HEADLIGHT TESTING STATIONS WILL BE ESTABLISHED BY THE C. A. T. A.
During the past few months police of many cities of the State have conducted raids on motorist in an effort to eliminate the evil of glaring headlights.
Thousands of motor car drivers have been forced to report to the police officers the next day, and all were told to have their headlights properly adjusted before they took their cars on the highways at night.
The greatest trouble is the lack of knowledge on the part of the motorist, the police, judges, garage men, motor car dealers, etc., of proper headlight adjustments and how to make such adjustments stay put.
Realizing the necessity of protecting the motoring public, providing proper places where headlight adjustments may be made, the California Automobile Trade Association will soon establish official testing stations throughout the state.
Certificates are to be issued by all Official Headlight Testing Stations and will bear the well-known Wheel and Radiator seal of the California Automobile Trade Association. On the back of the certificate will be a note to the motorist from the State Motor Vehicle Department, to the effect that the department recognizes such certificates as evidence that the headlights on that car has been properly adjusted on the date mentioned to comply with all legal requirements. The certificate will not however, absolve the motorist from keeping his headlights in proper adjustments thereafter.
All official Testing Stations will be carefully selected, and the men who actually do the work, will be educated by illuminating engineers before being allowed to make any headlight adjustments. Under this plan the motorist will receive an intelligent service at all times by uniformly equipped stations and without fear of having inexperienced mechanics picked up around the shop experimenting with his lights.
L. E. Voyer and J. T. Templeton, who have studied the light problem for years, will educate the Garage men in the proper method of adjusting headlights. These men have invented headlight adjusting apparatus for use in this work, and have perfected a plan of service that is similar service, will be safe and more comfortable for all.
The California Automobile Trade Association is composed of 3500 men in the motor car trade throng the State of California. No one will be allowed to test headlights and issue certificates, however, unless he fulfills the requirements of the Association Manager, Robert W. Martland, who will have charge of the testing plan. In this way only authorized testing stations will issue certificates, which will protect the motorist from having his headlights tampered with by unskilled workers and one operating without official authority.
Police Officers will recognize the official certificates issued by the stations as indicating that the driver has used his best efforts to comply with requirements; but in the event of accident or wilful violation of the glare provisions, the certificate will not protect the motorist from arrest. In most cases when a motorist is stopped and his headlights are out of fix, if he is in a position to show an official certificate, the officer will send him to the nearest station to have them righted.
The whole plan is primarily for protection and safety of the motorizing public, and every effort will be made not only to eliminate glaring headlights, which have caused numerous fatal accidents within the last few months, but to give the driver a vastly improved illumination.
ANAHEIM TIRE CO.
HAS ABLE FORCE
With a force of men none of whom had less than 15 years' experience in the tire business, the Anaheim Tire Sales Company has opened offices at 129 North Los Angeles street, H. E. McGillivray, for years representative of the Osler-Racine Rubber Company, of Los Angeles, and with an experience of 16 years back of him, is the proprietor, and Louis Heffner manager of the sales department.
The company has the exclusive agency in Anaheim and vicinity for the Autocrat cord and fabric inner tube tire.
Despite the most severe such as a greatly increased working force and load it was impossible to demand for several improved type of seals.

The average driver does not seem to realize that when his headlights are properly adjusted he will obtain better illumination on the road to drive by. On the other hand, many motorists feel that by complying with the law they will be required to sacrifice their own light. This is an erroneous impression, and night driving. It is expected by virtue of

NEW CLOSED CAR PLANT FINISHED
A definite expectation of an unusually heavy demand for the sedan and coupe throughout the year is indicated by Dodge Brothers recent completion of an immense new closed body plant. The production capacity is said to have been practically doubled and dealers are being assured that the factory will do its utmost to keep pace with the usual rush of spring and summer orders.
Despite the most strenuous efforts, such as a greatly enlarged working force and long night shifts, it was impossible to catch up with the demand for several months after the improved type of sedan and coupe
TIRE "ACCIDENTS" TOO NUMEROUS
Every tire ought to hold until by actual wear it gives out. This appears to be the opinion of the Nu-Way Tire Company, whose announcements regarding a new method of preserving used tires has excited much interest here.
Tires are re-rubered in time and so-called accidents prevented—that is the main secret of this concern's success.
The company also has the agency for the Hydro-Toron tire, said to be the only one with a guaranteed 10-000 mileage against stone or rim damage and blowouts.
HEEDLESSNESS" ACCIDENT CAUSE
A check on the general run of automobile accidents as kept by the safety bureau of the Automobile Club of Southern California reveals the fact that the question of the "right way" is the greatest menace to the safety of the motoring public.
Who has the right or way? Representatives of the Auto Club claim that carelessness in solving this apparent conundrum is responsible for more accidents on Southern California highways and streets than any other factor in road rules.
Out of 760 accidents checked and recorded, 203 were found to be trace-
and coupe throughout the year is indicated by Dodge Brothers recent completion of an immense new closed body plant. The production capacity is said to have been practically doubled and dealers are being assured that the factory will do its utmost to keep pace with the usual rush of spring and summer orders.
Despite the most strenuous efforts, such as a greatly enlarged working force and long night shifts, it was impossible to catch up with the demand for several months after the improved type of sedan and coupe made their appearance last fall. From this erthustastic reception of the improved cars it was evident that much greater facilities would be required, with the natural result that the new closed body plant was hurried to completion in ample time to meet the combined emergency brought about by spring and a sharp price reduction.
With the straight sweeping body lines, disc wheels and custom windows in the improved sedan, Dodge Brothers seem to have considered the motorist's every desire in design and in comfort features. Clearly chiseled body lines, which flow squarely backward from the cowl, strike the observer with their simple beauty. The windows are square cut in design and further enhance the straight, graceful silhouette of the body. Considerably lower, the whole ensemble in its outward appearance immediately impresses one with its dignity and harmony of design.
The disc wheels are done in black enamel with cream stripe and hide from view the springs and other underneath parts. The disc wheels may be removed with facility and are easily cleaned. The brilliant lustre of the sedan's exterior finish is familiar to all owners of Dodge Brothers motor cars.
In the interior appointments, the sedan leaves little to be desired. Delicately striped-mohair velvet is used in upholstering the wide, commodious rear seat. In front is a deep, wide, solid seat with rounded sides, also trimmed in the striped material. The four doors, which permit easy entrance and exit from any part of the sedan, are upholstered with plain mohair velvet in a soft fawn-gray. Combined with the heavily nickelized handles by which the windows are easily raised or lowered, this adds a richness of tone which can hardly be adequately described.
The windows in the doors and body are carved with natural black walnut red or polished plate glass. The body of the car is equipped with Yale locks, affording additional protection against theft and insuring the safekeeping of bundles and other articles when shopping. Handy side pockets, arm rests and windshield cleaner are other conveniences of the improved Dodge Brothers sedan.
Other notable refinements are weather strips inside the doors, as an extra protection in unpleasant weather, anti-rattlers on the windows and a body heater connected with Way Tire Company, whose announcements regarding a new method of preserving used tires has excited much interest here.

