ELECTRICAL MEN AT DINNER LAST NIGHT
More than 100 members and guests of the Orange County Electrical Contractors and Dealers were present last night at a dinner in St. Ann's Inn, Santa Ann, including various Anaheimers.
Prudence Penny, who is connected with a Los Angeles newspaper, spoke on the relations between the contractor-dealer and the housewife. She said that the latter should be sold on an idea, rather than on the mechanics of a device which she didn't understand.
Dave Peirce of the Illinois Electrical Company of Santa Ana, predicted that the period beginning 20 years hence would be known as the electrical age, and said the dealers must have visions to prepare for it. Electricity now is no longer a mediocre business, but a profession, he declared.
Freeman H. Bloodgood, president of the Santa Ana Reality Board, pointed out what he regarded as one big fault of the business, in that men selected to make installments in houses often were not of the right personality.
Maurice Phillips sang and Carson Smith gave stories in negro dialect.
C. O. Gaffney of Santa Ana presided.
GOOD CHEER PROVES GOOD MEDICINE
LONDON, May 4—Effect of cheer, and especially of good news, upon the health of patients is being experimented extensively and with striking success at the great Kings' College hospital here.
Some of the results of the experiments tried are astonishing.
The origin of what might be called the "human sympathy department" of the hospital is said to have grown out of some experiences which developed during the war. Wounded soldiers under the charge of one set of medical men were observed to show good results very frequently if good news reached them either from the front or from their homes.
Some clever British medical man made a note of this. Unfortunately his name has not been preserved.
