MONDAY, April 17, 1922 SPORT ANAHEIM DEFEATS ARCADIA 17 TO 10 Anaheim Elks came back strong against Arcadia's fast anttered crew yesterday on the high school field and sent them back to the balloon-school town to the tune of 17 to 10. It was miserable weather for baseball. A raw gale was kicking up a dust that filled the eyes of the athletes with sand and left their fingers numb. All that was necessary was to knock the ball into the air and the breezes wafted it away. As on the previous Sunday, the visitors scored early and often, counting once in the first, three in the second and one in the third. It wasn't until the fourth, after Captain Buster Callan had instructed his athletes to wait 'em and spot Mr. Corpe two strikes, if necessary, that Pendleton got on when the Arcadia left-fielder's chilled fingers dropped Pendleton's long fly. Dun, up next, smacked out the first clean one of the game for the locals. Stephens did the same. Captain Buster was safe when the Arcadia centerfielder failed to glue onto a fly. Bush triplied. Schrott was safe at first on fielder's choice. Salveson sacrificed him to second and Hughes grounded out finishing the inning with four tallies. In the next round, the locals grabbed off another, evening the score. In the sixth, the visitors piled up three more counters but the locals came right back in their half-and counted a quartet. In the deadly seventh, the locals counted five times and the game was on lee then. With one victory each, and one of them a 12-inning affray, next Sunday's deciding clash should bring out a capacity crowd. Arcadia Elks— AB. R. H. H. SH. PO. A. E. Appleby, agent here and in Santa Ana., Appleby today announced. The event has been long awaited by auto fans and dealers, because the new machine is expected to represent the experience of a man who has manufactured more six-cylinder cars than any other man in the world. The new car has a well base of 123½ inches, and is long and low slung, the design differing somewhat from the other Durant cars. The lines are said to harmonize in a wonderful manner. The car has the famous Ansted motor which at 3,000 revolutions develops 70 horsepower. This is considerably more power than the average six of its weight and size. The car can go 75 miles per hour in high without strain. Motor, clutch and transmission are separate units and each, in line with the policy of accessibility held to by Durant on all his cars, can be removed without disturbing the others. The familiar tubular backbone also is a feature, and this united with the unusual depth of frame and heavy cross members will make the car remarkably strong. A multiple disc clutch and Timkin axles front and rear are additional features. Motor fans are not altogether unacquainted with the new machine, which was put on exhibition at the San Francisco show. The new six is expected to duplicate the success of the four, which bounded into popularity almost overnight. BERLIN ORCHESTRA MAY VISIT AMERICA BERLIN, April 17.—A tour of America has been proposed for the orchestra of the State Opera House at Berlin, considered the best orchestra in Germany and the second only to the Ylenna Philharmonic. The suggestion is for it to make a short tour next season accompanied by a few singers from the opera. A definite proposal to this effect has been taken to America by Irving Crane of New York, who sailed on the steamship America this week. The idea is for the proceeds of the concerts to go to German charities. MANY WORDS Thousands attend sunrise service on yesterday. In the morning the full Easter service was carried out and in the evening in addition to an excellent musical program, the Sunday Evening Community Sing was most inspiring. He announced that the membership would be 1,000 by October 1, the end of the church's year, he hoped, and that he was working to that end. He said that he was receiving members on one condition and only one: That they would accept Christ as their Savior and try to live such lives as would be pleasing to Him. Dr. Geissinger baptized eight persons in the morning and received fourteen into the membership of the church. He announced that the membership would be 1,000 by October 1, the end of the church's year, he hoped, and that he was working to that end. He said that he was receiving members on one condition and only one; That they would accept Christ as their Savior and try to live such lives as would be pleasing to Him. "I believe the world needs more genuine Christianity. I believe that we ought to build the Sermon on the Mount and the spirit of Jesus Christ into civilization and I am calling upon all who so think to join with us to make this church a mighty spiritual center," the minister said. The morning sermon on the text Mark 16:2 was an interpretation of the meaning of Easter. He said in part: "When Donald Hankey, one of the keenest owlpaper men at the front and a leutenant in the service, was ready to go over the top, he made a note and left it in his dug-out. It was to this effect: If we are wounded, it will be blighty; if we are killed, the resurrection." Christ has had his way with the heart of the world, at least to that extent. We cannot think of death as ending all. And today millions of men and women in Russia and all over Europe, from the bleak New England coast to sunny California, along the Himalayas of India, in the primeval forests of Africa and in remotest parts of China, keep this day with joy and singing. The rerain is the same all over the world. 'He is risen. We too shall rise!' This text refers to the physical fact of the sunrise. The disciples always recalled that a new day was dawning upon the world when they came to the sepulcher on that first Sunday of the new age, and that was to them the symbol of the dawning of a new life for them and for the world spiritually. "If Christianity has meant anything for the life of the human race let us keep in mind that we owe all to Easter Day, for had not Christ arisen there would have been no record, no New Testament, no Sunday and no church. All af these came out of the tomb with Christ. This day, 100, justifies the imaginations and hopes and aspirations of the human heart from the dawn of life. It says that we are immortal. But if we are immortal what kind of men and women should we be?" MANY WORSHIP AT SUNRISE SERVICES Thousands attended the annual sunrise service on Mount Roubidoux yesterday.
