HARTRANFT NEARING
SHOT-PUT RECORD
Glen Hartranft of Fullerton today stood as the prospective world champion shot-putter.
Beside that the giant Orange county boy, now wearing the Stanford Cardinal, was the most talked-of athlete on the Pacific coast.
More than a year from his voting age and only a sophomore in college, Hartranft Saturday electrified the track world by tossing the 16-pound shot a distance of 50 feet and 3-8 of an inch in the Stanford-Olympic club meet.
The world record of 51 feet, held by Ralph Rose of San Francisco, has stood since August 21, 1909.
Sport followers agreed today that Hartranft will break the mark, possibly before the present season is over. The Fullerton boy's record this year has been phenomenal. Two weeks ago he hurled the shot 47 feet 11 inches. A week ago he startled the fans with a mark of 49 feet 6 inches. Saturday he battered that distance by more than six inches.
"Bud": Houser, the Oxnard high school boy, has been considered Rose's most likely rival as a world champion. But his work with the 16-pound shot is more than three feet short of Hartranft's distance Saturday.
The Fullerton boy also has thrown the discus 144 feet this year and run the 100-yard dash in 101-5 seconds. He is figured to win two first places for Stanford in any meet in the United States this year and will probably represent the Cards in the National Inter-collegiate meet at Harvard in May.

ANAHEIM SWAMPS WHITTIER COLLEGE
High School Athletics
The girls baseball nine has scored another victory. This time against Whittier College girls on their diamond. The game was a complete walk-away as the score of 26 to 2 indicates. This was another of the practice games, the league not commencing until the 30th of March.
Other athletes of the high school were not meeting with as good success as the girl yesterday. At the Fullerton courts, Orange and Anaheim were having it out in the first league game of the season. "The only match taken by the Anaheim racket sharks was in the first girl's"
REVIVAL WILL OPEN SUNDAY AT TEMPLE
Great interest is being manifested in the coming revival campaign of the White Temple, which is to be started Sunday, March 26th. Two series of cottage prayer meetings have been held already. Last night a conference of men was held. Today the women of the church held a similar conference.
The young people have signed written pledges to help with the personal work. The music will be specially featured with Dale Hamilton Evans as organist and Ellis Rhodes as director, assisted by chorus choir. Mr. Rhodes has had considerable experience along these lines, having assisted in several campaigns when he was at Simpson college.
Dr. Gelissinger has worked with many of the leading evangelists, was in charge of the last great campaign of the Methodists of California, Nevada and Arizona, spoke at the overflow meetings for Gypsy Smith when he was last here, and has personally conducted more than a score of similar campaigns.
He said today: "We shall resort to no tricks and to no forced methods. In the preaching I shall try to set forth the claims of Christ upon every life and shall aim to interest all those who come in what Christianity offers to the seeker. There are many families in and around Anaheim who formerly were active Christians and now are indifferent from one reason or another. We shall try to reach these persons. There are many persons seriously thinking of their obligations to God. The whole world is apparently sick of the way we have been living and are ready to turn to a better way. The reaction following the war has about spent itself and men and women are returning to a safer view of things. On the other hand, the churches are more alert than ever and with great power Christianity is making its appeal around the world."
"The White Temple has every reason to rejoice. There has been a very rapid increase in the enrollment of the Sunday school and a corresponding increase in the membership of the church. Many are coming into the fellowship of our church on profession of faith. They are coming in from various denominations, for more and more men and women are concerned about fundamentals and not about petty matters or slight differences in point of view. We are trying to build in the White Temple a church that will be second to none in Southern California, and that means in the United States, a church that

Other athletes of the high school were not meeting with as good success as the girl yesterday. At the Fullerton courts, Orange and Anaheim were having it out in the first league game of the season. The only match taken by the Anaheim racket sharks was in the first girls' doubles in which L. Polrier shined.
Coach Youngman's diamond men will go against Whittier this evening in the second league ball game of the season. The first league game was a victory for the local men and they are expected to take the second.
The girls orange league baseball schedule is announced as follows:

FULLERTON BEATEN BY GARDEN GROVE
The Garden Grove city team did not show up yesterday to play the Fullerton high school first team in baseball, nor was any reason sent for their absence, it was stated this morning.
The Fullerton high school played the Garden Grove high school team, however. The score was 11 to 10 in favor of Garden Grove.
Fullerton high school played Huntington Beach team this afternoon. The members of the Fullerton team include: Maynard Dunbar, Ed Salter, Oral Herman, Robert Goodwin, Leon Boisseranc, Thomas Craig, Carl Elder, Gilbert McDermott, Merle Dunbar, Dwight Shpherd, Raymond Earl, Hugh Edwards, Jean Arroues, Kendell Yorba, and Merrill Gregory.

BAYMILLER VISITS ANAHEIM DISTRICT
W. H. Baymiller, president of the Pacific Land Corp., owners and colonizers of El Camino Rancho, was a visitor in the Anaheim district—the last week. Mr. Baymiller has been identified the last few years with several large land subdivisions in the Sacramento Valley, which have been very successful. El Camino Rancho, an 8,000-acre body of fine land in Tehanna-co., is attracting considerable attention throughout Orange-co. Many ranches live in the last few months bought land in this ranch and pronounced it equal to the best they have seen anywhere in the state. El Camino Rancho is in the heart of the great deciduous fruit belt of Tehanna-co., which has a rare crop.

DECEIVED WIFE
HAS RIGHT TO SLAY
PARIS, March 23. That a deceived wife not only has the right to kill an unfaithful husband, but commits a praiseworthy act in doing so, seems to be the opinion of a jury in the Gironde assizes. These 12 men acquitted Mine. Perron, who was charged with the murder of her husband, director of a theater at Bordeaux, by shooting him when she met him in the street.
The verdict was received with tearful applause and the woman, who had been already generally accepted as a heroine, has received offers for concert engagements at an increased salary.

CALIF. MAN HELPS STARVING RUSSIANS
MOSCOW, Russia, March 22. Eight thousand miles from home, dressed in an immense cap of astrakhan fur, a fur coat, several pairs of socks and other shields against the cold, a Californian helping to keep millions of human beings from starving to death.
The man is Elmer G. Burland of Visalia and San Francisco, U. of C. 1915 and a first lieutenant in Uncle Sam's artillery during the war with Germany. Burland is chief of the food remittance division of the Russian unit, American relief administration. His headquarters is in Moscow and from here, with the aid of 40 other Americans scattered around 17 outpost stations, he is supervising the distribution of 100,000 packages of food each month to people who would starve if they didn't get it.
The food remittance work is distinct from the child feeding work of the administration. The child feeding is without charge and is carried on with money contributed by the people of the United States. Now 1,200,000 children are being fed. The number will be increased as speedily as possible until 2,000,000 are getting one meal a day at the kitchens.
The food for adults in Russia is provided for them by their personal friends and relatives in America through the food remittance plan. Any person in America can purchase for $10 or any multiple of $10, food for delivery to a designated person in Russia. The purchase is made at the office of the American relief administration; 42 Broadway, New York. The name of the purchaser and the name of the beneficiary is then forwarded to Moscow and from Moscow to the district in which the beneficiary lives.
