SURPRISE DINNER FOR DAUGHTER ON BIRTHDAY COMPLIMENTING her daughter, Mrs. C. H. Clark, with a surprise one o'clock chicken dinner Wednesday, Mrs. C. L. Allen, of Los Angeles, proved herself a charming hostess as well as a perfectly lovely mother, in so celebrating Mrs. Clark's birthday. The color motif was pink, and pink flowers graced the rooms. The dinner centerpiece was a handsome pink and white birthday cake, just like Mrs. Aller baked for her daughter when a little girl, with a few candles added, with embroidery and crocheting, the ladies passed the hours after dinner most enjoyably. The dinner list included close friends of the two ladies, Mrs. Doyle, of Santa Ana; Miss Gigney, Los Angeles; Mrs. Riordan, Los Angeles; Mrs. Eaton and little son, Iran; Mrs. Scott, of Pasadena; Mrs. Truzaw and little daughter, Mary Ellen; Mrs. E. L. Olmstead, and the honoree, Mrs. Clark, and the hostess, Mrs. Allen. ENTERTAINS WITH CARD PARTY IN FRIEND'S HOME With a combination of poinsettias and white spring flowers, as though winter were lingering in the lap of spring, the pretty home of Mrs. Hughes, In Fullerton, was decorated for the coming of a small company of ladies yesterday afternoon, Mrs. Richardson, of Buena Park, was hostess, assisted by Mrs. Hughes. After several rounds of five hundred, at which the ladies are all very clever, prizes were won by Mrs. Benningsdorf, first, and Mrs. Hughes, consolation. Hand painted china plates were given as awards for their skill. Hand painted daily cards also gave a pretty touch to the card tables of which there were three. Following games a two course luncheon was served from the card tables, around which were seated the Messames Black, Trippett, Dugas and Mock, Anaheim; Stone, Little, Benningsdorf, Lovejoy, Vareoe, Hughes, Reese, of Fullerton, and the hostess Mrs. Richardson, of Buena Park. Mrs. Brus had gathered pretty spring flowers and had placed them most artistically about the rooms. A dainty two course luncheon was served after the games. Those playing were the Messers and Messames L. Z. Kroeger, M. W. Martenet, A. L. Erickson, Leo Sheridan, F. Tausch, A. Nowotny, W. H. Houts, and the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Brus. MRS. The large fireplace was lighted and made a very cozy room for the girls to work in. Miss O'Rourke served a dainty luncheon to those present, who were the Misses Viola Elliott and Lillian Degryse, Mrs. R. E. PLACENTIA COUNTRY CLUB With Mrs. James Tuffree as hostess, the Placentia Country Club yesterday afternoon for the first time in the new year, Cards, as usual, was the amusement feature, with Mrs. Sidney Chapman winner of first and Mrs. Eric Lamhofer, consolation prizes. Playing were the Mesdames J. E. Scott, Herbert Sullivan, Thomas McFaulden, F. D. Miller, E. H. Robertson, Sidney Chapman, George Meyers, all of Placentia; J. W. Sollis and Eric Lamhofer, of Fullerton; and Harry Sears, George Dumamoor and Miss Nina McLellan, all of Anaheim. The evening was pleasantly spent in playing five hundred and this was followed with music and conversation. Prizes were won by Mrs. Vanstrum and Mr. Durkee for the firsts and Mr. Vanstrum and Mrs. Durkee the consolations. The color scheme was carefully laid out in green and white. CLARK TO ENTERTAIN Among the social affairs of the coming season to be given at the Elks' new club house is the one of Feb. 2, when Mrs. C. A. Clark will entertain and not Mrs. A. E. Clark, as was erroneously reported in last night's paper. MISSION STUDY AND TEA The Women's Foreign Missionary Society of the White Temple went to the home of Mrs. F. H. Goodale, on South Los Angeles street yesterday afternoon for a meeting of unusual interest. Thirty-six members were present, all of whom showed great interest in the missions of which they study from the regular mission study book, "The Kingdom and the Nations." Mrs.Wm. Wellman had charge of the study, and Mrs.Edinism and Mrs.Goodale also contributed to the lesson program, Luncheon and tea were served, during which the ladies enjoyed a short social session. MEETING OF HOWE BIBLE CLASS The men's class of the Christian Sunday school gathered at the church last evening and did their best to "compliment the cook" at the 6 o'clock dinner which the Ladies Aid had provided. The meeting was well attended and considerable routine business was acted. A Lookout committee was appointed, the duty of which will be to catch, try and punish all delinquents and truants of the class, therefore it is expected the next meeting will find every member in place bright and early with his face shining, his shoes tied and his disposition on the mend. C.E.EXECUTIVES MEET A meeting of the executives of the Christian Endeavor Society of the MUSIC SECTION MONDAY The Music section of the Anaheim Ebell will meet with Mrs. W. The selection of a book for special mission study at the weekly meetings will be reported soon.The C.E.is growing and becoming a very valuable organization for the young people of the church and Sunday school.
