CROOKED PLATES MAY BRING ARREST
Motorists who place their new license plates in an improper manner on their cars are going to be liable to arrest in the near future, according to a warning just issued by the after bureau of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
There is a right and wrong way to mount the plates, and those following the wrong method are going to get themselves into a peck of trouble, according to the warning.
Do not allow the license plate to be obscured in any manner, says the Auto Club advice. For instance, be careful that the front bumper does not hide the plate. This is a common occurrence and places the motorist in a ticklish position with the law.
Do not allow the license plate to become dirty or defaced so that it cannot be readily observed.
Do not let the spare tire conceal any part of the plate.
Be sure that the rear light of the car shines fully upon the license plate. This is important, warns the club, through its safety bureau.
Crank handles often obscure a portion of the license number and this must be guarded against.
Remember that the license plate has to be sixteen inches above the surface of the road.
Do not allow the extra tire rack to conceal any part of the plate.
For any of these violations the motorist is liable to immediate arrest. According to word received by the Auto Club, all city, county and state police officers will be watching out from now on for these various evasions of the law. Look over your license plates now, Mr. Motorist, and avoid trouble.

SPEED WAGON IS DISTINCT REO IDEA
Reo conceived the Speed Wagon idea—created the vehicle, — copyrighted the name, —and popularized the type.
There is only one Speed Wagon, and Reo builds it. Ninety per cent of all commercial carrying can be done most economically by Speed Wagons. Outside of the distinctive heavy haulage field, the Speed Wagon is adapted to practically every class of carrying service. Any load that can be divided into units of 500 to 2500 pounds, can be moved quicker and cheaper by Speed Wagons than any other medium.
Thirty miles an hour instead of fifteen,—pneumatic cord tires instead of solids,—a vehicle weight in sensible ratio to its carrying capacity instead of disproportionately heavy,—electric lights and starter instead of the absence of them. These are among the reasons why the Speed Wagon is more profitable than the slow, heavy, costly, old-time type of truck! They explain why food producers
Battery Is Ruined By Lack of Care
“You cannot be too careful in your choice of the man who cares for your battery” is the advice of West Bros., distributors of Vesta batteries, to their customers. “Your battery is too delicate and too valuable a part of your automobile to be treated slightlyly or carelessly.
“If you were to read a treatise on battery construction and care you would be told that the plates are composed of a soft lead and lead oxide pressed into a grid of some sort to hold it in place. These plates are submerged in a liquid made up of chemically pure sulphuric acid and pure water combined in proportion to register about 1.275 specific gravity. The action between the two unlike plate, positive and negative, and the acid creates electrical energy for the starting of your car and lighting your way in the dark. As the battery is used day by day the specific gravity of the liquid gradually changes, and it tells you the condition of your battery.

BLAME L. B. FIELD FOR BIG PRODUCTION
With Oil Operators
If So, Calif. is to become the victim of over production it begins to look like the Long Beach field will be blame for it. The new wells that seem capable of making a thousand barrels each have just been brought in. The Henderson Petroleum Syndicate's Lekas No. 1 completed at 2952 is a well whose possibilities are far from being known. This well has produced all the way from a 1000 to 2500 barrels. The gas pressure runs high, standing a greater part of the time around 900 pounds. As the gas pressure rises the flow of oil decreases. The problem being it seems to handle the gas in such a way as to cut down the tremendous pressure and allow the oil to get out. This big well is making 12 million cubic feet. A peculiar fact discovered in testing the gas shows that it has a specific gravity of six tents and therefore carries no gasoline. It would seem that a well making 24 gravity oil and 22 million cubic feet of gas would have a vapor carrying gasoline.
The United Oil Company has brought in a well that will make all the way from 600 to 1000 barrels on the Jones property. This new well was completed at 3060 feet. The advent of Jones No. 1 raises the United Oil's Signal Hill production to about 1600 barrels daily. The United has drilled four wells at Signal Hill and has three of them producing. This little company has made an enviable record.
The Petroleum Midway added 300 barrels of new production to the Signal Hill output by bringing in a 300 barrel well at Ellis No. 1. Ellis No. 1 was completed at 3224. The Ellis well gives the Petroleum Midway its first Signal Hill production. The company has three other wells drilling and two new ones starting.
The General Petroleum found the pipe bad in the Black Drake at 2080. It is believed the 12½ has collapsed at that point, and it will be necessary to do considerable work before the big gusher can be revived.
The Jergins well has been put on regular production after two months or more of cleaning out, adjusting and testing. This well completed at
AUTOMOTIVE CO.'S SERVICE IMPROVED
The service furnished by the Automotive Electric Company of 234 South Los Angeles street is much improved with the shifting of equipment out of the shop into the former stock room. The present stock room is combined with the concern's office.
The company is agent for the Auto-Light and Westinghouse electric systems, U.S.L. batteries, Elsemann magnetos and Connecticut ignition. One of the largest stocks of Delco and Reny parts to be found in the city is on hand. The firm handles none but genuine parts, which cost no more than the fake parts to be found in shops everywhere.
AUTOISTS EXPLAIN CLOUD OVER GASSER
The dark cloud which formed over Howard Well No. 1, of the Union Oil Company, the gasser recently affire, was discovered and explained for the first time through a crew of a Cleveland Scout Car, according to a bulletin recently issued by the Cleveland and Chandler agents here, the U.E.Walter Co. The discovery illustrates the general usefulness of this car, which in the course of its travels covers an immense amount of territory.
A quick run was made to the burning well where certain examinations were made of the atmospheric conditions surrounding the burning gusher. The matter was then taken up with the U.S. Weather Bureau, which gave out the following explanation:
Instead of being smoke, the cloud was of the regular cumulus type, formed by the rush of gas and steam coming from the flaming well. It was further explained that the cloud remained in place because of the fact that the great column of fire heated an invisible dome above the well. This dome in turn was walled in by cold air. The cold air naturally being heavier was the means by which the cloud was held stationary.
Thus it is not hard to imagine a mighty, but unseen struggle again going on in that age-old battle between heat and cold.
Some idea of the intensity of the heat from the fire may be gained by
6 SANTA FE WELLS DRILL OUT CEMENT
With the Oil Operators
Santa Fe Springs will cease to be one-well field this week. There are half dozen or more wells drilling on the cement, and will be going into oil sand. The Standard, General Trolleum and the Union will bring wells that will show what Santa Fe Springs has in store.
The Amalgamated's Deluge No. at 3900 feet is showing up strong and should be one of the big producers of the field. Butterworth No. is close to 4000 feet and will probably have to go five or six hundred feet deeper.
Both the Pullerton and Central have set the ten inch casing. The Flerton set at Bermudex No. 1 at 350 and the Central set the pipe on Tank Farm well at 3400. Neither these wells have had any showing consequence as yet.
The General Petroleum is making a test of its Springs 1 for a gass Drill to 2990 the well showed strong tendency to be a heavy gassed A big Trumble trap has been installed, the casing anchored in concrete and the heaviest of connections thrust through the General Petroleum should have no difficulty in bringing shewell in and keeping it under control.
Attention is turning to the Nevada Ventura. Drilled successfully to 322 feet where the ten inch was set to cement is ready to drill out and ahead. The Nevada-Ventura has made any "fuss" or "hooah" about its work. Drilling has gone on with out any mishaps and now the company is in position to prove up a lot of new territory. Drilling will watched closely, as all the proper adjoining the Nevada's big acres has been taken up.
The Shell Company's Goal No. at 3650 had enough of a showing make the well interesting. Drilling going ahead rapidly and something can be expected to happen here more any day now.
Probably the best looking well is the field is the Standard Oil Company's Helper No. 1. Down 3670 feet the cement was drilled out at 365 and the showing of oil and gas so heavy that it was not advisable ball down. A liner was used

