SURPRISE WELL AT HUNTINGTON BEACH
With Oil Operators
Every field has its surprises. Huntington Beach had one a few days ago when the Malls-Aldhal well came in flowing at the rate of 500 barrels. This well had a checkered career and has been almost two years in getting into the pay. It started off as the Huntington-Coaling, later became the Mains Aldhad. George Putman and Frank Blake took the well out of the sheriff's hands a few months ago, dug the pipe and jank out of the hole and put in production condition. At the time Putman and Blake took the well over it looked hopeless. However these two men knew their business and were rewarded with a 500 barrel well.
An oil deal of importance was consummated last week when the Hurst Oil Syndicate took over the property and holdings of the Mercalf-Hinkley Oil Company. Mercalf-Hinkley No. 1 has been standing idle for almost a year, the former owners never being able to accomplish a water shut-off. This well will now be known as Hurst Syndicate No. 4.
The Rhoades Oil Company has delivered the goods for the south-west side of the field by bringing in a 300 barrel well at No. 1. This well was a small producer at 2300. Rhodes believed that the Bolsa sand could be reached by going deeper. Drilling to 2835 Rhoads it seems got what he was looking for. The new well is increasing rapidly on production and the oil is cleaning up nicely.
The Standard Oil Company has the honor of abandoning the second well in the Huntington Beach field. Surf No. 1 while it cannot be considered a dry hole was not a commercial producer. The well made a few barrels a day of very heavy oil. The first well to be abandoned as dry was the General Petroleum's Community No. 1 drilled to 4400 ft.
There is a possibility of the West Seaboard Oil Company getting a commercial producer out of the old Ventura well. Drilled to 4082 feet this place YOUR CLASSIFIED ADS BEFORE 13,000 READERS.

The Standard Oil Company has the honor of abandoning the second well in the Huntington Beach field. Surf No. 1 while it cannot be confined a dry hole was not a commercial producer. The well made a few barrels a day of very heavy oil. The first well to be abandoned as dry was the General Petroleum's Community No. 1 drilled to 4400 ft.
There is a possibility of the West Seaboard Oil Company getting a commercial producer out of the old Ventura well. Drilled to 4082 feet this well started to make a little production a few days ago. As yet the best that the well is doing is a little oil and mud. It is thought that he will gradually clean itself out and come into production.
The Columbia Oil Producing Company's Puenta 1-A a new well in one of the oldest shallow fields in the state attracted considerable attention. Drilled to 2500 feet his well came in producing 225 barrels of 32 gravity oil. The oil produced is 30 gravity. Puente 1-A is located in the heart of a field that has been producing from small shallow wells for more than forty years. This is making a new field out of an old one, as the average depth of the 60 or more wells drilled was not over 1500 ft. The success of the first deep well on this old property will near the re-drilling of the entire old field and a big increase in production for the Columbia Oil Company a subsidiary of the Shell Company of Calif.
As yet the Pan-American Petroleum Company has failed to get a producing well at No. 2 Pasadena City lease. The well was drilled to 4100 and when put on the pump started off on hot salt water, and has pumped water steadily for about ten days. The well is located just a short distance from the St. Helens Petroleum's big wells and the giant producers of the Petroleum Midway and Red Star Petroleum.
The Puenta Hills cannot be rated as a producing field as yet. The Chi-no Corona United Oil Company is cleaning some good showings of light oil at a depth of 3845 feet. The Jose Oil Company formerly the Bardeen Company has battled with water for a number of months in a well that promises to make good as soon as the water trouble is conquered. The Pasadena Puenta Oil Company's No. 1 was scheduled to go on the pump early in the week. The best that was expected of this well was a small producer, a well that would furnish fuel for further development work. The Pomona Oil Company's well is at 3460 but cannot hope to make any further progress until a lot of pipe is drilled up and the hole put in condition for going ahead.
Redondo has made good as an oil field. The upper sands have been developed and tested out. The next thing in order will be the exploration of the deep sand. The General Petroleum's Petrills 1 went on production in the upper zone at 3521 and made an average of 116 barrels

TWO-MILE ROAD
HAS 67 MATERIALS
SPRINGFIELD, Ill., April 27.
Thirteen miles from here there is a two mile model road that has never been used. This week tests will be begun that will bring about the destruction of the concrete brick and bituminous pavements that have been built into various sections of the street. Auto trucks will race over the Datos experimental road for months to give the highway engineers of the country information on the actual comparative value of the various types of road now being built.
Sixty-three kinds of construction, differing in kind of material, or method of design, on construction, are used in the test road.
