TEMPLE REVIVAL GAINS MOMENTUM The revival at the Methodist White Temple is gaining momentum with 18 conversions since the series of meetings started Sunday. In preliminary meetings there were 80 decisions among children, 30 by young people and 26 by adults in the Sunday school. Women's prayer meetings are being held daily at 9 a.m. and men's meetings each evening at seven for a half hour before the regular evening service. Dr. James Allen Geissinger spoke last night on "Standing out Against God." His text was John 3:36. He said in part: We are this week, in a special manner, facing the challenge of Jesus Christ. There is but one of two things that we can do in this case: We may give in our allegiance to Christianity and become humble followers of Jesus Christ, crowning him Lord in our lives; or we can refuse to do so. One or the other we must do. There is no middle course, however much we may try to make ourselves think there is. Before we reject Jesus Christ we ought to try to think what that must mean for us. Jesus Christ is acknowledged to be the "way and the truth and the life." It is commonly said on all sides that if the world would follow Christ all of our problems would be solved, personal, business and political. He has given us the supreme truth about God, about ourselves, about our destiny, about or duty. If we turn away from him in unbelief, refusing to accept his Mastership, then we say plainly that we care not at all for truth, vital truth. Jesus Christ kindled in men's hearts when he was here upon earth in the flesh a mighty passion for righteousness. Any one at all familiar with history knows that when Christianity began its mighty work in the world religion was not a force making for righteousness. Judaism left its followers in the toils of a mere formalism. Jesus said frankly that except men and women came to a higher righteousness than the scribes and Pharisees had they would perish morally. Any one at all familiar with history knows that when Christianity began its mighty work in the world religion was not a force making for righteousness. Judaism left its followers in the toil of a mere formalism. Jesus said frankly that except men and women came to a higher righteousness than the scribes and Pharisees had they would perish morally. Paul acknowledged that his religion had no power to give him moral victory. But if this is so it was even worse, almost infinitely worse, with the religions of Greece and Rome. They fostered immorality. The pagan gods and goddesses were worse than the movie gods and goddesses of today. Christianity went into the world of that day proclaiming the gospel of divine grace and calling upon men and women to believe in Christ and conquered the vile conditions and brot about a moral renovation of the world. You never find Christianity indifferent to moral issues. Wherever the gospel is preached it makes for clean living and high thinking and all the forces of the under-world know this. If you reject Christ you advertise the fact that none of this moves you, in other words you say as plainly as actions can say that you have no moral concern. Jesus Christ came into the world not only to bear witness against sin but to bear witness for God. Jesus seeks to help men to faith in God by the revelation of his own life. My friends, if superstition has been a crippling force and atheism leaves the heart in despair, it is clear to all of you surely from your own observation, that faith in the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ is the mightiest power in the world for high living. Faith in God saves the heart from despair in the face of disaster and faith in God makes pain as if it were not and faith in God brings out the god-like in man. Now when a man deliberately turns away from all this and says he is bored or he is incensed he is not only aligning himself against the good people of the world and with the vicious, but he is thrusting God back. The word is plain: "He that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." God sent his Son to save the world and you have spurned Him. You have restrained his love. You have built your will against his love. You have freely determined that you care not for the will of God and God has to leave you to your own devices; that is you choose to have God, even God against you. That is what your standing out against the Christ of God means and will mean forever. Mr. and Mrs. John Boyle and children spent Sunday with Mrs. Nellie Andrews at Compton. SCOUTS TO PICK GLASS FROM ROADS Motorists who have suffered with "puncturitis" on Southern California highways can now cheer up, for their troubles may soon be over. A movement initiated by the Automobile Club of Southern California is spreading rapidly throughout the counties to have roads and streets cleared of bits of glass, nails and even thorns. Leading in the activity of clearing the highways of puncture material are the Boy Scouts, ably seconded by the school children of the state. In Pasadena the Boy Scouts have gathered up 11,622 pieces of things which are liable to puncture tires. The group collecting the greatest number of bits will be awarded a trophy by the club. Numerous smashups of motor cars have been strewing the roads with glass from broken headlights and windshields. This is a common cause of punctures, and whenever such wrecks occur the boys get out and sweep up the glass. This is in line with the general "safety" work of the Auto Club throughout the southern part of the state. The movement is gaining headway from San Diego and Imperial counties on the south to San Luis Obispo county on the north. Every town in this part of the state will eventually be asked to cooperate in making the highways safe for autoists. Any evidence of the de- U. S. HAS NO SHOW FOR OLYMPIC GAMES NEW YORK, March 27—America has too much money to get the Olympic games for years to come, according to Frederick W. Rublen, secretary of the A. A. U. While talking at a meeting of the Metropolitan Ass'n last night Mr. Rublen said no city in the United States should get worked up over the prospect of staging the games because it would be a false alarm. Sentiment among the European nations, he said, is that America has so much money she should do most of the traveling, and that the games should be kept on the other side of the water.