Teams have the right of way, and automobiles shall be backed or otherwise handled as may be necessary so as to enable formed by the rush of gas and steam coming from the flaming well. It was further explained that the cloud remained in place because of the fact that the great column of fire heated an invisible dome above the well. This dome in turn was wailed in by cold air. The cold air naturally being heavier was the means by which the cloud was held stationary.
Thus it is not hard to imagine a mighty, but unseen struggle again going on in that age-old battle between heat and cold.
Some idea of the intensity of the heat from the fire may be gained by the fact that a bungalow situated approximately three blocks from the scene of the ignited well had to be kept continually soaked, and finally when the water supply gave out, dried up and burned to a cinder in a very few hours.
The Laguna Beach Oil Assn's No. now at 2600 feet is drilling in a black shale, and some showings of oil and gas are claimed at this depth.
The Southern California Oil Company drilled out the cement at Sanerson No. 1 at 3243 and ran into heavy gas pressure. This well is located between the Montebello and Whittier fields.
RUSSIANS SETTLE IN CANADA

Teams have the right of way, and automobiles shall be backed or otherwise handled as may be necessary so as to enable teams to pass with safety. In no case shall automobiles pass animals on the road at a speed greater than 8 miles per hour.
15. OVERTAKING VEHICLES — Any vehicle traveling slowly upon any of the park roads shall, when overtaken by a faster moving motor vehicle and upon suitable signal from such vehicle, give way to the right, in case of motor-driven vehicles, and to the inside, or bank side of the road in case of horse-driven vehicles, allowing the overtaking vehicle reasonably free passage, provided the overtaking vehicle does not exceed the speed limits specified for the road in question. When automobiles going in opposite directions meet on a grade, the ascending machine has right of way and the descending machine shall be backed or otherwise handled as may be necessary to enable the ascending machine to pass with safety.

EXPLAINS PROCESS
The forward movement in tires is shown by the Hydro Toron, handled by the Nu-Way Tire Co., 327 So. Los Angeles street. Early in 1919 the first tire of this make was built. During the first month the average daily production was 25 tires. Today almost 2200 tires are built each working day. This increase has been effected during the most trying period in the tire industry.
The unusual success of the Hydro Toron tires has been brought about by advanced principles of tire construction. Perhaps the most interesting feature of this new tire is the internal hydraulic process of curing. By the use of internal pressure all chances of defective or so-called second grade tires has been eliminated in this curing. Another feature is the use of Toron "no-rot" fabric. This chemical treatment of the tire carcass prevents oxidation, increases the holding powers between the various layers by 50 per cent, in addition to preventing water seepage through tread cuts and consequent rot.
The makers of Hydro Toron tires are backing their product with a 10,000-mile guarantee against stone bruise, rim cut and blowout. Such a guarantee heretofore has been unheard of and is meeting with a hearty response on the part of car owners in Anaheim and vicinity.
REALTY COMMISSION OF $5226 SOUGH
Commission of $5,226 is demanded by the Elliott-Anderson Realty Company and enforcement of an agreement with $30 per day or $1,000 by John Knutzen in such brought against Mrs. Martha Finney of Long Beach, who is legged to have refused to sell orange grove of 54 acres near Anheim after agreeing to do so.
The suits have been filed in Superior Court by Attorneys J. Hemmi and Tipton & Callor and declare that the agreement was made on Feb. 20 of this year. Knutzen paid down $1,000 on the agreement, it was declared, and Mrs. Finney's agent, Attorney C. Dutton, had approved securities offered as part of the purchase price and arranged terms for payment of the rest of the price fixed.
Suddenly, however, Knutzen was notified that a better offer had been received and the deal was called off.
