THE GLORIOUS FOOL AT THE CALIFORNIA
Whether they know it or not, all authors write about themselves or their friends. Mary Roberts Rinehart, who wrote the story of the new Goldwyn photoplay, "The Glorious Fool," which will come to the California Theatre for two days, beginning tomorrow, knew intimately the source from which her story came. In her youth, Mrs. Rinehart was a hospital nurse; and no doubt the part of the pretty probationer, played by Helene Chadwick, was suggested by some lovely nurse the authoress had known.
The story begins with the marriage of an inexperienced probationer to a private patient who is on the point of death. The patient is desirous of cheating his yulturous relatives or his fabulous fortune; and the poor, wracked nurse consents to the marriage only when she feels that her patient will not die content unless she acquieces in his wishes. But the man gets well—uncomfortably well. And what is more, knows that he is in love with his nurse.
Then hospital politics come into play. The little nurse is transferred to a maternity ward, where her sympathies again cause her to do something that nurses simply don't do. And when it appears that she is about to be dismissed, that she has been a complete failure, fortune takes a turn and shows her many things she never guessed were in its wheel.
The rich patient in the case is played delightfully by Richard Dix. Mrs. Rinehart has expressed her pleasure at the excellent production and the consummate direction given "The Glorious Fool" by E. Mason Hopper. Under his guidance, the picture is a sweet romance with many tense moments that dissolve into happy events.

MUCH INTEREST IN NEW PACKARD LINE
Auto fans were intensely interested in the announcement of the new Packard cars, which appeared in Saturday's automobile section. Dale & Co., are prepared to take prospects to Los Angeles to see the cars, a full line of which has not yet arrived here. The new single six five passenger touring sells at $2825 here and the big twin six at $4290 here.
Village Gossip
M. E. Bever, Anaheim contractor, was startled, to say the least, for a time this morning. Under the circumstances he can hardly be blamed.
Bever, it will be remembered, is the father of thriving triplets. So this morning when Miss Marion Jean Rollins, a nurse, of Los Angeles, who is stopping at the Bever residence for a few days, telephoned his office and offered congratulations over the arrival of "twin kids," at his house, Bever went straight up in the air.
He calmed down somewhat when the nurse offered to take one of the twins off his hands. However, he didn't breathe easily until figuratively speaking, he was given a blue print to the effect that the new arrivals were kid Toggenbergs. Bever, being a builder, understands a blue print, at least.
The next time Henry Siefken and Gilbert "Scotty" Scott go deep sea fishing they're not going to take any short-legged guys along, like Johnny Steinborn, for instance.
The other day when the wind was blowing great guns, the trio attempted to get a light boat out the mouth of Newport harbor. When they hit the breakers the boat was soon filled.
"Jump, you long-legged stiffs, you can wade ashore," Steinborn is alleged to have advised.
When Siefken and Scotty were clear of the boat, Steinborn upset the boat and calmly rode it bottom-side up to shore.

At the recent boxing match, a goodly number of women were in attendance and upon being asked how they enjoyed the contest one of them enthusiastically answered, “fine, never had so much fun in my life.” This reply rather floored the interrogator, for women as a rule do not enjoy seeing one man deliberately bing another on the nose until the gory fluid streams, or cracks him over the head hard enough to knock out for a time what intelligence may have existed, but venturing a little farther with questions, it was learned the pleasure came from a far different origin.
“You ought to have seen those men chew gum in their excitement. It was the most fun! They made their jaws overworked harvest hand at a quiet. And they yell and said horrible words favorite received an a “Talk about women sale. Excitement is pared to a bunch of a boxing match.”

NO MORE LINCOLNS AVAILABLE SOON
George Dunton, local Lincoln distributor, is congratulating himself that he was able to get delivery of a carload of the autos when he did. The order has gone out from the factory that no more deliveries will be made to dealers who have received one or more models until all Ford dealers desiring a demonstrator have been supplied. This may mean a delay of some time before Dunton can hope to obtain more Lincolns.
Dunton, in common with the other 8000 Ford dealers, is making a drive for subscriptions for Henry Ford's weekly. The Independent, Duntoh was given a quota of more than 200 subscribers or just half his sales of Ford cars and trucks last year. Last week Dunton's salesmen took 51 subscriptions.
Indigestion Unchecked Leads to Poisoning!
Fermentation of Food in Digestive Organs Cause of Trouble
If you suffer from indigestion it is a sure sign that your system is being slowly poisoned by the fermentation in the intestines. This condition produces heartburn, choking sensations in the chest, a feeling of heaviness or drowsiness, irritability, discouragement and dependency.
Mr. M. J. Christopher, 5724 Keyser Street, Germantown, Pa., long a sufferer from indigestion, writes:
"Before using Dr. A. W. Chase's medicines, I felt so badly that I did not care whether I lived or died. I suffered from indigestion and my stomach would be so upset that even a piece of bread and a cup of coffee would give me great pain taking Dr. A. W. Chase's K-L Pills I can eat almost anything without feeling any after-effects. The sore, achy feeling which I used to have in the lower part of my back is gone, and I feel so ambitions to do many things which I could not do before."
You can buy Dr. A. W. Chase's remedies at all drug stores. To be sure of getting the genuine, see that portrait and signature of A.W. Chase, M.D., are on each box. This trade mark is your protection against imitations and substitutes.
