SPORT ANAHEIM BOWLERS BREAK INTO L. A. PAPER HEADLINES Anaheim bowlers didn't raise much smoke in the five-men events at the Pacific Coast Bowling Congress on the Angelus Alleys, Los Angeles but in the singles, oh, boy! Efker and Karam were responsible for some mighty favorable publicity for the old berg on the sporting pages of uptown newspapers today. The Times carried a six-column heading: "Anaheim Pin Punisher Features Day's Play in Bowling Tourney—Karam leads in singles—Anaheim Rolling Star Shows Great Work in P. C. B. C., at Angelus Alleys." All of which sounds mighty good to local bowling fans. Efker, of the Dugas & Myre team, was the first to attract attention to Anaheim when bowling in the 12 o'clock squad yesterday he turned in a score of 585. This was immediately announced as the high mark of the tournament. But it didn't stand long. Karam, shooting with the 1:30 squad, toppled them for a score of 620. WOMAN BURNED BY FLAMING MATCHES GARDEN GROVE, May 6.—(Spl.) Mrs. G. E. Mansperger Monday suffered from minor burns about the face, chest and hands, as the result of an accident when a new box of matches which she was opening, suddenly ignited. When the entire box of matches which she was holding caught fire and flamed about here, Mrs. Mansperger picked up a towel and wrapped it around the parts of her clothing which had become ignited. The flames were immediately extinguished. Mrs. Mansperger was slightly burned about the face and chest and has a severely burned finger. A popular young bride-elect, Miss Edith McConnell, who will become the wife of Everett Hale, the early part of June was honored with a delightful miscellaneous shower, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. WHAT ON A CITY LOT WILL DANY NEW BUNGS VENIENCES AND SET TO ONE AND SAVE PROVIDE A NICE ELKS WILL FACE FAST TEAM SUNDAY Anaheim Elks will be up against one of the best teams they have faced this season when they play the first of a three game series with the Cox-Haas team of Pasadena at the Anaheim high school field Sunday. CHARLES CHAPLIN AT THE CALIFORNIA Oh boy! And then some! Charles Chaplin, he of the elongated feet and dinky mustache is coming to town tomorrow in his latest and most humorous grin-povoker "Pay Day". Yep, he's coming to the California for a limited time, and maybe the fans won't turn out! It is not often any more that Anaheim folks are accorded the privilege of witnessing the Chaplin pictures, because he only makes a production once in a while, and in the mean time his admirers must wait. However "Pay Day" is a riot from the start to the finish, and according to reports from Los Angeles where appeared in this picture at the Kinemata theater, the people voted the play a knockout. ERANZ DEALTY CO which she was holding caught fire and flamed about here, Mrs. Mansperger picked up a towel and wrapped it around the parts of her clothing which had become ignited. The flames were immediately extinguished. Mrs. Mansperger was slightly burned about the face and chest and has a severely burned finger. A popular young bride-elect, Miss Edith McConnell, who will become the wife of Everett Hale, the early part of June was honored with a delightful miscellaneous shower, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McConnell, on West Ocean ave., Tuesday evening. Games and music was the diversion of the evening, after which delicious refreshments were served. The guests included: Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Pollins, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Moon, Mr. and Mrs. John Gibson, Mrs. Wm. Blodgett, Mrs. G. L. Beardsley, Mrs. Ernest Arrowsmith, Mrs. H. A. Lake, Mrs. J. B. Hale, Misses Clara and Ruth Lott, Julia Magill, Isabel Northcross, Eva and Myra Lake, and Milred Harper, Everett and Robert Hale and Mr. and Mrs. Gorman of Anaheim. Mrs. Wayne was hostess to the members of Sewing Club at her home in the northeast part of town Monday afternoon. At the close of the afternoon delicious refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. Cranston Tyler and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Adams of Santa Ana motored to Laguna Beach Sunday. Mrs. Geo. Royburn attended a meeting and banquet of the Second Travel Section of the Ebell club in Santa Ana, Monday afternoon, at the St. Ann's Inn. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Lakb accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Bowers of Santa Ana, motored to Imperial Valley, Friday, returning home Sunday. Mr. Lake reports the crops outlook bright in the valley. The following relatives visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Crane Sunday; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Crane of Santa Ana, Mr. and Mrs.W.H Parker and son, Paul of Pomona, Everett Crane and family and Earl Crane and family of Van Nuys, and Mrs. and Mrs.Lloyd Crane and three children of Garden Grove. At the Anti-Narcotic contest held during the Sunday school hour at the Baptist church Sunday morning, the prize, a silver medal was awarded Lawrence Mansperger. The following young folks enjoyed grunion fishing at Naples Saturday evening: Mrs.Etta Marsh and daughter Marion and Marie.Zula and Ulah Hapes,Madina Oden,Violet and Buddle Stromer,Ralph Graves Jack Spurlock,John Chambers,Mr. and Mrs.Edgar Bowles, and Mr.W.E Stromer. BUTTER Fresh extras Case count Cheese Hens under 3½ pullets Hens, 3¼ lbs., per lb. Hens, coiled, per lb. Broilers, 1 to 1 Broilers, 1½ to Ersers, 2½ lbs.. ker "Pay Day". Yep, he's coming to the California for a limited time, and maybe the fans won't turn out! It is not often any more that Anaheim folks are accorded the privilege of witnessing the Chaplin pictures, because he only makes a production once in a while, and in the mean time his admirers must wait. However "Pay Day" is a riot from the start to the finish, and according to reports from Los Angeles where appeared in this picture at the Kineema theater, the people voted the play a knockout. When one sums it all up, there is no other person before the camera today who can vie with the inimitable Charlie. He can be rightly regarded as the "monarch of mirth." His current picture is laid around the troubles of a laboring man who is working for a small salary, and who has a hen-pecking, grasping wife, who desires to confiscate that salary as soon as it is received. The picture is a gem. Supporting Charlie are Edna Purviance and Mack Swain, as well as other well known players. Included upon the same program at the California will be Hobart Bosworth in "The Sea Lion," a powerful feature play. The two pictures together make a wonderful show, so ever one who anticipates coming to the California should be on deck early, to say the least. LEMON GLASS HOLDER To protect the fingers from stains a glass holder for a half lemon from which the juice is to be extracted has been invented. At the Anti-Narcotic contest held during the Sunday school hour at the Baptist church Sunday morning, the prize, a silver medal was awarded Lawrence Manperger. The following young folks enjoyed grunion fishing at Naples Saturday evening: Mrs. Etta Marsh and daughters Marion and Marie, Zula and Ulah Hapes, Madina Oden, Violet and Buddle Stromer, Ralph Graves, Jack Spurlock, John Chambers, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Bowles, and Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Stromer. FRANZ REALTY CO. SELLS $40,000 LOTS The Franz Realty Co. has sold over $40,000 of lots to Anaheim citizens.
