SUPERVISORS AWARD
HIGHWAY CONTRACTS
These contracts have been awarded by the Board of Supervisors: Basich Bros., Los Angeles, two miles of concrete highway on the Huntington Beach boulevard, $17,237.39; Mercereau Bridge Co., Los Angeles, three bridges in the Trabuca and Aliso canyon districts, $6,917, $2,439 for the Trabuca bridge, $2,335 for the Aliso canyon road bridge and $2,139 for the Third street, Santa Ana, Aliso bridges.
INITIATE "DEPT. 3"
OF SUPERIOR COURT
"Department 3," Superior Court, was initiated yesterday in Santa Ana, Ben. E. Tarver of Santa Ana, acted as Superior Judge pro tem. The additional department was found necessary because of the number of cases.
The trial of the suit of P. M. Reidy against Clara Turton of Garden Grove, was resumed. Henry Harris, of Los Angeles, for the plaintiff and Bishop and Wellington for the defendant asked that Tarver be chosen to preside. The suit was to execute a note for $500 dated Sept. 21, 1921, secured by a trust deed upon 134 acres of land near Orange.
CHURCHMEN WRECK VICTIMS
ONTARIO, April 26.—J. J. Nethery, of Riverside, president of the Southeastern California conference of the Adventist Church, and V. E. Pugh, of Riverside, young People's secretary of the conference, were seriously injured when an auto driven by Dr. S. P. S. Edwards, city health officer here, plunged 200 feet down an embankment in Pigeon Pass near High Groves. Nethery had his hip bones fractured. C. C. Matteson, secretary-treasurer of the conference, and Dr. Edwards were badly bruised.

PLAN NEW OIL FIELD
LOS ANGELES, April 26.—Hundreds of tons of machinery are being loaded to the mountains north of Santa Monica, where a new oil field may be developed on the Decker-Kincald ranch. Exprienced operators from Texas and Oklahoma will be in charge of the drilling. Messrs. LeVeke and Cunz, together with one Smith, formerly with the Goodyear Rubber Company. The three men hold 2260 acres in the midst of which is the 40-acre tract of the Santa Monica Royalty Oil Wells Syndicate.
ASK $70,000,000 FOR DAM
WASHINGTON, April 26.—An appropriation of $70,000,000 is asked in similar bills introduced by Congressman Phil Swing and Senator Hiram Johnson for the construction of a dam and reservoir near Boulder Canyon on the Colorado river.
"The dam would be sufficient," Swing said, "to store the entire flood waters of that river in any year, and completely remove the constantly recurring serious menace from annual floods to the Imperial Valley, California; Yuma, Arizona, and many other thriving communities on the lower Colorado."
FRANCIS J. FLUNO DEAD
SAN FRANCISCO, April 26.—Francis J. Fluno, founder of the 1st Church of Christ, Scientist, in Oakland, is dead. He is said to have been a founder of the Mother Church in Boston and to have been personally intimate with Mary G. Eddy.
ASK REMOVAL OF McKEE
LOS ANGELES, April 26.—The Commercial Board has asked Mayor George E. Cryer to remove Major McKee as head of the Harbor Commission. A communication from two other commissioners declares McKee unfit for the position.

Mrs. J. M. Jones of Toledo, Ohio, has arrived to spend the summer with her daughter, Mrs. Floyd West.
Mrs. Elmer Fallis and daughter June spent the day with Mrs. H. C. Ruick. Mr. Ruick and Mrs. Fallis joined them in the evening and all had dinner together.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Collings and baby left this morning for Oakland where they will visit with the mother of Mr. Collings.

Judge and Mrs. J. S. Howard have returned from Santa Maria where they attended the funeral of Judge Howard's brother's wife.
S. M. Kistler has received a letter from the East stating that his mother who is past 82 years old is in a serious condition, and not expected to live.
Mrs. George Tedrick and Mrs. Geo. Fendley were recent visitors in Los Angeles.
G. M. Simpson made a business trip to San Diego today.
Mr. and Mrs. Nick Stehley of Anaheim are the proud parents of a Spound baby boy who came this morning.
Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Rogers, of Orange-ave, are the proud parents of a 10½ pound daughter, born Saturday evening, April 22. Mother and daughter are doing nicely.
Ed Lickiss and family of Lankersheim spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Gordan of Bush-st.
Mrs. Charles Ramella has returned from Orange, where she visited with her daughter.
