I.—Starting revelations to the effect that many American girls are held captive in the underworld in Mexico were reported to have been made to the police and juvenile officers by Irene Arvizu, 15, 2521 East Fourth street, after she was picked up today in a dazed condition in Sunset boulevard. That the girl captives long to escape from their gilded cages but are blocked at every turn by their ever-vilent guards, was a statement attributed to the Arvizu girl who was said to have told officers that she by a bit of good fortune fled with a girl companion. BULGARIAN KING TO WED PARIS, Feb. I.—The Bulgarian premier will arrange the wedding between King Boris of Bulgaria and Princess Yolanda, it was believed today. Village Gossip Thirteen years ago, while working in Santa Ana as a barber, C. L. Coulson, now proprietor of the Electric hatchery at Santa Ana, became the owner of a broody bantam hen and four eggs. Today his place on West Nineteenth-st is dotted with thousands of pure-bred chickens and his electric hatchery is said to be one of the largest and most modern So. Calif. In his electric hatchery Coulson brings all his own chicks into the world for the market. He handles only White Leghorns, Anconas, Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds. He is equipped to handle 1,000 hens has brooders for 6,000 chicks and has a hatching capacity of 20,000 eggs. The sale of mature chickens is also an important feature of the business. The best birds from each hatching are kept for the mature flock and in this manner Coulson keeps about one thousand hens and roosters, from which it is possible to select prize stock. REVEAL VAGRANT AS CONVICTED BURGLAR Roberto Diaz, alias Rloz, now serving a 30-day sentence in the county jail on a vagrancy charge, had today been exposed as a masquerader. His real identity, revealed to Sheriff C. E. Jackson by the state bureau of identification and investigation, is Joaquin Castanado, sentenced to San Quentin from San Bernardino for burglary and violator of parole. Castanado, or Diaz, was arrested by Santa Ana police Jan. 13, and was sentenced to jail by City Recorder W. F. Heathman. His finger prints were sent to the state bureau, which identified him as the Castanado who escaped from a prison road camp in San Bernardino county Dec. 28, two weeks after he had been convicted by a jury of second degree burglary. The court had sentenced Castanado to a term of from one to 14 years and then paroled him on the condition that he work in the road camp for one year. Castanado is said to have been arrested on burglary charges there several times before being convicted. He will be turned over to Sheriff W. A. Shay of San Bernardino county, on the expiration of his vagrancy sentence here Feb. 5. POLICE CHIEF QUITS TO WRITE SCENARIO CLEVELAND, Jan. 31. — Cleveland's "best police officer" has quit the force. Inspector John Rowlands, who the records show was never late a single day, retired from the department after 29 years' efficient service. He's left it, folks say, because he thought he would be going out anyway shortly after the new administration took power. Twenty-seven of Rowland's 22 years as a policeman were spent "on the street," a patrolman, sergeant, lieutenant and captain. Rowlands was the undoing of the men who committed the famous "Santa Claus" murders in 1902. In 1913 he wrote a story on it for a local paper. Now he's getting up a movie scenario on the crime and the man responsible for it. The best birds from each hatching are kept for the mature flock and in this manner Coulson keeps about one thousand hens and roosters, from which it is possible to select prize stock. "Just now my business is a question of greater capacity," said Coulson today. "The business is growing more rapidly than I have room and equipment available." This case of a marvelous recovery of lost speech, brought to the attention of the Santa Ana police, is not credited to the healthful climate of California. The story was told by Tom Wilson, ticket agent for the Motor Transit company in Santa Ana, who was present at an auricular demonstration of the transformation. Some time yesterday a man came to Wilson's home. He presented a card which stated that he was deaf and had lost his speech. At the some time he offered for sale some trifling article. Later in the day Wilson was presiding at his ticket window in the stage office. In walked the deaf and dumb man. Apparently not recognizing Wilson he spread five silver dollars on the counter. "Gimme a five dollar bill for this, will you?" he asked in very clear, if not excellent English. An inventor has patented a device consisting of a pair of brushes which passed along a row of cotton plants, are expected to sweep boll weevils into pans containing an insecticide. CHANGE INCORPORATION LAW Articles of incorporation for organizations formed within this county are now filed at the state capitol instead of the county seat, under an amendment of the law adopted by the last legislature, which became operative within the last several months. Thus the old custom of filling articles at the courthouse in the home county, and having the facts concerning the new organization become known at once, has been changed so that details of capitalization headquarters, personnel, purpose and other items of information connected with the corporation do not reach the territory for a period of several weeks after filing. GOODCELL REVENUE COLLECTOR WASHINGTON, Jan. 31—Appointment of Rex B. Goodcell, of San Bernardino, as collector of internal revenue for Los Angeles, was announced today. Senators Shortridge and Johnson both recommended his being named.
