CALIFORNIA HONEY IS BIG ASSET TO STATE
California's contribution, during the year amounted to one-seventh of all the honey produced in the United States. This product of this state's bee hives was of the value of $4,000,000. This is an important industry and deserves the distinction of a "week," which has been proclaimed duly by Governor Stephens. February 6 to November 1 is to be observed as "California Honey Week." Californiaans who are not regular users of honey produced in this state will do well to make test of its quality. Honey is a delicious and healthful food product. It can be used in diverse ways by versatile cooks and housewives. Besides tasting so well, it looks good on the dining table.
The practice of devoting special periods in this state to expanding the consumption of California products is of good effect. It stimulates loyalty.

WATER POWER OF THE WORLD
Forty pct. of the developed water power of the world is in the U.S., where water wheels having a capacity of $9,243,000 horsepower have been installed, according to a recent statement of the U.S. Geological Survey. Dept. of the Interior. The leading states in developed water power are New York, with $1,300,000 horsepower, and California, with $1,111,000. These state totals compare favorably with those for some of the most progressive countries in water power development in Europe, where France leads with $1,400,000 horsepower, Norway has $1,350,000 horsepower, Sweden has $1,200,000 horsepower, and Switzerland has $1,070,000 horsepower.
The largest percentage of power has been developed in the New England states where the capacity of the water wheels installed is $1,381,000 horsepower and the estimated potential power at low water without storage is $868,000 horsepower. In the Pacific coast states—Washington, Oregon and California—the capacity of water wheels installed is $1,893,000 horsepower and the potential power at low water without storage is $1,5,500,000 horsepower.
The largest water power development in the world is at Niagara Falls, where the plants in operation have a capacity of $870,000 horsepower, or which $385,500 horsepower is on the U.S. side. The capacity of the plants at Niagara is being increased by $114,500 horsepower in the U.S. and $390,000 horsepower in Canada. Other large plants are one of $790,000 horsepower on the Mississippi at Keokuk. Iowa, from which power is transmitted to St. Louis, and two plants aggregating $268,500 horsepower on St. Maurice river in Cap.
