Tuesday, April 25, 1922 Probe Boxer's Death from Blow NEW YORK. April 25.—Lew Brody, aged 21, boxer, struggled to his feet as the referee counted "nine" over him during a boxing bout here last night, received another blow that felled him and died today without regaining consciousness. No arrests have been made, but the district attorney declared an investigation will be started. Brody, as one of the principals in a semi-final bout at the Broadway Athletic Association's club card, had battled through eight rounds with Frank Pitcher. In the ninth he was knocked down twice, the second time falling unconscious. A ringside physician worked frantically for several minutes to revive the boxer and, failing, rushed him to a hospital. Physicians said Brody's skull was fractured. ROGERS FIGHTS IN 'ONE GLORIOUS DAY' He never had a real fight in his life, said Will Rogers, but he has had several screen scraps and the most thrilling one, probably, occurred during the filming of the Paranount comedy, "One Glorious Day" in which he plays the leading role, with Lila Lee as leading woman, and Alan Hale as the villain, which comes to the California theatre today. It is with Hale that Rogers has to endulge in a real rough and tumble light and as the former is a big man well muscled and in fine physical condition, the latter had to do some all hustling to keep from being damaged. When he had finished the scrap, he grinned and after puffing for a few minutes, observed: "I've been in places where I've had to do some arguing to get out without a fight, but I never had a regular scrap. I'd rather tell 'em a tattle or two and get their minds murder were prepared at the district attorney's office. It was expected that Reugg and Mosher would be arrested at the conclusion of the inquiry. The names of 300 members of the Ku Klux Klan were in the possession of the district attorney's office today. They were supplied by a special investigator who was said to have spied on recent meetings of the order in the city. Peterson and Carson, the Redondo police officers, and George W. Reynolds, assistant marshal at Inglewood, informed Doran that they will be able to identify at least three of the raiders who took Enduayen from his home. Elduaysen and his brother, Matthias Elduayen, were first taken to the Inglewood police station where the raiders demanded they be placed in jail. Those raiders were unmasked and Reynolds said he will be able to identify them. Peterson and Carson were at the Redondo jail when the raiders asked that the Elduayens be imprisoned there. Reugg who was shot through the groin, was pronounced out of danger by Dr. J. Frank Garrison today." OCCUPY NEW Mr. and Mrs. G. UNCOVER BOOTLEG CONSPIRACY SAN FRANCISCO, April 25. — Samuel F. Rutter, Federal Prohibition Director, is seeking the arrest of deputy sheriffs and other "higher up" police officers accused of bootlegging graft. A gigantic bootlegging conspiracy has been uncovered by Rutter working with Chief of Police Daniel O'Brien. Mosher was wounded in the arm. Reugg will be confined to his bed for two weeks, Dr. Garrison said, and arrangements were made for him to give his testimony at his bedside. TAGGART TO BUILD CABIN AT BIG BEAR Paul Taggard will leave within a few days for the opening of the trout season at Big Bear Lake. While there he will erect a cabin where his family will spend a month after the close of the school term. H. P. Toblin and E. M. Schlotter are among Anaheimers who will open the trout season at Big Bear. Scores of trout fishermen here have been inquiring whether Little Bear lake would be open May 1, the day of the opening of the season. The lake will be open. Snow covering the road over the divide is being shoveled out of the way. Road building material is being hauled at night and crews of workmen are putting this in place in the daytime. Up to today there were 60 or more boats on the lake. More will be shipped there from San Bernardino. Indications are that there will be boats enough for everyone when the trout season opens.