MAXWELL, CHALMERS CAR SALES MOUNT
Several additional sales of Maxwell, Chalmers and other cars are announced by Turton & Lumsdon, to say nothing about orders for three of the former make and two of the latter which the firm cannot as yet fulfill.
Fred Mang of Ball-road, bought a 1922 Chalmers touring car before it got on the floor here from Los Angeles. Joseph W. Beatty of Anaheim, purchased a Maxwell touring as soon as it arrived in the city Saturday. D. Stull of Fullerton, followed the example of his brother, Louis R. Stull, and bought a Maxwell touring car.
F. W. Nevares of Fullerton, purchased a used Ford touring car.
The firm advises its patrons that there is no better time than right now to purchase used cars. Prices will not come down, since the rates on new cars have struck bottom. Orders for both used and new cars should be given as much in advance of the date of delivery desired as possible.
Another car load of Maxwells is due any day now. The cars are scheduled to arrive this week. Several new Chalmers cars also have been ordered, but the demand has for some time exceeded the supply.
The San Francisco and Oakland shows, like those of New York and Chicago, gave the new series Maxwells a splendid reception. The new Maxwell has created a sensation wherever it has been seen, say leading agents. Simplicity, accessibility and economy are the striking features in the four-cylinder L-head type motor, the cylinders and upper half half of the crank case are cast en bloc and the cylinder head is easily removed, affording ready access to the combustion chambers and valves. And there are various other points of superiority which the local agents will be glad to detail.

Gorgonia Pass. In the latter pass, a spot was visited just below Banning. Of course there is an outlet through the Big Bear region, but all of these roads are pretty well under control, so that a station established somewhere between the Cushenberry Grade and Baldwin Lake would effectually cover the route out of this district on the desert side.
In the south, the Torrey Pines Grade and the Poway Grade cover the coast route and the inland route to San Diego.
The outlying stations for the two aforementioned sections might fall naturally at Tia Juana, where at the recent time, the Auto Club maintains a service station for checking stolen cars, Camp, Calexico, Yuma, Blythe, Vidal, which is just east of Blythe Junction on the Parker Road and at Needles. In this region north of Needles, over the Arrowhead Traffic points of observation could be maintained through the local authorities, as travel is not so thick in these parts. This also applies to the roads running through Death Valley Junction, Boundary Canyon, and Oasis on the Goldfield road from Independence.
FORDS, FORDSONS
SELLING FASTER
With an average of better than a machine per day sold so far in February, George Dunton, local agent for the Ford car and Fordson tractor, sees no falling off in the extraordinary demand of the last few months. Of the total of 28 machines, 22 were cars and six tractors.
H. F. Dierker of East North street now has a Ford sedan and runabout a one-ton truck and four Fordson tractors, which he uses on his several ranches. He has just finished developing a 40-acre piece of land off South Palm street with tractors, leveling and grading.
The uses and possibilities of the tractor are steadily boosting its popularity. One of the biggest lumber concerns in the Southwest has a fleet of tractors at work in its 60-acre yard at Wilmington, hauling wagons loaded with lumber, and now has one of the heavy tractors busy. The latter pulls or pushes a load of 5,000 feet of lumber. It is equipped with hard rubber tires.
A contractor has found that the Fordson tractor pulls a loaded Frenoo scraper without difficulty, in grading roads carrying 1-5 to ¼ of a cubic yard at one time up a slight grade in intermediate gear returning on high gear.
Testimonials continue to come in from all sorts of firms and individuals regarding the versatile powers of the tractor.
Among the uses to which the tractor is being put are concrete mixing, hoisting, excavating, general street and road work, hauling on rails when converted to an individual locomotive, and in brick yards, on golf club grounds and in the oil fields.

What Makes a Tire Economical?
TWO THINGS determine whether or not the tire you buy is an economical tire.
ONE is the amount of value built into that tire by its maker.
THE OTHER is the amount of mileage taken out by you.
