APPLEBY ENTHUSED BY MILTON'S WIN The staffs of James E. Appleby here and in Santa Ana, are exhibiting today over the third victory yesterday of Tommy Milton in his Durant Special. Milton's first victory on the Los Angeles Speedway did not count, because the race being less than half run was called off on account of rain, but the showing made by the Durant was all the more brilliant, on account of the condition of the track. Milton, facing nine of the greatest drivers in the world, all of them on their toes to wrest back the laurels he twice had wrung from them, rode away with an easy victory in the 50-mile special, beating his nearest competitor by about two miles and establishing a new world's record for the distance. He also won one of the four 25-mile heats. The Durant showed the same easy superiority to other cars that it displayed before, and its balance at the record-breaking speed maintained was the marvel of the big crowd. All of the Durant cars, said Appleby, have these same qualities of endurance, balance and ease on tires, because they all are constructed on the same general plan.
