SPORT LOCAL FRESHMEN LOSE TO FULLERTON The local Freshmen lost to the Fullerton Freshmen last evening in a field and track meet on the neighborhood oval, to the tune of 52 to 33. With Howe and Holden absent, Anaheim did not have much of a chance to win the meet. The local team took five firsts. The local boys made some good records and another year of practice should develop some stars. Barnett proved to be the mainstay of the meet, taking first in both the low and high hurdles, first in the discus, and third in the 440. He is cut out for a star and great things are to be expected from him in his third and fourth year. Dahiman proved to be a winning man, as he took first in the high jump and first in the pole vault: YUNGBLUTHS BEAT DEW DROP BOWLERS Yungbluths took the Dew Drops into camp last night by the score of 2335 to 2188, while Faning Candy Co. defeated Buicka 2451 to 2374. Dugas was high A single with 200 and series with 552. Yoern was high B single with 213 and high series with 565. Barnesby was high C series with 513 and W. Schneider high single with 205. The trouble is too much water in all streams as a result of the heavy snowfall and late spring. Charles Eygabroad reported that of more than 100 anglers on the San Antonio not a strike was reported. MORE BURGLARIES REPORTED HERE The Gatti Meat Co. and the East Side Grocery were entered last night in the skylight by a burghir who stole $42 and a ham, it was stated today. The money was taken from the cash register of the Grocery, and the ham of meat from the other place. It is not known how he got out with his spoils. The case was reported to the police, who as yet have been unable to find either the burglar, the money or the meat. W. J. Heinz reported to the police today that a big Mexican had robbed his house at 525 So. West-street yesterday afternoon in broad daylight, getting away with quite a lot of jewelry as spoils. The things taken included a cameo ring, a caeme necklace, an agate ring, an Elk's pin, with a small diamond and platinum-washed rim; a sorority pin, with "A." and name "Louise Denton" on the back; a pocket-book and a peri-handled pen knife. Two of the smaller purses which were in the larger purse stolen from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Narath on No. Lemon-st in the burglary Sunday night were found in the yard of Oscar Conklin, where the burglar had evidently thrown them. They contained the trunk keys. The tickets to Denver belonging to Mr. Narath's mother were not found. MORE STREETS ARE OILED THIS YEAR The growth of the city is seen in the larger areas of streets being oiled and sanded this year against dust than last, according to city officials. Many of the side streets off Center and Los Angeles streets are receiving a coat of the light grade road oil. One coat as a rule is being applied, because most of these thorofares were oiled within the past six months. The nature of the pavement and the soil and extent of usage determine whether one coat or two is applied. Red and his Angels have not been setting the world afire in the art of baseball, so they jumped on the umpire to create some notoriety. Umpires are human, and are subject to making mistakes, but what good does it do for a ball player to raise a rumpus over a decision. An umpire will not change his decision on balls and strikes and very seldom on other plays, yet some players will haggle and kick on every close decision. And there is a certain rough neck element in every gathering of fans that will join in and enjoy the poor sportsmanship of umpire ragging. In other walks of life we find the same class, knockers and kickers on every decision that does not especially favor them. Any cheap skate con criticize but it takes a man to take an adverse decision and make the better of it. We like to see a ball team or any one stand up for a square deal, but we also love to watch a man big enough to not fuss and fume over things that are not just to his liking. As ever—SARGUM SPROUT.
