SHOOT AT DOUGLAS
SARLES AND HEARNE BACK AT PRACTICE
Roseoe Sarles and Eddie Hearne are the first two drivers to grace the boards of the Los Angeles Speedway for practice since the race last Sunday which was called in the 93rd lap because of rain.
Both Sarles and Hearne spent the major portion of yesterday trying out their speed wagons after having made several minor adjustments. Getting more speed is the end that all of the drivers are now working for, since Pietro Bordino clearly demonstrated that his little First is about the fastest car that has ever appeared hereabouts.
Every entrant in next Sunday's 250-mile jaunt has been doing considerable work on his racer with the possible exception of Tommy Milton. "Safety first," is Tommy's motto. He is satisfied with the showing that the car made against a field composed of the fastest cars in the world. Milton, to use the racing-vernacular, has placed the "blankets" over his car and not until the race starts will he either touch the wheel or appear at the track for practice.
Milton's racer has plenty of speed. This was proven when whirled around the Beverly Hills saucer for 25 miles at 113 miles per hour, thus establishing a new world's mark for this distance. From start to finish Milton led the field. Several times during the 93 laps, though it appeared that Bordino would pass the winner of the National Racing title for 1921, and who also has been dubbed the "world's speed king."
Jimmy Murphy and Pietro Bordino have been battling with the problem of finding out just what caused them.

SHOOT AT DOUGLAS RANCH SUNDAY A. M.
Sunday, March 5, at Douglas ranch about three miles southeast of Anaheim a regular semi-monthly shoot will be held from 9 to 12 a.m.
There is no charge made for shooting and a shooter can bring his own shells or can secure them at the grounds if he so wishes. The blue rocks will cost him not over 1½ cents each so that for very little expense anyone who is interested in clay birds and a scatter gun can have a very pleasant morning's sport.
At the last shoot about 20 were present and a very pleasant time was enjoyed.
At Sunday's shoot Mr. Kaufman, spot light manufacturer of Santa Ana, will give a vanity case to the woman shooter making the best score.
All shooters who are interested are invited to be there and meet the bunch and enjoy a good time.
In case of rain the shoot will be postponed one week.
Jimmy Murphy and Pietro Bordino have been battling with the problem of finding out just what caused them to make seven tire changes. It has been reported that Italy's premier racing demon has torn his car to pieces, while Murphy and his coterie of helpers have been scratching their heads figuring out what was the trouble with Jimmy's right front wheel. Both Murphy and Bordino are expected out at the track today and tomorrow.
The 50,000 or more spectators who attended last Sunday's scary affair got the thrill of their lives when Bordino cut a few wierd capers on the west turn. A bad skid and side slip caused the Italian's mount to alldown the track into the mud and then to shoot up the bank again. Expert handling of the wheel averted a bad accident. This feat alone assured the spectators and the other drivers that Bordino is a past master at the wheel.

BATTERY SUNDAY
When Anaheim Elks clash here next Sunday with Alexander Giants the locals will have to face the same high-power battery that proved their Waterloo last October. Johnny Baugh, athletic phenom of Pomona college where he graduated, will be on the mound and Pullen will be behind the bat.
This report came to Manager Billy Knott of the Anaheim team today. Baugh held the locals to four hits in that fateful game played just before the winning of the Elks state championship last fall. The score was 5 to 0, the smoked Irishmen rapping out 11 hits.
Manager Knott stated today that if local fans displayed their appreciation for the kind of fast ball being put up by the Alexander Giants, a three game series will be arranged. He will make his decision when he sees what kind of a crowd is out Sunday.

84 ENJOY HI-Y FEED LAST NIGHT
Last night the fellows of the Anaheim Hi-Y club invited in the fellows of the other Hi-Y clubs of the county for their second get together of the school year. There were 84 fellows and leaders present representing five different schools.
Following the dinner during which several old camp songs were sung, Cliff. Elliott, president of the Anaheim club, acting as chairman of the evening, welcomed the fellows to Anaheim. He then called on Mr. Chessum, who introduced Mr. Roberts as the speaker of the evening.
Mr. Roberts is the senior secretary of the County Work department, of the international committee of the Y. M. C. A. and is out here, just completing a visit to various state conventions in the west, having been one of the speakers at the State Convention held last week in San Francisco. He challenged the fellows to stand for those principles for which the Hi-Y stands in order that they might be prepared for the huge task which confronts the men of America today, and which for the most part will remain to be solved by their generation. The leaders of tomorrow are in the high schools of today, and their job will require more real HE men than any time yet in history. He brought the fellows a vision of the boys of the world and impressed them all with the high standards toward which they were striving. The clubs represented were from Santa Ana, Garden Grove, Orange, Fullerton, and Anaheim.
