ORANGES EXPECTED
TO CONTINUE CLIMB
Commenting on the steady advance of the orange market, Charles Eygabroad, Anaheim director of the Calif. Fruit Exchange, predicted the upward movement would continue.
"There are only about 4000 cars of navels to move," says Eygabroad. "Last week 600 cars moved. The weekly shipments will not be so large from now on. The eastern market is cleaned up and 75 per cent of the Florida crop has gone."
Valencias will start to move April 1. In fact, they will pass the test now.
DUNTON ACQUIRES
AMALIE AGENCY
George Dunton has acquired the exclusive distribution in No. Orange-co. for Amalie 100 per cent. Pure Pennsylvania oils and greases. He will supply the grade with oils and greases for all grades of cars.
Carlot shipments will be made via water from New York to San Pedro and by truck to Anaheim.
GAS PRODUCE PARTS
All the parts of a new gas producer furnishing gas enough to yield 75 horsepower are cast in one piece.
GEORGE PULS BUYS
HEINEMAN TRACT
Eygabroad & Fisher report the sale of five acres of valencias in the Heineman sub-division to George Puls.
H. R. Hunter, who recently purchased 2 1-2 acres at the sub-division, is preparing to build a home. Construction materials are now on the ground.
STUDY PROBLEM OF
SKEWED BRIDGE ARCH
Methods of calculating the stresses and porportioning the size of skewed concrete-arch bridges which have been considered good practice in the past may be incorrect and result in the collapse of the structure, according to engineers of the bureau of public roads of the U.S. Dept. of Agr.
A skew bridge is one in which the center line of the bridge is not perpendicular with the abutment on which the bridge rests, and is used when a bridge crosses a stream or railway track diagonally. The bureau is jointly responsible with the several state highway departments for the correctness of the design of all structures on federal-aid roads, and for this reason the problem is being carefully studied.

VEGETABLES SYMBOLIZED IN MARIONETTE PLAY
Pupils of the John Swett school in San Francisco enjoyed the novel entertainment of a trip through vegetable land as played on a miniature stage by means of marionettes made of vegetables. The play was produced with the idea of popularizing the foods with the little tots.

DENVER, Mar. 2.—Rare specimens of leaf, fern and insect fossils have been unearthed in the Leyden mine near Denver by Walter Rogers, a junior in East Denver high school, who announces his intention of presenting his collection to the Colorado Museum of Natural History at City park and the state museum at the capital.
Rogers, who is the son of William F. Rogers, assistant cashier of the First National bank, and secretary-treasurer of the Leyden mine, found his first specimen in the mine—a part of a petrified tree trunk, reputed to be millions of years old. Since then he has found four more perfect specimens of the gigantic trees of the cretaceous period in the Laramine epoch of the Mexic o era. Only one other specimen of this sort of tree is in existence, and it is in the possession of the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Rogers declares.

FILM STAR WHO WON'T BE INTERVIEWED
LONDON, Mar. 3.—Lady Diana Cooper, the actress daughter of the duke of Rutland, besides starting a fashion for the English nobility by her success in a new color film, has set a new fashion for film actresses in general.
She refuses to be interviewed.
Not that any one expects for a minute that many film actresses will follow the idea. But Lady Diana, who every day now is being sought by newspaper men hopelessly attempting to interview her has bundled off to the country looking not for publicity, but seclusion.
Felix Orman, assistant to Stuart Blackton, the producer, said that Lady Diana was very serious about her work.
"She begged for a copy of the scenario before I could get it ready," he said, "then she studied oil paintings of the 17th century, in which the plot is laid in order to learn the fashion of the times. When she found she was working with an all-star cast she was a little nervous for a time, but soon got over it."
Lady Diana is about to enter another color picture to be produced by Mr. Blackton. Her friends expect that she will appear to even better advantage in it.
NEW METHOD FOR STAR GAZING
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Mar. 3.—By the use of the spectra instead of the parallax method, hundreds of stars, the positions of which still are not geometrically known, are being determined by Harvard University astronomers. The university has 300-900 photographs of stars taken in the last 20 years as an aid in applying the new method.

LITTLE DAMAGED FRUIT GETS EAST
If frost-bitten fruit has managed to get out of the state and be seized by federal agents in the east, it is very much the exception, said the manager of a prominent local association here today, commenting upon the published statement of Al Woodill and F. H. Speich, Riverside growers, that oranges of theirs had been seized. Such shipments are due to the special leniency of deputy horticultural commissioners in areas badly affected, said the local manager.
Plans to prevent such seizures and also to enact new laws were idid at Riverside last night, according to the published report, with G. H. Hecke, head of the state department of agriculture and F. H. Reed, head of the state bureau of standardization, present.
Telegrams already have been sent to Congressman Philip D. Swing and other California legislators in Washington. There is a conflict between the federal bureaus of marketing and crop estimates and chemistry, it was declared.
New fruit shipment laws will be
FARM BUREAUS ASK EDISON CO. PROBE
LOS ANGELES, Mar. 3.—A thorough investigation of the business of the So., Calif. Edison Co., is demanded of the railroad commission by Judge F. S. Brittain, attorney for the Federated Farm Bureau. The company's status is being gone into by southern municipalities and other corporations with the view of obtaining lower rates. Brittain charges big safari increases were made and declares certain operating expense item have jumped 30 to 50 per cent. "We expect to show that the figures for 1924 business and the estimates for 1923 are bloated," said Brittain. Commissioner Benedict said the commission wished to issue the order for new rates to make them effective not later than May 1.
