V. Brown who had the part of John Smith, and Elwin Grauer, who took John Rolf. Other leading roles were taken by John Clark, John Fee-tham, Elizabeth Donnelly, and the dancers, who were Nellie Brougher and Margaret Briscoe and Ted Selms and Rulon McOmle. Women's organizations throughout the country are contributing greatly to help American womanhood find its new place in the scheme of things, and to make itself useful in the new relations of this era of women's participation in all public affairs, especially in this movement toward world peace." The very trock—the very self-same little silken frock—that Bo-peep-wore on the day when she so dazzled Boy Blue that he blew such mighty blasts upon his horn as to break it all to pieces, now hangs in a shop here. I have no doubt that some modern Bo-peep will wear it one day to the complete downfall of her own cavallier. It is fashioned of moire in the color of the ocean on a windy afternoon. The tight little rounded bodice is fastened down the front, with its point far below the waist line, with rhinestone buttons. The elbow sleeves end in a frill of white net, and the lace is shirred into a vesting where the bodice Vs.a bit. And oh, those panniers! Volumous and bournfant above each small hip with edges piped all the way round with plaited rose colored velvet! And finally—take care Boy Blue of today who would retain your heart!—each pannier is adorned with a curving Sheperdess basket of lovely flowers all worked out in velvet and silk embroidering, the while the basket is of gold. Late winter sent this city many and many a spring suit of tweed, homespun cheviot and such practical and swagger sports materials: Even now these suits lend tone to the Avenue whenever one catches a glimpse of their French blues, old rosette, terro-cotta, and grey. But later than these are the suits of serge, twill, whipcord, now showing in the shops and as yet only occasionally venturing forth. Navy, of course, is the favorite. Distinguished club women from all over the country are in convention, among them Mrs. C. O. Selover, of Cleveland, president of the Ohio Federation of Women's clubs. Mrs. W. T. Thorn, a prominent clubwoman of Georgia, is another attendant. One of yesterday's features was the baby show or clinic. The chairman of the Child Welfare section of Santa Monica club, was in charge. During the past two and one-half years, she has examined more than 1500 babies. Clinics are held every Wednesday afternoon, no vacation being taken through the summer. Many resolutions were passed at yesterday's session, among them one from the Friday Morning club being a protest against the treatment of drug addicts, and a recommendation that they be segregated from the other jail prisoners. OFFICIAL VISIT SOON The official visit of the District Deputy, Order of Eastern Star, will make her official visit here Monday evening, April 10, and the occasion will be one of particular pleasure. A good time, with an interesting program, is being planned. HOTEL VALENCIA GUESTS Guests at Hotel Valencia yesterday included; James M. Beorn, Taft; C. C. Johnson, Bakersfield; J. R. WORLD WILL MISS NOTED COMPOSER NEW YORK, March 30—With the recent passing of Horace Wadham Nicholls, March 10, in New York City, America lost a musician and composer of note; and the world a leader in musical literature during the past century. Horace Nicholls died at his residence, 125 East 22ndst., New York City, Friday, March 10, at the age of 74 years, after a long and fruitful career as composer and organist. For many years he had been organist at St. Mark's in the great metropolis of the east. WILL SEND LEPERS TO REGULAR COLONY SACRAMENTO, March 30. —Rrangements are being made to send over 30 lepers in the state of California to the federal leperosarium at Carville, La., which is maintained under the direction of the United States Public Health Service. The cases will include 20 from San Francisco, six from San Leandro, one from Alviso, one from San Jose and two from San Diego. Practically all cases were contracted in the Orient, or through contact with Orientalists here. CHILDREN'S CRUSADE READY FOR JANUARY ST. LOUISE, Mo., March 30. —Children crusaders who will ask President Harding to release their fathers from federal prison, where they are serving sentences for violation of the espionage act, gathered here today. The thirty children will start their pilgrimage to Washington within a few days. Their party will be augmented at Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati and Philadelphia. DISCOVER HARD COAL Two veins of hard coal were discovered when a well was bored in Queensland. Material and Workmanship of the Highest Standard is the Tittman’s Policy. But later than these are the suite of serge, twil, whipcord, now showing in the shops and as yet only occasionally venturing forth. Navy, of course, is the favorite. Much trimming is used in the way of black silk braids; narrow fringe is seen frequently. Lines all conform to the model approved by Dame Fashion herself; a straight, not too wide skirt, longer than last year's; a circular shaped coat warying in length from slightly below the waist-line to a bit below the hips; narrow turn-down collar; one fastening at the throat; wide sleeves, many of which are cut on the raglan order. Simplicity, youth, beauty! A famous house which specializes in tailleurs is offering such a model in copenhagen serge. Pockets are set at the very edge of the coat to allow the pouches to hang below the hem. The skirt is fashioned with a panel, front and back. The top of the hem between panels is outlined with a narrow piping of king blue and white. This piping finishes pocket flaps, collar and sleeves. A string tie of it fastens the coat at the throat. A hat to match is made of the serge in small, toque shape. The roll back brim is embroidered in king blue and white. The vogue of bead necklaces finally has been developed to a queer thing in coral which should be popular if Madame continues to seek novelty. Small carved medallions, no two similar, strung at intervals upon two sets of gold links form the chain. The center medallion is a cherub's head carved in such high relief as to be quite statue-like, upon a rounded background of roses. It is exquisite, to be sure. Still, what with the boldness of execution and the dimensions, wearing it partakes of the nature of hanging round one's neck the cornice of a building.
