Alex Henry, the Scotch from first to last, gets in on St. Patrick's Day celebration. The captain once mentioned the fact that St. Patrick was a Scotchman in the hearing of Dan O'Connor, former auto painter here. O'Connor was inclined to think otherwise, in fact had some money to that effect. The captain wrote in to the Examiner which published the following: Saint Patrick was born at Kilpatrick, near Dumbarton, Scotland, A.D. 387. In his sixteenth year he was carried away by Irish marauders and sold as a slave to a chieftain named Milchu in what is now County Antrim, Ireland. After six years' servitude he escaped; went to Britain and thence to St. Martin's monastery at Tours; studied under St. Germain, bishop of Auxerre. Pope Celestin I gave St. Patrick a mission to convert the Irish (circa 433 A.D.) He landed near Wicklow Head in Ireland. Under "Security Sales and Financing" the report shows that $14,372,900.00 worth of stock was sold to the general public. During the year the number of stockholders has increased from 7,197 on December 31, 1920 to 25,647 on December 31, 1921. At the end on 1920, 1,618 employees were stockholders, and at the end of 1921, 4,158 were stockholders, this number being ninety-eight per cent of the permanent force. The company brought in to service during the year 94,500 horsepower. This included the Kern River Number Three plant with 42,-900 horsepower, and additional unit in Big Creek Number Two power house of 21,400 horsepower, and a new development known as Big Creek Number Eight of 30,200 horsepower. This latter plant was placed in operation three months after the first concrete had been poured. In order to keep pace with the growing demands for power, the report states, a new power house is being started, known as Big Creek Number Three. The ultimate capacity of this plant will be 200,000 horsepower, consisting of six units of 33,300 horsepower each. The first unit will be put in operation in May, 1923, the second unit in July, and a third unit in February-1924. The other units will be added as the demands for power require. These units will be the largest of their kind on the Edison system, resulting in greater economy of operation.
