Wednesday, January 25, 1922 THE ORANGE LITTLE DAMAGE BY COLD AT CYPRESS CYPRESS, Jan. 25.—(Spl.) The cold wave has done little damage in this section so far. The orange trees are nipped but it is that the fruit is not damaged to any great extent. There is one or two young groves that is quite badly damaged, some few of the young trees will have to be replaced. The Standard Oil Co.'s preparation to drill on the Mitchell place southwest of Buena Park, has revived the oil fever in this section. The big well at Signal Hill was in plain view Saturday, and the Cypress land owners had a lovely time mind-picturing their own property being saturated with oil. The field man of the Mid-Way Petroleum Co. hinted that that company would like to have their lease back, but the land owners are through with that company. There is a report that the Lessors Oil Co. has changed hands and drilling operations are to commence in the very near future. A party of friends gave Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sally a surprise shower Saturday evening. The young couple received many useful tokens of friendship. At a late hour light refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Monroe of Hynes, spent Sunday with the Geo. B. Millers. Mrs. E. Praffer is ill with the prevailing epidemic, which the doctors claim is a mild flu. Those that have been ill with the malady claim it is not mild. Mrs. M. Sutherland is another victim of the mild flu. Her daughter Mrs. Hughes was first to fall for the unwelcome guest, then Mr. Sutherland, now Mrs. Sutherland. G. G. Priddy has just completed a land and income property transaction where by he becomes owner of a 57-acre ranch just south of Downey. The other property involved in the deal is Oklahoma property. Manuel Gurro who was recently badly hurt in an auto accident near Cypress is home from the hospital. He is progressing to recovery very Mrs. M. Sutherland is another victim of the mild flu. Millers. Mrs. Megan has about recovered from her recent illness. CLAIMS CONTRACT WHILE MINOR VOID Latest suggestion for youth: If you don't like your bargain, wait until you are 21 and then cancel it. That is what O. B. Davey, local automobile salesman, has decided to do, according to a civil action on file today in superior court here, with Davey as the plaintiff against Leslie P. Damewood and A. J. Garroway of the firm of Damewood and Garroway, Orange truck dealers. Davey bought a truck from Damewood and Chapman last June, before he had reached his 21st birthday. The price was $4500 for what Davey claims was supposed to be a five-ton Moreland truck. Davey declares he turned in a $1,700 G. M. C. truck as first payment and arranged to pay the balance at the rate of $200 a month. Subsequently he paid, he says $700 more. Also, he declares, he discovered later that the new truck had only a four-ton capacity. To add to his troubles Davey became in arrears on his payments and the dealers repossessed the truck, but decline to return to Davey the consideration he had paid on the purchase price, so he states. In the course of events, Davey celebrated his 21st birthday. He didn't like his bargain, for the reasons set forth. So, having attained his majority, he is now taking action as an adult to set aside by law the transaction performed while he was a minor. His suit for cancellation of agreement and return of the $2400 consideration he claims to have paid upon the Moreland truck was filed through Attorney Carl M. Helm, of Santa Ana.
