good example myself. "I weigh more than I should. Multiply the number of inches you stand over 5 feet by 6 and add 110 pounds, and you will get what your correct weight should be.
