URGE SUPPORT OF WRIGHT MEASURE Resolutions emphatically endorsing the Wright prohibition enforcement measure and calling upon church people throut the county to register and vote, if citizens, for the bill, are pending at the annual County Sunday School convention of the Evangelical denominations in session today at the First Baptist Church. The resolutions undoubtedly will be passed unanimously, it was stated by Rev. Otto Russell, pastor of the church, this afternoon. The resolutions will follow an address by Rev. Secretary W. A. Brown of the Board of Missions, who analyzed the bill at the lunchon today and urged active support of it. Rev. Mr. Brown pointed out the futility of federal laws without State cooperation and backing, and showed the effects of the Wright bill. The State Sunday School Association has gotten back of the bill similarly, and it is understood campaigns like that in Orange County will be conducted in every county in the State. In addition to the special conferences, which took place this morning and are going on this afternoon, there will be an address this afternoon by Dr. M. A. Hosline on "The Place of the Child in Religious Education," remarks by Hugh C. Gibson, Secretary of the State Sundal School Association, on the annual convention in Kansas City in June; and an address by Rev. W.A. Brown on "The Sunday School and Christianity." Tonight Rev. Mr. Brown will speak on "The Place of the Bible in Religious Education." The convention will close tonight, after sessions which have been considerably better-attended than usual. THE JOSEPH STORES COMPANY ANAHEIM THE ORANGE COUNTY PLAIN DEALER, ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA AMAL, TAKES OVER PLACENTIA-PACIFIC The Amalgamated Oil Co. has taken over the Placentia-Pacific and work is under way there now in a manner that looks like results soon. The Placentia-Pacific Oil Company was compelled to abandon the well about 8 months ago on account of not having sufficient funds to go ahead with the work. The Amalgamated will redrill and deepen from 3800 feet on and it is believed that at 4200 feet a new well and a new field will be opened up in the Richfield district. Richfield has not escaped the unit seller. The old Bradford Bros. property developed by the Petroleum Development Company (Santa Fe) was purchased some time ago and has been cut up into lots. The tract contains 41 acres and has been divided into 4800 lots. According to the present production of the Bradford Bros. property each lot holder will get a few quarts more than two barrels a year. The announcement that the Placentia Oil Company has been reorganized and has refinanced itself will be pleasant news to many who have money in this company, no doubt. The management feel that as soon as the water can be shut off a commercial producer is assured. All efforts will be confined to shutting off the water. The Richfield-Yorba well failed to make a commercial producer at 3447 and Niel Anderson the man who recently took this well over to put it on production has decided to drill it deeper. Located within a stone throw of some of the big wells at Richfield there seems to be great possibilities for the Richfield-Yorba in the hands of a capable operator. The well has fallen into the hands of a capable operator and results will be forth coming in a few weeks. Deep test work at Richfield is now centered on the outcome of the Standard Oil Company's Kellogg No. 2 now drilling at 5200. Drilling is now in a hard shell. Under this hard shell may be the deep Capacity Audience Hears Psychologist Stating the 125,000,000 persons are studying psychology in its various phases, Madame T. W. W. Makara, an expert psycho-analyst, spoke to a capacity audience in Odd Fellows hall last evening. Her address consumed three-quarters of an hour in which she gave a concise outline of the science of psychology. A native of Switzerland, Madame Makara spoke with characteristic conviction, and greatly impressed her audience. Mrs. Jane A. Schully, also a psycho-anlyist, has a charming soprano voice and sang four numbers "The Star," by Rogers; "Il Bachio" (The Kliss) by Arditi; "Bob o' Link and Wren," by Bennett; "Sweet Little Woman of Mine," by Bartlett, most beautifully and was ably accompanied by Miss Helen Wishard, of Fullerton, on the piano. Madame Makara's subject tonight is the key to health—smile, smile; the scientific effect of peace, poise and laughter explained. Trade Artesia Ranch For Placentia Place Henry Bowser of Los Angeles-co traded his five-acre ranch in the neighborhood of Artesia yesterday for property in Placentia owned by Mr. E. W. Lough. The consideration of both properties was $15,000. Mr. Bowser will take possession of the Placentia property and move in at once. Mr. Lough with his family will move to the ranch. The deal was consummated by S. M. Kistler, house manager with the James E. Stewart Realty Co., 236 West Center-st, Anaheim. MAKES GASSER OF HUNTINGTON E-5 The Standard Oil Co., will make a gas well out of Huntington E-5. This well created a little excitement by blowing out and partially wrecking the rig and equipment. The well is capable of producing about eight million feet of gas and will make a valuable commercial gas producer. The Interstate Oil Co. is about to put the old Bolsa Chica Oil Co. on the dividend basis. A few months ago the Interstate Oil Co. took over the properties and holdings of the Bolsa Chica Oil Co. and proceeded to make something out of them. The Interstate has Augur No. 2 in the oil sand at 2655 and the well looks exceptionally good. The Republic Petroleum Co., has started drilling on its 4th well at Huntington Beach. No. 4 formerly known as the Triangle Oil and Refining Co. is located a little west of the famous Rio Bravo Irish and there is every reason to believe that the Republic will get a duplicate. The Sun Oil Company made preparations for a big well at No. 5 recently completed at 2853. Indications were a little misleading it seems. This well did not come up to expectations in that it is doing from 300 to 500 barrels. The production has been coming by heads. The Fullerton Oil Co. will determine whether or not a deep sand underlies the old Brea field. The Fullerton has No. 14 now drilling at 4685 and intends to go to 4700 feet. Brea field production has been coming from the 3200 to 4200 foot level, the Fullerton well will test out deep sand possibilities, and in the event something is found a lot of new development will be forthcoming in this old field. The Federal Drilling Company has resumed operations on the Dolke-Thomas Syndicate. At 1786 a string of drill pipe was lost and the recovery hinged on securing a left hand fishing string. This fishing string is now on hand and the hole will be cleaned in a few days. The Dolke-Thomas has had an eventful career from the start. CONSTRUCTION OF AN AMPLIFYING TRANSFORMER Measurements of core iron: Side legs %x2%; end legs %x1¼. The strips are cut from 28 gauge black enameled stove pipe iron, each leg contains 50 pieces. After the laminations have been cut they should be given a heavy coat of shellac and spread out to dry. For the windings two yard coil secondarys are used. One secondary is unwrapped until seven layers remain. This constitutes the primary. Next take enough wire from the inside of the second coil so that it fits snugly over the primary, then unwrap until 21 layers remain. To complete the transformer slip the sec. over, the pri. and mount on core. In order to get any kind of results from this transformer the core must be clamped tightly. I have recently completed a transformer of this design and find that in operation it equals some of the best transformers on the market. The core and the clamps are the most important parts of the transformer; make these as heavy as possible without increasing the bulk of the transformer too much. HINTS If your amplifiers howl, try reversing the primary leads of the transformers. Double phone horns are inefficient; use a single phone horn for the greatest volume. STRIKING MINERS DYNAMITE MINE PITTSBURG, May 12.—The drift mine of J. H. Peterman at North Bessemer, 12 miles from here, was dynamized and badly wrecked early today, according to reports received at the sheriff's office. The report said that a band of 75 to 100 men had marched on the mine shortly after dawn and placed a very heavy charge of explosive in the workings. According to word received by Sheriff Robert Woodside, the marching miners were roaming about the countryside and threatening to dynamite other mines. Two auto loads of deputies have been rushed to overtake the marchers and disperse them. The Peterman mine has been closed since the srjike began. No one was injured by the explosion, first reports said. Plain Dealer for Good Job Printing.
