SEAL BEACH WELL BEGINS DRILLING With Oil Operators The Seal Beach Oil Co. has spudded in and actual drilling is now underway. Some 200 feet of hole will be made with cable tools, the conductor set, and then the rotary will be installed. Henry R. Dabney has a rig up and is doing some rigging-up work. The two wells will prove a considerable part of Seal Beach for a field. The Standard Oil Company is not drilling a well at Talbert as reported a few days ago. The Talbert well is a community lease at Huntington Beach. The announcement of Talbert Community was taken that the well was to be located at Talbert several miles east of Huntington Beach. There is little chance of a well being drilled at Talbert after the failure of the Westminster well to find oil. The Amalgamated Oil Company has just completed a well in the so-called lower zone at Huntington Beach. Fowler No. 3 finished at 3903 feet, came in a 150 barrel well. The Amalgamated well proves again the mistake that is being made in drilling well so close together at Huntington Beach. Town lot drilling and the placing of wells on holdings less than three acres is not proving profitable. The Argonaut Oil Company with a six hundred barrel well on the Turley property is getting up higher in the Huntington Beach production list. Turley No. 2 was completed at 3500 feet and starts off like a good producer. Huntington Beach's record high gravity well now belongs to the Petroleum Midway. Vollmer-Meyer No. 1 recently completed at 3450 is making oil testing 28.3 gravity. The next well in the field is the Standard Oil Company's B-2 producing 28.2 gravity oil at 4250 feet. The Petroleum Midway well is flowing by heads and making 200 barrels. The Standard well is making about 450 barrels. BABY, 3 WEEKS OLD, HAS TOOTH PULLED NEW YORK, Feb. 23.—A "50-50" weeks old, has had a tooth removed at a London dental hospital. CONTESTS ACTION ON MARRIAGE PACT Denial that Louis Shulte married her under threats and duress and the counter assertion that, instead, he begged her to marry him to save him from prosecution for a crime he had committed against her, were contained today in Consuela Shulte's answer in the superior court to a suit brought by Shulte, who seeks release from an agreement to support her and her child. Louis Shulte was awaiting trial in San Bernardino county on a statutory charge involving her, Mrs. Shulte declares, He and his mother, Maria G. Shulte, who is also plaintiff with her son in the action here, both begged her to marry him. She did so; merely to give her unborn child a name, and on the understanding that she would never recognize him as her husband nor live with him, she asserts. The Shultes married and separated on the same day. At that time Shulte and his mother signed an agreement to provide for the support of Mrs. Shulte and the child, which was born four months later. If their suit, recently filed here, Shulte and his mother ask that the agreement be cancelled. They charged that it was executed under threats and duress. In addition, they claimed that Consuela Shulte was not rearering the child properly and was unfit to have its custody. This latter charge is also denied by the wife. TO BUILD SIX PLANES An Australian government commission has contracted for the construction of six airplanes from Australian materials for training purposes. TO DEVELOP IRON ORE Modern mining methods have made feasible the development of deposits of iron ore in Switzerland that were abandoned more than 40 years ago. It is the general opinion now that if oil is found in commercial quantity it will be necessary to go deep to get it. The Jergins well now on the beam and doing about 200 barrels seems to be on the edge of the sands between 3 and 4 thousand feet. Dabney No. 1 was drilled to 3788 feet and did not get as much as a showing. Drilling was suspended two months ago. The Fischer Oil Company is now at 3900 feet and have no showings that are encouraging enough to warrant continuing. In all probability the Fischer will quit drilling soon. On a line a little southeast of the Dabney and Fischer and Dabney wells W. M. Keck drilled the "Elbo" to almost 3800 and got nothing. E. J. Miley went to 3918 and found very little that would warrant an oil well. Miley however intends to go ahead and make a deep test well at Updale No. 1 and will go to 5000 feet before abandoning. Tom O'Donnell and associates have completed arrangements for extensive development work on Signal Hill. The new company is to be known as the Western Star Oil Company. Western Star now drilling at 2000 feet has already encountered showings that would indicate a big well at a comparative shallow depth. The Western Star has a program calling for six wells. Tom Lloyd has been appointed field superintendent. The heavy showing of gas at 1294 in the Marine Oil Producing Company's first well on the Hill is attracting attention. The gas showing is the strongest and heaviest for the depth of any well in the field. On drilling out the cement set in the 12½ inch at 1294 a gas pressure developed that was so strong that it was not advisable to bail the hole dry in making the water test. The Mining Bureau has passed on the shut off and drilling has resumed. This well will have to be handled with a lot of care to prevent a big THE CHURCHES SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH NOTES Rev. The heavy showing of gas at 1294 in the Marine Oil Producing Company's first well on the Hill is attracting attention. The gas showing is the strongest and heaviest for the depth of any well in the field. On drilling out the cement set in the 12½ inch at 1294 a gas pressure developed that was so strong that it was not advisable to ball the hole dry in making the water test. The Mining Bureau has passed on the shut off and drilling has resumed. This well will have to be handled with a lot of care to prevent a big blow out, and wreck similar to the Shells Martin and Ness wells. Sandburg Petroleum stockholders can be expecting dividends soon. John Sandburg has had his row of troubles, but he has succeeded in putting No. 1 at Signal Hill on production. No. 1 is producing steadily now at 300 bbls. The Sandburg Petroleum Company has just secured a valuable lease in the Santa Maria field that promises to be a big booster for the young oil company. The property secured lies near the Union Oil Company's Hartnell lease and is considered extremely good. The Sandbury Company are making arrangements to start development on the new property. The Santa Maria acquisition and the Willmington property along with its Signal Hill holdings gives the Sandbury Petroleum a desirable acreage. No one can have health who eats too much.
