CENTRALIA RANCHER BACK FROM BERLIN CYPRESS. April 4. — (Spl) A. Leubkeman, a prominent farmer of the Centralia district has just returned from an extended trip through Germany. He reports the past winter to have been the coldest for many years. Motorists passed over from Germany to Denmark on the ice. Mr. Leubkeman reports that the people are all busy and happy. The factories are running full blast and all lines of production are up to the limit. The taxes are very high. The working man's tax is 10% of his wages. There is a sales tax of 2½% which when applied to commodities that pass thru several hands amounts to a great deal. The people claim that they can never pay their war debts. They believe their entire country is not worth the amount of debt, yet they are optimistic and are doing all they can. Mr. Leubkeman says that reports of the Russian situation are terrible. The starving people are becoming cannibals in their desperation. Mr. Leubkeman did not visit any of the other countries. He left Germany the first of March and was 18 days on the water. He landed at New Orleans and came over the southern route. A. Agnew, who makes his home with his daughter, Mrs. F. H. Huttenlocher suffered a slight stroke of paralysis last Friday. Some compromises between the government, the municipality and the Olympic committee will be necessary and it is doubtful if money enough will be raised to stage the games as planned. The Olympic committee is distinctly disappointed over the insistent stand taken by the government in selecting the Pershing stadium as the sight for the games. The committee believes the stadium is not only inferior in structure, but ornamentally poor for such a spectacle. Alfred M. Morrisson Phone 537-M Contractor and Builder Plans Furnished 608 N.
